'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

my day just got 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better. this is incredible. i love the cover and i love the promiscuous back on the UK cover. SO UNPREDICTABLE!!!

Posted by emmafan18 Mar 28th 2007

WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW W!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite is the US version. I wonder who is going to die. Its SO not fair that hey get to read the book in advance!

Posted by snapdragon Mar 28th 2007

For the children's UK version, did anyone notice that the arm holding the sword is much too thin to be Ron's? And then there's another hand on Harry's shoulder. Plus, Ron's one arm is too far behind him to be either the arm the sword is holding or the hand on Harry's back. Then there's a little light grayish green form that looks like it could be Dobby's head, 'cause it looks like there's a pointy ear coming out of it... Hmmm.. Besides that, I AM SO INSANELY EXCITED. And Harry's scar seems to be missing from the US version. That's pretty strange. What could that mean?

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

honestly i orignially thought that the book covers were going to be very ....bland...i dont know why but this has definately changed my perception of the book and how the cover should look...its very proficient and looks amazing.....you can tell how much detail and thought was put into these...especially as they contain hidden secrets and theories to the plot of the book that will keep us all hyper and needing the book more....well done....

Posted by oakshaft79pn Mar 28th 2007

at first look it seems that ron is holding the sword but look closer, that is a house elf or something holding the sword. look at harrys write shoulder(left to us) you will see a little hand and you can see the top of what looks like a house elfs head. could it be dobby or kreacher or something more sinister????????????????? ???

Posted by NoDayBut2Day Mar 28th 2007

It's... so... beautiful! Reminds me of a colosseum. And then the UK cover.... why all the treasure?! GAH! I'm so excited!!!

Posted by Shylah Mar 28th 2007

Does the U.S. cover take place inside the archway seen in the U.K. cover? The skies in both seem to be the same color, and by the direction of their hair on the U.K cover, they seem to be getting sucked in rather than jumping out. OMG!

Posted by PenelopeMarffleParff Mar 28th 2007

It's amazing to me that just one image can stir up such elation and such dread inside me all at once. I'm going to be inconsolable after I'm done with it, I'm sure.

Posted by GinnyInTheStars Mar 28th 2007

does it appear to anyone else on the us full jacket that Harry and Voldie almost appear to be working together? WEIRD!

Posted by Wafaa Mar 28th 2007

WOW!!! I love all three... It's getting sooo close now :D

Posted by EloquentPhoenix Mar 28th 2007

No. No. No. NO! He sobbed and sobbed. Oh hell. And the UK children's cover is absolutely hideous. I hate it with a passion. I don't know anyone that likes it. I'll have to get the adult version which will look out of place with all of my others. *Sighs*

Posted by NoDayBut2Day Mar 28th 2007

yeah, GinnyInTheStars... or as if they're both trying to call something... and oakshaft: I looked closer and I can see that know, strange. Well they might be a bit miffed in the movies that they cut Dobby out of the fourth and fifth now... :)

When compared to the US covers for OOTP and HBP, I personally think this one is a huge let down. I darker color rather than yellow would have looked much better. The UK cover looks absolutely horrible though in my opinion. To me, it kinda looks like a cheap cartoon from the 70's.

Posted by Draco_Dormiens Mar 28th 2007

Honestly, I find the artwork for the US books way more appealing than the UK ones, maybe it's because I find it to be much more interesting and it's all image of a scene. Unlike the UK ones, which depicts a scene in the front and just an image of whatever in the back, so, I'm much more fond of the US ones. Honestly, I thought, when I first read Deathly Hallows, that the artwork was to be Dark, spooky even frightening, but it's not like that at all... The UK cover, I think, ok, it tells more, but it doesn't convince me, It's just too... blah, actually all the UK covers, except HBP and GOF, that were really good, they don't do nothing for me. Oh, and the Adult covers, I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM, THEY'RE REALLY A PIECE OF ART... THEY'RE AMAZING. Now the US ones, maybe it's because I got used to them, are waaaaaaay better. This one, I loved it... every single little detail... loved it... loved the orange, loved the scene, loved it! Can't wait to read the book and see which scene that one is. This book is going to be dark, the covers might tell otherwise, but looking back, the US GOF cover seemed inocent, and it's one of the darkest book... My favorite cover is the OotP one (US), can't get enough of it.. Can't wait... so many things need answers, and this covers brough many more, what's on Harry's neck? where are LV and Harry? Who's in the background? Death eaters? Spirits? ghosts? people?... what are they looking at? reaching? In the UK, where the hell are they? who's that grabbing Harry's back? Dobby? Kreacher? Is that Hogwarts? or another castle we're yet to know... It's just, so many questions have come up, and 114 days left before we find out... I CAN'T WAIT...

Posted by smellysocks Mar 28th 2007

Oh i am gonna cry!!! I really hope its not Harry, i really hope its not Ron, i really hope its not Hermy, i really hope its not Ginny, i really hope its not Nevell, i really hope its not Luna.......you know what lets hope its just Voldemort- i'l be Happy!!! :)

Posted by Kievan Mar 28th 2007

Wow. That really puts an end to things doesn't it? I mean, it's really the end, that's all we really had left to see and there it is! Cover, front flap text and all. I'm not too thrilled about the orange, but with the theories about Fawkes that I've read and the arena looking background on the US cover..I dunno. I'm excited and sad at the same time!

...ive noticed that some people seem to be dissapointed with the uk version..maybe as they think it should be more sinister...but my opinion..the uk is much better than the us version..even though the us version is good....its a tad too obvious, due to the fact voldy and harry are on the cover however not all that obvious...i prefer the uk version as it is vibrant so it easily catches your eye, and will interest buyers with the intersting front cover....also it is more secerative in the fact it isnt as obvious as to whats going on..i mean yiu have no idea where they are or any clues as to what part of the book it belongs to..i mean the us version isnt all that obvious either but i feel that the uk version is just a bit more restricted in what you can guess.....it gives the reader also the vibes that the book isnt going to be that all dark and distrubing although im sure parts of it will be....but yeah if you get my drift...i know this is only my opinion, but im ready for the tomato throwing anyway....ahhh well both covers are still amazing...IM SSSOOOO HYPERR.........

Posted by SilentBob Mar 28th 2007

Hmm, the color of the US cover doesn't really fit the title like I thought it would. I was expecting something dark and gloomy, but this gives me a real strong feeling that the book won't be filled with total misery.

Posted by aussiefan24 Mar 28th 2007

"sobbed and sobbed"? And this is a grown man, imagine what it's gonna do to me! :(

Posted by GinnyInTheStars Mar 28th 2007

WHOA ya'll look at the childerens cover. I noticed it just a second ago put the pic in photoshop and zoomed in there appears to be a house elf or goblin on Harry's shoulder! It appears there are either being pulled backwards or they were pushed back but I'm thinkging they're being pulled or possibly sucked through the hole behind them.

Posted by hermohninny Mar 28th 2007

i think harry is wearing slytherin's locket (us cover)! wow i was so excited to finally see the covers....its kinda sad to remember that these are the last ones tho...but they are great!

Posted by elphaba731 Mar 28th 2007

It doesn't look like Harry has a scar, neither has a robe, there's some sort of curtain (the veil?!?), Voldy and Harry have identical robes, Harry's eyes look blue (do wizards have contacts??), and WHAT is Harry wearing around his neck? It almost seems as if they're doing the same thing... But, whatever. WE HAVE A COVER!!!!

Posted by pHoAtRtReYr Mar 28th 2007

THERE IS A HOUSE-ELF ON HARRY'S BACK, AND RON'S NOT HOLDING THE SWORD!!!!!!!! THE HOUSE-ELF IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by themixguy Mar 28th 2007

Someone might want to point out to Today that they have the wrong release date

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

hey- maybe voldy and harry have to work together for something in the book.. i mean they are both doing the same thing...voldy doesnt look like hes trying to get harry...and harry probably wouldnt be stood next to him if they were battling it out...hey wouldnt that be an odd twist!!!! lol

Posted by Deadly Mar 28th 2007

ron on the cover looks like rupert grint

Posted by digger1028 Mar 28th 2007

I personally like the UK cover better than the US cover - but will read the book no matter what the cover looks like :-)

Posted by oakshaft79pn Mar 28th 2007

i absolutley love the back and side flaps of the uk kids version, im still undecided about the front though. i knew that it would be black and white for the writing. the us version seems a little bland, not as mysterious as the last ones, i definatley think that it is not the best US version. when i sat down at the computer i seemed really excited for some reason, i told myself that if i got really excited the covers would have been released, i almost had a heart attack when i saw that they had been released. is that hogwarts on the back of the uk kids version, it almost looks to be made of glass, and what is the little symbol at the top of the spine???????????????????? ?

Posted by Quantummilkshake Mar 28th 2007

Couldn't that be Voldemort grabbing Harry, the hand looks the same as the hand in the US version... And is harry's scar missing? or is it there, cuz I see something on there that looks like his scar... maybe?

Posted by Kate_Lynne Mar 28th 2007

Whoa...I've been looking at these all morning and I just noticed that on the British children's edition Harry, Ron, and Hermione are there with DOBBY, who is HOLDING GRYFFINDOR'S SWORD! Ohmigod...

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 28th 2007

omg if that gusy was crying while reading it that means harry may die.. i have a thery that hes going to die.. but im not going to explain it here.. *gulp*

Posted by kirbilicious Mar 28th 2007

After looking at the full cover for the US version, I get the impression that the arch has been destroyed and I just noticed that Harry is surrounded by people in the background. It's pretty cool, but I still would have liked a darker color. Honestly, my main reason for disliking the UK cover is that the animation just seems rather poor - too much like a cartoon, whereas the US illustration is very realistic.

Posted by christianaeg Mar 28th 2007

IT'S ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! IT'S GONNA BE SAD.... A FRIEND TOLD ME SHE SAW THE COVER ART ON THE TODAY SHOW AND I SNUCK ON TO A COMPUTER ILLAGALLY TO SEE IT..... I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS BUT I LOOKS GREAT!!!!!! I PREDICTED THE COLOR OF THE COVER WOULD BE GOLD!!!!

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

the symbol if you look closely is a triangle with a circle in the middle and then a line straight throught it....i wonder what that represents....could it be some sort of ancient runes??? i'll check later.....

Posted by HPtears101 Mar 28th 2007

OMG!!! the covers are intersting. in the US version, it's a little plainer than the rest but i still love how beautiful and simple it is. The British version cover it strange. What are they doing? I like it all the same though... I'M SO EXCITED. and it's so emotional! i'm gonna cry

Posted by Fishbowl Mar 28th 2007

his scar is there. just look closely. it isn't red and standing out like on the SS cover. I mistook it for hair the first time I saw it. I thought that his scar was missing, but its there.

Posted by chicoli Mar 28th 2007

Noone has aid anything about the cuts in both hP and hermione's arm...

Posted by Little_Nightmare Mar 28th 2007

WOOOOOOT!!!! YAY!!! I love the cover. If Mary Grandpre stuck to the usual of putting whoever is going to die on the cover, then we can safely assume that Ron, Hermione, and no one else dies and that Voldemort or Harry die... or both. We all assume that she kills off Voldemort, because if he lives the books were just kinda pointless, right? Anywho, I can't wait!!!!

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

yeah guys...i zoomed in on the uk version of the childrens version..the scar is definatley there...its not as visible as the other ones on the other book covers but altogether its still there....everyone can now stop wondering of the scar is really there...lol

Posted by Dan21 Mar 28th 2007

I wanna know what's around Harry's neck. And he looks so grown up now.

Posted by harrys_wand Mar 28th 2007

i think the elf is kreacher... mabbe a lotr momen?

Posted by Hermione_Granger090894 Mar 28th 2007

OH GOD THANK YOU!(*DOES THE HAPPY DANCE*)

Posted by LindaW Mar 28th 2007

i love it, but it's totally different from what I expected.....The two of them, (Voldemort and Harry-american cover) are just so.....alone. i know that's how it's gonna be, but..... and it's such a bright, festive color(orange) for a book called "Deathly Hallows"......makes me wonder.......

Posted by smashing Mar 28th 2007

US cover is gorgeous, and UK child's cover is so exciting. There's an incredible amount of detail if you look closely. For example, Hermione and Ron seem to be wearing quite ornate robes.. almost as though for a special occasion; whereas Harry is wearing nothing of the sort. Curious.....

Posted by MaskedBeauty Mar 28th 2007

Amazing, but depressing as all hell. It just really makes things more real, that this is the last book ever. I think I may cry. Off to analyze the three covers.

Posted by Quantummilkshake Mar 28th 2007

hey! there are cuts on harry and hermione's arms.. The covers in scarlet and gold. Gryfinndor colors.. hmmmmmmm... coincident al? no?

Posted by oakshaft79pn Mar 28th 2007

i knew all three would be on this cover. the covers go in a pattern (sorta) excluding book 6 on the covers: book 1: just harry book 2: harry and ron book 3: harry and hermione book 4: just harry book 5: no one book 6: harry and dumbledore book 7: harry, ron, and hermione

They make a fuss about Hogsmeade, but I assure you, Harry, it's not all it's cracked up to be. All right, the sweetshop's rather good, and Zonko's Joke Shop is frankly dangerous, and yes, the Shrieking Shack's always worth a visit, but really, Harry, apart from that you're not missing anything.
