'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here
You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.
Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:
"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.
"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."
When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:
"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"
"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

I was kidding about the Umbridge is a Horcrux thing......
OMGGGGG. Holy god.. this is seriously making me sad now. I don't want it to end. But yeah. Interesting covers.
FELIX- voldy looks scared? WHERE IS HE?? and serious question: at the top of the spine for the UK version theres a triangle with a circle in it. Is that for bloomsbury or HP?
So they ARE comming back to Hogwarts!! Arent they??? That looks like Hogwarts in the US children version!!!!! I just wonder what they're comming back for!!
OMG!!!!!! I SOOOOOO CAN NOT WAIT TILL JULY21!!!!!!!!!! I LUVED THE AMERICAN VERSION N THE UK VERSION!!!!!!! THEY R SOOOO TOTALLY FRICKIN AWSOME!!!!!!
I saw these pictures right about 10 minutes ago, and reading some of your comments I want to say only just one thing : the fact that Harry and Voldemort don't have wands makes sense, because it is clear to everyone that Harry can't beat Voldemort using magic. Even Dumbledore had problems facing Voldemort and his magic skills. The fact that Harry and Voldemort don't have a wand clearly sais that the answer for destroying Voldemort isn't a magical confrontation, but a confrontation with Harry's most powerfull weapon : love and goodness. This Voldemort can't beat not in a million years. Lynx, Romania.
Serinity: Ron's not holding the sword, an alleged house elf (Kreacher, possibly) is. Though Gryffindor's sword is a good guess, I wonder... elisadear: Lol, I think it might be Bloomsbury... but don't take my word for it, I'm an idiot. :) MrsFredWeasley, that's a thought, it being the fake locket. I dunno, though, it looks WAY too much like just a bag for me to completely be sold on that notion. I'm way too stubborn though. :)
hmmmmm maybe they fall into the viel, and only one can leave...
upwards of 800 comments. in one day. hah.
US: That's not a brown bag around Harry's neck. It is just too shadowy to see any detail on the LOCKET. This "brown bag" thing is ridiculous.
why does everyone keep saying voldy isnt holsing a wand? i dont see him in any of the covers. ALSOOOOO, whats the triangle at the top of the spine in the UK version?? is that for bloomsbury or HP??? someone please respond!!!!!!!
hahah lol DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY thats good :]]] i kinda figured!!!!!!!!!!!! rhgiug idhfair fhvdfe im going crazzzzzzay!!!!!! like what are all of us gonna do when harry potters done im not even kidding!!!!!!!! are we gonna sit around no harry potter WILL LIVE ON!!
this has been on my mind forever: if Voldie and Harry can't use wands, how in heaven and hell are they going to battle? Karate? may some drop-kicking here and there?
Lynx, I LOVE YOU! YOU'RE SO SMART! Thank you for sharing your brilliant knowledge with us, I can't even imagine how long it might've taken some of us (haha, or maybe just me) to work that out. Now, if only you could tell us what he's reaching for... haha. :] kingyouth412: not necessarily. =/ I'm not going to try and convince you but its not THAT shadowy, and when you take a look at the full cover, without resizing it at all, it looks just like a little brown drawstring bag.
why does harry look like a 30 year old man on the american cover?
the triangle has to be for HP, because 1) there are always hp related images on the spine of the UK edition. and 2) because the Bloomsbury symbol is a black dog like on the back of the cover.
its a bag. if you look at the picture, first you see a circle, this could go either way. But ON TOP OF THE CIRCLE you see a little cloth go up, its a bag.
The thing arround Harry's neck on the US version is definetly the Locket!! I'm still amazed that a House-Elf is holding the sword! I believe is Dobby because we all know that Kreacher has no intention to help harry in any way! This book is going to be SO good!!!! I can't wait, thins only makes me want to read the book even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! OMG I'm so excited! All the covers are so grean, I think that if the Locket is the central thing on the adults cover, it must mean that there's something really important about it! less than four months to rad it! yay!!! =)
It looks like there is a snake on the breastplate in the UK edition? Anyone else agree?
this has been on my mind forever: if Voldie and Harry can't use wands, how in heaven and hell are they going to battle? Karate? may some drop-kicking here and there? And also: assuming that the thing around Harry's neck IS a bag, what the hell is in it?
if only i could enlarge the british cover and see what the reflection in harry's glasses is...
MrsFredWeasley: I knew I was wrong about that triangle. :D Now I only wonder what it really means. Dragon_queen4ever: bit of a bloodless battle we're fighting here, yeah? ITS A BAG, ITS A LOCKET, ITS A BAG! I'm still leaning toward the bag... Aneley: How many brown lockets and chains have you seen in your day? Or, better yet, wasn't Slytherin's locket described as silver-y?
elisadear: that is definatly an HP thing, not a Bloomsbury thing, although I don't know what it means. And Voldy is on the left side of the US edition. noliesjustlove: You can try your best but I doubt you'll be able to... if nothing else, it is the fake horcrux that Harry said he'd wear as a reminder
i was thinking about the glasses, it looks like a continuation of a tunnel. and if the triangle IS HP thennnn any explanations?
look closely, it is a bag, cause, the top of the circle has cloth going up, like a little pouch
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ! VERDICT: Hate the art (UK edition), but the "HP Theories" section of my mind is currently exploding!
1) To me, it seems like Voldemort and Harry are reaching for something. I don't think they're using non-verbal magic or wandless magic or anything. They just look like they're reaching for something. (US) 2) Yes, I do think they are "beyond the veil" on the US cover. And those shadows in the background are.. dead people, basically. My very, very first thought had been that this was the place where the final battle was going to take place and those "shadows" were the Death Eaters. Not too sure about that one though. Noticing those "curtains" on the sides made me think of the veil. So, yeah, I think it's the place beyond the veil. 3) On the children's UK cover, that might be the archway... but at the same time, I'm doubtful. I do think however, that this place is in the Department of Mysteries... but WHAT is up with those jewels and the gold and... like. Yeah. XD 4) First I had thought it was Ron holding the sword but then I saw the elf/goblin thing behind Harry and I was all ZOMGWTH?? So, then I was like, yeah, probably Dobby... which it probably is. But on the other hand, Harry is Kreacher's master... so we don't know. And I'm also thinking that this could possibly mean that the sword is either a horcrux or portrait!Dumbledore offers Harry to take it along on the quest. 5) OMGSCAR. Where did his scar go!? It could just be Harry's hair covering it but I highly doubt this. Wouldn't it be funny if it was a mistake? XD 6) The locket/bag around Harry's neck. It doesn't LOOK like a locket but I think that's what it is. I guess. Or it could be a little pouch in which Harry keeps the fake locket and the ring.. and the real locket.. o_O I'unno. 7) WHAT does that divided-circle-in-triangl e on the children's UK cover mean? I'm trying to look up "symbols" and stuff but so far I've been unable to find anything. Overall, LOVE the three covers. The adult!UK is AWESOME. I can't wait. Siriusly. By tomorrow, I'll probably have some new theories. XD Whatever. EEEEEEEE. X...
IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!
@ noliesjustlove : Well... i'm still a young wizzard, i'm not permitted to tell you everything ( joking :P ). I guess that maybe he's trying to get the final horcux, but my guess is that Harry and Voldemort are in some kind of a weird place (like the place Sirius got in to at the end of book 5), and Harry tries to grab somebody's hand to get out, and Voldemort tryies to stop him... Lynx, Romania.
i am soooooooooooooooo excited for this book, alll the covers are great, and, to me, say a lot of what is to come
yeahhhh i still cant see Voldy in the US version, i see death eaters, but not voldy. something must be wrong with me
On the U.K. one, if you look closely, Hermione looks like she's crying, and Ron looks like he's just been startled. I think either Ron or Harry is dying.
the_non_existent: I agree with pretty much everything you said exceept that you can clearly see Harry's scar on the US edition. or at least i can anyway...
I love it how everone here spells seriously, siriusly...:)
I would surmise that Harry is wearing the locket as a form of protection. One could reasonably assume that this scene is part of the finale, and he has destroyed all the other horcruxes except for this one. Aiming a curse at Harry would also aim a curse at the horcrux, and potentially destroy it, making him mortal. Hence, Harry is shielding himself by wearing one. On an unrelated note, I believe the Deathly Hallows refer to the seven individuals who were murdered by Voldemort in the act of making a horcrux.
KPShadowcat: Looks like a miniscule dragon to me. And it looks strangely three dimensional. Er, wait, unless you're talking about the breast plate on the far left... yeah, that one looks as if its got a snake on it. kingyouth412: alright, I'm done with the bag/locket/whatever it is. haha, all this cover art is getting me riled up with theories. Lynx and the_non_existent: you two've got me sold - I definately thing they're beyond the veil. And I bet the scar thing is a mistake - theres always one on every cover. Like Dumbledore's magically healed hand on 6 and wrong wand hand for Harry on five! Gotta love the mess ups.
elisadear: Are you looking at the link that is with all the other UK ones? Try clicking the High-rez version link found just below the ones you are probably looking at!
My Awesome new theory: Harry's scar probably fades as each Horcrux is destroyed. If his on the US cover is barely visible, almost INvisble, does this picture show the scene where Harry finally finds and destroys the last horcrux?! IF IT IS THEN HARRY WILL LIVE!!!! MY DREAMS WILL COME TRUE!!!! If not.....I'll never read ever again! >.
I think I've gone blind. Or it may be this computer. -runs off to check on another computer- uhm. Yeah. ... It was this computer. XD
YES YOU CAN SEE HARRY'S SCAR IN THE US COVER!!!!!!!! It may be a bit hard to find at first cuz it blends in with his hair but it IS IN FACT THERE!!!! sorry but that is making me mad cuz if you look, you can see it. Ok and elisadear are you looking at the full US jacket? cuz you can just click on the little thingy that says something like, "See the full US jacet HERE" and there is a link to it. this is right below the other links.
yeah, i gotta leave now so i can theorize on my lonesome. OMG i am sooo excited!
o and kreacher/dobby (probably kreacher, i hope) is the one holding the sword, not ron. and yeah it does look like they are falling backwards into the veil (??) thing with the coins sliding everywhere! it really is a well done, detailed picture, but is jst isnt as good as mary grandpre's cover! hers is like mysterious and dark in a very subtle way, where the british cover is crazy and hectic, which i gues is cool but with orange being the color of the background that color is too hppy and fun for such a dark book. o well i am still insanely excited! i luv 2day! i hope something exciting happens 2morrow too becasue its my bday tomorrow and nothing every happens on my bday! yayayayayay!!!! im happy and i finished my homework and America's next top Model comes on tonight and the covers were released (the most excitinhg by far), and my bday is 2morrow! WOOOOOOT as everyone says...lol!
Hmmmm... am i the only one who's noticed the connections to the SS cover art? The american DH and SS both have curtins, 2 people (wandless), harry reaching for something, and arches. In SS harry's part way though the arches, like entering them into the magical world. In DH he's all the way into the world and the enterance is far behind...
hahahaha oh man, i never even saw the ling for the full US jacket, ive just been looking at the front cover the entire time. haha... thanks guys, im so emabrassed.
is it just me, or does it look like the covers should be switched. Isnt the Orange "US" cover more typical of a UK version and isnt the "UK" cover more typical as a Us version. Just a thought. Oh, and it looks almost as if Voldemort is controlling Harry's hand or something.
Dragon_queen4ever: Aweee, me too. Only in Harry Potter fandom... lol. elisadear: are you looking at the full version? the one without words? and whoever wrote about the scar (sorry, im too lazy to check) I see it on the US edition too, so it probably is a mistake on the UK one. ALRIGHT. I'm out, its been fun theorizing but I'm getting too sucked in! And HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY luv_hp_4ever! Lol.
elisadear: I think I found your problem. Don't click on the picture itself. Click on the link that says "You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE." that should solve you problem
OMG!!!!!!! aaaahhh too much excitement for one day....well...the uk childrens version tells us one thing on the back.....the order is picking him up from his house....cant wait to read it!!!!!
Nameless: I don't think that means anything.. but still.. I don't want Ron to die. Ron can't die. I don't want the trio to die. I mean, seriously. Ron and Hermione are presumably going to get together in this book, why would Jo just kill one of them? No. Too sad. I don't want the trio to die, especially Ron. No one seems to think that Hermione will die. What if she dies, eh? That could happen! Everyone is all, Harry or Ron will die... What about Hermione? Why can't SHE die? XD Not that I want her to, seriously. Just something that annoys me. As for the SS & DH cover similiarities... yeah, the similiarities are creepy but I don't think it was on purpose. I hope. Because that would also mean Ron and Hermione sacrifice. -death-
