The Spanish translator says: "the spanish I grew up speaking was the one originally from Spain (it's unlike the general spanish most Mexicans, Peruvians, Chileans speak). I guess you can say the spanish they knew is less refined while mine is more technical." I'm not sure, but is anyone from Spain having a difficult time understanding it? It's hard to please both - but we're working on it. And, yes, the French translator is from Paris, and I learned French in Ireland - so it's probably a European thing to say "le weekend." But, I agree that "la fin de semaine" is more appropriate for a website. Thanks for the tips.

The Spanish version is obviously made using a computer translation software. That doesn't work, since Spanish has a lot of grammar aspects to take into account. You need a bilingual native Spanish speaker to to that translations. Otherwise, it won't work at all......

That's so cool. They're over a page behind, though... I hope they catch up so non-English speakers can get their news the same day it's reported in English. Japanese and Chinese should be GREAT fun to do.... O_O Haha, it would be funny and kinda cool if there was a Latin version. Even though I'd like to say this is an awesome idea that makes us, non-English speaking people feel more welcome here, I must say Spanish translation is kind of weird. Sentences don't make a lot of sense and the words used sometimes seem to be the first entry of a pocket dictionary that doesn't consider specific translations... I really think a native speaker should, if not translate them, have a look at the translated versions before making them available for all Spanish-speaking fans. Nevertheless, I must say you guys make yourselves more incredible each day. Thanks a lot!

Good idea MuggleNet! I speak English, but I'm learning Spanish so hopefully this will help! And to the person mad about the American flag for English.. I think it's there because America speaks English too. Plus, the people here are mainly American therefore using American words for things rather than those words that are different between America and the UK. But anyways, they took down the American flag. I liked it though so that when I was done looking at another language I could go back to English especially if I looked at several & that way I don't have to go back, wait to load, and go back again. This is a really good idea! Some people were saying that they arn't very good translations which isn't too cool. I'm sure that there are a bajillion people on the site who can make really good translations who would be more than happy to do it. I wouldn't mind doing the translations for them into Russian.:) (I translate things into Russian very well!)

The italian version is quite good, but there are two mistakes: -Traduzioni (translations) is with only one Z. It's considered a big mistake in spelling. Every word ending with - zione/i is with an only Z. - The translation of Enjoy is not Godete! LOL! I'ts better to translate with something like... 'Godetevi la novità'=enjoy the news. Why? Because 'godete', alone, with no other word, has a subtile sexual meaning. You don't use it alone, unless you want to wish people a fsical pleasure... I' hope I've been useful and not unpleasant and annoying.

Well, thanks for the effort and all that, but... honestly, the Spanish translation makes my eyes bleed. Either someone is having you and using a translation software whilst they charge you for a human-driven translation, or you are having us. I think HarryLatino is a perfect source for HP news in Spanish, so I'd advise that you fire whoever is giving you such grammatically-insulting pieces of nonsense...

Well this is all cool of course BUT..where is Russian?? Although I do speak English I think that there must be Russian too. HP has a lot of Russian- speaking fans and having the news in Russian would be very helpful.

Take it easy, guys. I'm nothing to do with mugglenet but I know what it's like doing this kind of this. For those complaining that it's not up to date yet, the news post says this is just an initial release and it'll be updated daily from now on. For those being rude about the mis-translations, please take in to consideration that everyone who works for mugglenet is a volunteer. They don't get paid. Mugglenet can't afford to hire someone check everything, they're relying on you guys to politely explain if the translation is off in any way. They can only go on what the translator tells them. I'm sure this project has taken a lot of organisation on behalf of mugglenet. Especially with different people being all over the world, in different timezones, adding more languages on top of these would be a huge undertaking I'm sure. Be patient and maybe they'll add your langauge too.

Funny how this new 'translations' thing was made just a fa week after me and my partner sent an e-mail to andrew suggesting the idea, offering to help as translators, and never getting an e-mail back.

The translation plan has been in the pipeline for about 6 months or more at LEAST. I remember seeing the job openings for translators waaaay back last year. They vanished about a month ago. If Spanish is your language, check job openings...they're looking for a new spanish translator it seems.

I think this is a brilliant thing for MuggleNet to do! I've been trying to bring my French back up to par since it slipped in the last few years, and reading something that's easily refrencable in English is handy. And if MuggleNet needs extra help, I'm a second year Japanese student and would love to offer my services in translating. Not as good as a natural speaker, but I'm honestly not that bad.

I had the feeling they were working on something like that, and I'm glad they went through with it, because i Have sooo many friends that don't speak english, and they hear me talking about how much I love the so, so we wanted to help :]

Scribbulus, I know that MuggleNet works hard and everyone works for free but still, I applied to translate in French and I see many mistakes, so it's really unnerving, because I'd have loved to do it and I would have made a better job. I'm not saying that that translator is bad but honestly, this is disappointing. I love MuggleNet and I think it's a shame that they feature news with a lot of mistakes. They could have chosen their translators more carefully (even if, as English speakers, they don't really have a way to see if the translations are good or bad...), or as I said in a previous comment, hire a few translators instead of just one so that they can review each post making sure they are alright.

I think they plan to recruit more translators for each language if there are struggles like this. They've already put up a job opening for an extra Spanish translator and will probably take another French one on board. This is their first test post to give them a chance to find out if their translators are up to scratch or not and get feedback - it's not supposed to be perfect. They asked what qualified someone to translate in their job applications - how else could they have chosen more carefully? I guess the person they chose had more experience/qualifications . Doesn't make them a better translator than you but of course that's how they'll choose one person over another. I wish you luck if they do need another French translator, you sound very enthusiastic.
