'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

The most logical entity that they're both reaching for is something from Severus Snape. Snape's the big mystery that's been building since the very first book, the person whose allegiances are the most clandestine. He's probably present in the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort, and both of them think that he's on their side.

Is it me or does that AOL logo kinda look like the Triforce from Zelda? Hmmm.....Nintendo and Aol Product Placement.....LOL (but I still think the UK cover reeks!)

Posted by mandie2010 Mar 28th 2007

I keep coming back to mugglenet to stare at the cover between homework problems.

Posted by christianaeg Mar 28th 2007

ooOooo!!!!!!!!! HARRY'S WEARING THE LOCKET!!! US version!!!! COSMIC!!!!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Mar 28th 2007

does anyone think we'll get a short mugglecast today with the hosts giving us their reactions to the covers? i mean they did that when the release date came out....

Posted by BananaChan Mar 28th 2007

Wow- I'm so amazed that the cover is acutally here. And all that's left is the book. Crazy stuff, huh? Anyways, I love the cover. I believe that this is the best Mary GrandPre has ever drawn Harry Potter- he looks almost excactly as I imagined him! Of course I'm sad that the series is ending, but I know that it will go out with a bang and leave us all stunned.

Posted by maveraven Mar 28th 2007

The people in the backround look like death eaters. i think harry dies in the book and voldermort lives but gets something worse then death. JK keeps repating that there are worse things then death. It could be a locket around his neack but it also looks like a small pouch. I am glad the color is tellow, we had to books that were green.

Posted by Moaning_Myrtle Mar 28th 2007

The curtains and archway--- it MUST be the one in the department of mysteries!!!!! JUST HAS TO BE!!! It's going to be a BIG part of the book--i just know it ; ) There was a big clue about the whispering behind the vail in book 5. so now i think we will find out more about the whole vailed archway thing... that's the part of the book that really intrigues me most! I JUST REALLY HOPE THAT WE FIND OUT ABOUT THE VAIL AND MOST OF ALL---WHO WAS WHISPERING BEHIND IT!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. i really don't think harry will find all the horcruxes..... just the locket...... PPS. why doesn't harry have a scar in the US cover?? he does on the uk if you find a bigger picture!!! Or can we just not see it right.................... ..... Another point---could harry's scar be a horcrux??? That would make sense yet it wouldnt. Dumbledore SAID he could remove it if he wanted to---why didn't he??? I guess cause it was "usefull" (yeah right) I could go on w/ my theories for ever so ; ) i'll stop!!! ~~~~Moaning Myrtle~~~~

*screams incoherently for five minutes* Seriously, I did. It's gorgeous. There are so many things on there to be analyzed, it's unreal. I think several people are bang-on--the US version is probably at the Quidditch Pitch at Hogwarts or at the Department of Mysteries. Whatever it is, The Veil has been pulled back between worlds, that's for sure--it's not just a curtain on the edge of the paper. EVERYTHING that is on that cover is important, or GrandPre wouldn't have drawn it. Now, as for the UK kids' version (I love the Adult cover, it's so pretty!), I do agree that it could be a Gringott's vault, but the question is... Who's Vault Is It? *wink wink*

Posted by BaybeeBethy Mar 28th 2007

Why are all the Americans bashing our cover? :( Seriously, it's not bad, and although I do like yours a lot (your Harry is very nice, where as I have to admit ours looks like a 40-year-old doofus) I prefer the English one. Okay, so there's a lot happening, but I like that. Yours is a lot calmer... but I like that too. But I do like the back of the UK Children's one, with Hogwarts all silvery and the doors open emitting light... that means something, I think... I think I need to jump on my bed and scream again :) ...

Posted by SiriusGirl Mar 28th 2007

Ron's not holding the sword, there's something on Harry's back. I think it's Dobby, maybe. On the US kids version, the locket is on Harry's neck. There are rubies on the sword, so it has to be Gryffindor. There are sores all over the trio's arms. (Can't see Ron's arms so I can't be sure) There are a LOT of rubies in the vault, so maybe it's Gryffindor's vault? I don't know. Sirius'? All I can think of for now...

Posted by The_Maltese_Fan Mar 28th 2007

Although the whole of the trio look a bit strange in the UK cover I still prefer the UK version than the american one. Maybe because all my covers are the british ones. I imagine the hogwarts scene at the back shows also a bit of the graveyard that Jo mentioned (where there's the tree and clouds). And why is that Elf with the trio on the cover holding Godric's sword (at least, i think it is)

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Mar 28th 2007

US cover is sexy

Posted by Beca_Sue_16 Mar 28th 2007

Yes, I so cannot wait...!!!!

Posted by Glubad Mar 28th 2007

OMG! My firend and I saw it during first period at school, and we were hyper for the rest of the day! YAY!! WOW...the covers look really different!!

Posted by modernswinger Mar 28th 2007

i just noticed, in the UK edition, there is what appears to be a house elf on harry's back, holding up the sword. could it be dobby? winky? kreacher (though i doubt it, nasty little twit)? another house elf? or some other random creature? also, in the US edition, harry is wearing something brown around his neck. it looks like a brown leather necklace thing with a little brown pouch. what could be in there? and why is harry's hand reached upward? AAAHH!!!!!!!!! !!

Posted by SomebodyElse Mar 28th 2007

My first thought when I saw the arches in the background on the US cover is they were somehow representative of the veil in the Department of Ministries, especially with the shadows in the background, but there's only one arch there so that wouldn't make much sense . . . It looks to me like his scar is fading. Also, are those bird feathers in the bottom corner or just shadow? The US version and the UK adult version are both superlative, (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally here!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I don't like the UK kids version at all.

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

BaybeeBethy- i agree...it does anoy me that the americans do bash our cover..its as good as theirs...just cos people thought it would look different and isnt what they thought it would be doesnt mean u have to hate it...stop bashing it....overall the actuall book is more imortant htan the front cover.....

Posted by ValorOrgulloso Mar 28th 2007

oh my gosh... I love it... even if I laughed really hard when I saw Hermione on the UK version... she's just so FUNNY looking! But in the US version Harry is REALLY GOOD LOOKING!

Posted by potterchick Mar 28th 2007

OMG! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S FINALLY HERE! I'M SO EXCITED AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME...BUT I'M NOT TOO HAPPY WITH THE COVER=/

Posted by dumbledoreswoolnsox_22 Mar 28th 2007

WOW! I cant believe it's actually out! it's beatiful! all of them are!! theyre..........just..... ......AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tears of joy*

Posted by Grinch Mar 28th 2007

I always hoped that the trio would go to Gringotts and venture into its depths. Based on the UK kids book, I think that will happen! I also can't wait to read about Godric's Hollow. One of my favorite things to do is just as I'm finishing a chapter, quick glance at the next chapter pic. Not quite a spoiler but just a tease.

Posted by maveraven Mar 28th 2007

American arent bashing the uk covers, we are just being very criticle. Each cover gives us diffrent clues, so each is important. It must be dobby on harry's back, JK said that there are no new characters in the last book. In the uk kids version, what the heack does treasure have to do with the plot? Any gusses?

Posted by Stupefy Mar 28th 2007

OH MY GOD, I AM HYPERVENTILATING RIGHT NOW!!!!

Posted by Destiny123123 Mar 28th 2007

OMG ITS SO FANTASTIC!!! Okay so several things: 1) Notice the background? At first thought I thought it was the Collesium in Rome....but what are the curtains for? 2) Is that the locket horcurx that harry is wearing? 3) Cound the fact that Harry and Voldemort don't have wands have something to do with Priori Incantatum? How they're wants are connected so they can't fight each other with them. Or, you know how with PI the souls that you murder come out in reverse order, so could those be the souls? The death eaters? The deathly hallows? AWW Harry is so adorable he CAN'T die I would be CRUSHED

Posted by theaterjunkie91 Mar 28th 2007

omg omg omg omg ahh this is so exciting! i didn't like the US cover at first but when you look at the entire jacket and voldemort is there it's pretty cool. I don't know what's up with the UK version. I guess we'll see.

Posted by SiriusGirl Mar 28th 2007

"Posted by modernswinger 5 minutes ago also, in the US edition, harry is wearing something brown around his neck. it looks like a brown leather necklace thing with a little brown pouch. what could be in there?" I'd just like to say (not to be mean) that it's not a pouch, probably, it's just shaded weird. Like you know how HBP was all green? Yeah, well I think it's the locket... just it looks different than how we'd imagine. It's just shaded brown instead of gold...

Posted by hermione1996 Mar 28th 2007

harry must die or ron or hermione AHHHHH!I'm HERMIONE1996 does that mean if hermione dies i will too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ????????????????????

Posted by maveraven Mar 28th 2007

Some ne said earlier that there were curtians on the cover of the first book too. They said it is like an opening and closing on stage and I agree. The curtains have no further significance

Posted by Mollie8391 Mar 28th 2007

I absolutely LOVE all three covers! Phenominal! I can't wait to put THAT on my HP shrine-shelf! ,

Posted by polkadots56 Mar 28th 2007

ahhh! I AM FLIPPING OUT! CAN'T WAIT UNTILL MUGGLECAST!!!

Posted by lillink1222 Mar 28th 2007

I can't believe this!!! Looking at the british version, there looks like there are sooo many clues. Why are they wearing the specific coloured robes? Who's holding the sword in the background? What's with the circular thingy? OH! It's most likely the veil! And on the side of the book, what's with the circle inside the triangle? And the snake within the circle? Is the snake Nagini? And could the globe be a prophecy?

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

i agree i do not like the UK version it has nothing to do with its uk even if it was the US version i would still hate it. i just think the US version is amazling put together and has only harry potter on it which is the title of the book! so i love its its pretty awesome :]

Posted by christianaeg Mar 28th 2007

oOOOoo!!! The first and seventh covers are related! I know someone already posted about thte curtins opening/closing the books. Both covers feature Harry and someone else, dumbledore/LV. In both neither party has a wand.... AND there's arches in both! in SS they're in the front, and harry's going through them, like entering the magical world. In DH, Harry's completly on one side. AND... In both Harry's reaching for something!!!!! COOL!!!!!!

Posted by BaybeeBethy Mar 28th 2007

@ Sticky - Yeah, I have to agree, it's the words on the pages that count! But still, there's an awful lot of bashing about our cover, I kind of wasn't expecting all of it when I first saw the covers and then read some of the comments this morning. But anyways, although all this analysing is all very fun and that and we're squeezing as much info as possible as we can from what we have been presented with, now I think about it, the covers have all had very little to do with the actual main storylines and bigger parts... I mean, this could be different, being the final book and all, but still... But there's no harm in guessing as much as possible, I enjoy it lol :)

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

HARRYS NOT GONNA DIE!!!!! ITS IMPOSSIBLE.......

Posted by crazy20yzarc06 Mar 28th 2007

it says on the back of the UK version that Harry goes back to the Dursleys.... and he waits on the Orders. Sounds familar These are not my favourite covers....but still awsome

Posted by Annie Mar 28th 2007

OH. MY. GOD. That is all.

Posted by sondra Mar 28th 2007

OMG I'M SO EXCITED IS Harry wearing the locket.

Posted by brightredbucket Mar 28th 2007

I'm so confused. i cant see voldemort on the US cover. Or the curtains. Am i just being stupid?

Posted by crazy20yzarc06 Mar 28th 2007

it is blown up really big...and there is a seperate link in the text for the full cover

Posted by Nic Mar 28th 2007

yay!!!! i love the uk covers but im not too sure about the us one. is that hogwarts on the kids uk one?? n i love the stag in the bottom!!!!! it worries me that harry, ron n hermione look kinda...injured or something (?) in the uk kids one. well i for one am looking forward to another 4/5 months worth of speculation!

Posted by BaybeeBethy Mar 28th 2007

@ brightredbucket - Are you looking at the entire jacket, the link is underneath the pictures.

Posted by hpintwense06 Mar 28th 2007

so I have read a whole lot of comments, and here are a few things I want to say/repost: 1.) Harry DOES have his scar still on the US cover, it's just kind of hidden by his hair. 2.) UK covers show us things that we definately do not see on the US cover. While the characters on the UK Children's cover may not be perfect, I believe that it does give us very big clues!!! 3.) Have you noticed the curtains on the US cover? Well on the book one US cover Mary Grandpre also put a curtain on the back of the cover. TO ME I think that these curtains, on their respective books, are like the "opening" and "closing" of the books. do you get that? kind of like at a play you have the curtains opening to begin the play and closing to end it. 4.) For some reason, the US cover makes me think Harry will live. And I also think that the choice of color for it represents triumph/victory. You know, like glory at the end of a long fight. I like the color now, it just took some time to sink in.

Posted by chellabella Mar 28th 2007

Orange??? w/e it works for me! I think the necklace on the adult cover is the locket-Horcrux, maybe. Love the deatheaters in the backround. Harry looks so much older! Can't wait to read it, I'll need my Kleenex.

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

brightredbucket- DID you look on the book of the cover of the US version thats where voldy awaits.... OK and everybody has their own opinion on what cover they like and thats why we have these post so we can express them more......

Posted by person92 Mar 28th 2007

When I first saw them i wasn't sure how I felt about them, but now that I really looked at them, I love them! I like how the US version has Harry and Voldemort, and then how the UK one has Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Plus, the UK verson looks like it has a lot of clues! I'm soooo excited

Posted by oakshaft79pn Mar 28th 2007

i have decided that i love the covers. if you go to raincoast.com it has a little picture of the book( 3 dimensional) this gives you an idea to what it will look like on the book. it makes me want to hold it in my hands. oh my god I WANT TO BE A WIZARD SO BAD!!!!!!!!! do the US versions have the hogwarts crest drawing at the begining of the book?

Posted by Dumbledorelives Mar 28th 2007

The cover is AMAZING! I love it. Hey, didn't they ask on Mugglecast last week for Jo to give us the cover art? It worked!!!

Posted by lestatsluver666 Mar 28th 2007

I must admit....I'm a little dissapointed. I read it was released on a scrolling news reel, and ran straight to Mugglenet.com.....but after seeing the UK version my heart just sank. I dunno what I was expecting...I actully don't think I was expecting anythhing, but I hate it....I hate the looks on there faces, just pretty much everything about it....*sigh*....It's the first time I can actully say....I prefer the US one
