MuggleNet news in other languages!
Because there are a huge number of non-English-speaking Harry Potter fans, we're excited to announce that MuggleNet's news will now be translated into five main languages of our visitors! Each day, a bilingual translator for Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Dutch will manually - that is, no vague computer-generated translations - translate each news post in order to accommodate the speakers of those languages.

At present, there are few posts translated, but our news in foreign languages can be seen at the links below:

- Spanish
- French
- German
- Italian
- Dutch

You can also reach our news in other languages via the flags above the news. Please note that we plan on adding additional languages shortly. Enjoy!

Big thanks to our coder Michael for his hard work on putting this system together.

Posted by mir_864 Mar 27th 2007

That's great!! Many people don't speak english...

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 27th 2007

Cool. Not that I need it, but it's good for the people who don't speak good English. Good for MuggleNet!

Posted by MichelleLynn Mar 27th 2007

thats pretty cool! i think i may start reading the french news to see if my french reading comprehension is as good as it used to be.

Posted by bwof Mar 27th 2007

Wow, what a brilliant idea! Maybe you could add languages from scandinavia?? Please :)?

Posted by MissingSirius Mar 27th 2007

That's awesome. Nice for mugglenet to do that. I don't need it, but now I can tell my french friend. lol.

Posted by normalac Mar 27th 2007

That is great! I doubt its gonna be news in my language but still.... Its great

Posted by shmcminn1 Mar 27th 2007

That's cool, but I'm just gunna stick with English :p

Posted by mir_864 Mar 27th 2007

Umm, spanish news are kind of weird, some don't make a lot of sense. I'm mexican, but you can understand them all right.

Posted by SirRobin Mar 27th 2007

That's great. The old translations were really a lot of garbled nonsense. It's so cool that they're putting in all that effort!

Posted by markus89 Mar 27th 2007

it's great! although i'm gonna stick to the english news posts i am glad there is a good German translation at last! i hope the spanish translation is good, because i want to practice my Spanish with it :)

Posted by harrys_wand Mar 27th 2007

hebrew transalation! please?

Posted by SilentBerserk Mar 27th 2007

I'm from Chile and I can tell you that the "spanish version" is AWFUL. Did you use some online translator to make that?. You need someone whose native language is spanish to correct everything. Otherwise, I'll stick to the english version. There are a lot of spanish sites to visit, you don't have to change! :o! Besides, it helps us to learn english :)

Posted by ellopoppet7hp Mar 27th 2007

ohhhh this is soooo cool!! although i speak english. this is sooo considerate of the rest of the world!!

Posted by dark_nymph Mar 27th 2007

Wow, that's really cool! English is my first language, but I know a little bit of Spanish and a tiny bit of French as well. This could be a chance for me to get some much-needed practice with foreign languages!

Posted by polkadots_7 Mar 27th 2007

It would be awesome if theres one in arabic..

Posted by felixfelicis1234 Mar 27th 2007

hey thats really cool. u guys are awesome. i love harry potter. i am writing a lot of short sentences. harry potter chat rooms are awesome. i hope that they add every language in the world. that is awesome. mugglnet...u should've done this earlier because now that book 7 is coming out, mugglnet probably won't be running in like 2 years, but i'll still be coming on to check it until i'm 50 because thats how much i love it. i love to write senseless drivel. oh well....that is awesome so, bye

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 27th 2007

cool i guess.. but i dont really care cause i speak english

Posted by Donnie Mar 27th 2007

That's great & don't hesitate if you ever need someone for french translations as I'm french & would love to help!

Posted by potterlovver814 Mar 27th 2007

Although I speak English, that's really cool! I kind of agree with felixfelicis1234 in the sense that the feature should've been added earlier! But I don't think that MuggleNet will close anytime soon. There are still the movies and Harry Potter is never going to die out soon.

Posted by Jacinthe Mar 27th 2007

The French translation is great, no spelling or grammar mistakes, but there are MANY annoying typos and the last "news" was March 20. It's a great idea and great feature indeed, but for now it's a bit crappy :\

Posted by Kievan Mar 27th 2007

That's really great of MuggleNet to do for the Non-English speaking fans, considering not all of us -do- speak English.

Posted by Yavanna Mar 27th 2007

Hi, that's really great. I'm german, but my english is pretty good I believe as I've been an exchnge student. If you want me I could help translate the news into german for you.

Posted by mischiefmanaged128 Mar 27th 2007

Cool! Maybe now, I can switch to French occasionally and reading this will help me stop failing!!!!

Posted by AnyaJH Mar 27th 2007

Hey, if you ever want to do a Danish version, I'm all for it!

Posted by gincarnated Mar 27th 2007

I don't know about anyone else but I don't speak American. Do you guys? In fact, I didn't know there was such a language :)

Posted by xilovegeorgex Mar 27th 2007

Why is it the American flag, and not the English. I agree with gincarnated, we speak ENGLISH. not American. >.>

Posted by magical Mar 27th 2007

i agree also what about australians, canadians and brits just coz we're in the commenwealth doesn't mean usa can be put high ;) je n'aime pas !!!!

Posted by roxielupin Mar 27th 2007

There are typos and spelling and grammar mistakes in the French version. Well it's not that bad, I don't want to make a fuss about it. However, there is one thing that annoys me a lot. In French, the names of the days of the week and of the months DON'T take capital letters. Also, there is a French translation for the word 'week-end' and unfortunately, it's not 'week-end'! It's 'fin de semaine'.

Posted by HeirOfRavenclaw Mar 27th 2007

Yay for Mugglenet! Now i can read Harry Potter news in Spanish instead of the stupid stuff i have to read in class!! although i'm only in my first year of Spanish and i know basically nothing, but its all good... Heart, Heir

Posted by rhayra Mar 27th 2007

Ok. That's great. Six languages, that's awesome. But can't you guys at least consider to also translate the site in Portuguese? I'm Brazilian, and I can speak and read English very well, but there are some things that I just don't understand and they happen to be important to understand the text sometimes... you can think that my language is almost the same as Spanish, but it's not. It's not the same as British English and American one, there are a lot of words and expressions that are really different, and I can say that surely, for my sister is doing a Spanish course. So, if you guys can translate it to Portuguese, it would be really good.

Posted by hpwiz812 Mar 27th 2007

HA! that's cool! Muchas Gracias, Mugglenet, por esta ayuda tan buena! ha, i know spanish....

Posted by Czechmetz Mar 27th 2007

Wow, that is really exciting! Thanks Michael!

Posted by Jupiterian Mar 27th 2007

Gracias! de Mexico! ! ! !

Posted by brightredbucket Mar 27th 2007

cool =]. Not that i need it but still =]

Posted by Ciaran Mar 27th 2007

Roxielupin, I've been doing French for over seven years, and usually say "le weekend". I know it can also be said as "le fin de semaine".

Posted by Clean0002 Mar 27th 2007

That is really great! I am glad mugglenet wants to include everyone like that. Harry Potter is universal which is why it is so great and I think it's great that mugglenet is making themselves universal aswell.

Posted by Edward88Italy Mar 27th 2007

I speak and understand english, but this is a good idea to make Mugglenet international.

Posted by moein Mar 27th 2007

what about Iranian users?:((

Posted by Doxybiter_DH_ Mar 27th 2007

How considerate! I'm Dutch, but I also speak English and frankly, all of the languages MuggleNet will translate their news posts to. Well, my Italian isn't too good, but reading never has been a problem. Anyway, I think this is a great idea ... the news just has to spread so that people who don't speak English as a second (or third.. or fourth...) language will visit this site regardless of the original language.

Posted by Meianh Mar 27th 2007

It wasn´t made by a mechanical translator?? I doubt it, at least the spanish version looks like it was, there are sentences that don´t make any sense, the words aren´t in the right order... I really don´t see any difference between this and a mechanical translator. If you really are using a person he or she tricked you and doesn´t really speak much Spanish so is using a web or something to translate the news, there´s no other explanation. I saw in the comments that there are a lot of us native Spanish speakers that can read in English, I´m sure anyone of us would gladly help you, at least I volunteer.

Posted by SCPGOH_ad24 Mar 27th 2007

awww thats so cool

Posted by roxielupin Mar 27th 2007

Well Ciaran, I'm from Québec and French is my first language. 'Week-end' is not a French word and its utilisation in French language is not approved. People from France use 'week-end' instead of 'fin de semaine' but it doesn't mean it's right. You can use 'week-end' when talking in the street, with your friends, but not on a serious website.

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 27th 2007

i dont care.. i speak english anyways

Posted by Jacinthe Mar 27th 2007

Ciaran, "week-end" in French is an anglicism. It's often said in France and other countries, but it's still a mistake. And it's not "le fin de semaine" but "la fin de semaine" ;) I think the point Roxielupin was trying to make was that the French version uses many expressions from France that may be confusing in other countries. It's not that bad, it's just that many errors like this could be easily avoided and they ARE annoying. But I guess it's not as bad as the Spanish version, like someone said before. Why aren't there a few people per languages in charge of the translation? Wouldn't it be easier since they could auto-correct themselves AND they would be able to translate more news a day?

Posted by cedarbluff Mar 27th 2007

that is great!!

Posted by harrypotterfan20202 Mar 27th 2007

will there be a hebrew trasalation?!?

Posted by Susan_Bones Mar 27th 2007

Posted by muggle_god Mar 27th 2007
