'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

I don't think Mary GrandPre's main intention was creating a cover for the book. I think her main intention was creating a nice header for the MuggleNet page, with the book coming in second in the list of intentions. I mean, I cropped it to have a pixel count ratio that is VERY similar to the ones currently being used and it looked FABULOUS! What would be even cooler would be to have Dylan put MUGGLENET right where Voldemort and Harry are reaching. Edit: I still like mine better, but I can't complain with the one that was just posted.

This cover is awesome plain and simple. Oh, and 1000, woo!

Posted by hpfan20 Mar 28th 2007

1000th comment? yay!!! I like the cover =D

Has anybody ever noticed something throughout the series...who ever is on the book jacket dies...or for the most part that is true. 1st book-Unicorn. 2nd book-Fawkes. 3rd book-Buckbeak. (though he is saved, he dies originally) 4th book-Cedric. 5th book-Sirius. 6th book-Dumbeldore. hmmmm

I think this is SO freaking awesome! I've been puzzling over this for hours! I'm so excited!!!!! I'm glad that there are multiple covers, too, because, as awesome as the US version is, the UK Child's edition gives out A LOT of clues! So, what I've gathered so far: US Edition: --Harry is wearing some sort of leathery pouch around his neck (to me it looks like leather, so it couldn't be a locket) --Neither Harry nor Voldy has a wand --The title wasn't written in the same font as everything else (only book to do that) --They're both reaching/grasping/pointin g for something --They're in some sort of collessium (SP?!) or stage possibly --There are shadows in the background, I was thinking Death Eaters, but who knows? (But actually now that I look back at it, they DO kind of look like tombstones... the ground is green so that would be a lot like grass. So then maybe the structure around them is for decoration?) --Voldy is wearing a brown cloak, I thought that was odd for some reason. UK Kids: --First thing that stood out was that ring that the Trio seems to be running from/coming out of. I have no idea what that could be... possibly a means of transportation? --Yay! It's the Trio! So they're together then, right? --There seems to be an Elf on the back of Harry, holding up the Sword of Gryffindor, hense the large ruby on the bottom. But who? I think that Kreacher still has a part to play... but to go with Harry? Wow, that just seems really out of the blue. I'd like to think Dobby would come since he still "owes his life to Harry" but I dunno. He did spend a lot of time at the Malfoys since he was their server, so who knows... --Hermione and Ron are in strange robes. Why?! --There is a bowl, a cup, a plate, a helmet, and a breastplate in a silvery/glass color. Could they be horcruxes? I see that the breastplate has a snake stamped on it.... --Whats with that orb with the snake in it that changed colors? I have absolutely NO idea what that's about... -...

I like the way you think dmsteller. There's somewhat of a correlation to the book covers. Very interesting... Spartan s?..AHHOO AHHOO

Posted by lilac_kazz Mar 28th 2007

drool....is there a goblet /some sort of cup near Harry's elbow in the UK cover?

Posted by jellyskittles Mar 28th 2007

aww the uk version is only 608 pages... ah well. i must say its not what i expected, and it doesnt help that the 2 colours i hate the most are orange and purple! why all the gold and stuff on the front cover, and it looks as if the veil or whateva it cud be behind them is either sucking them in or ther trying to get out of it. what could the little white/silver thingy at the top of the spine bit of the book mean? it looks like a triangle with a circle and a line in it. interesting...

Posted by canuckgirl86 Mar 28th 2007

Wow! So much to contemplate! All 3 covers are awesome! I like how the UK kids one is orange and black. Something to do with Halloween maybe? I keep freaking out when I realize it's really done! It's all happening so fast! The US cover is really interesting - think it's the final battle scene? And where is it? I can't wait!

Posted by DA_Spartan Mar 28th 2007

After looking at all the covers once more, particularly the UK Child Cover, I have come to a horrific, yet possible conclusion... The trio will die. And, it will be Ron, then Hermione, then Harry. Each of them helping to push onward in order to finally kill Voldemort. It seems possible right? Right? I know a terrible thing to say, but how can the story end with all of them still alive. What would they do? Spartans?..AHHOO AHHOO

Posted by potthead7140 Mar 28th 2007

NOOOOOOOOO. DA_Spartan. they cant die!? i mean harry of course can. but ron and hermy?! no!! after six years of waiting for them to get together, they cant just die after they finally do! no that would be horrible. i actually would vomit. sad, sad, but i could accept it ONLY if ron died saving hermy.. :).. and they story could end with like ron and hermys wedding.. (yeahh! i hope).. well i have to go to bed..

Posted by Angiebelle Mar 28th 2007

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! Fantastic end to the day!! Oh!!!!! My Gosh!!! Love both covers. I get the UK; I disagree with Harry's look on it but I really actually couldn't care less!! They're both fabulous. I can't wait for the 21st July. Even though it will be 'over' it was one heckova ride! Plus, in all actuality, will HP ever be over? xx

Posted by DA_Spartan Mar 28th 2007

I know I know. I'm sorry everyone! I'm just trying to think of more possibilities! potthead7140 that's a good idea, too.. --Spartans?..AHH OO AHHOO

Posted by BethanyGranger Mar 28th 2007

dmsteller, that is an INSANE observation.... wow... I never even thought about that. *gasp* but I guess its not really telling us much since its only Voldy and Harry on the cover... and Harry`s on every cover haha. But good point!!

Posted by legolas1212 Mar 28th 2007

Yay! I can hear rejoicing all around the world! Oh wait, that's just me lol. I love the cover - and being able to look for more clues. By did anybody else notice that Harry's got a locket around his neck? Slytherin's locket? And why does it look like they're standing in rubble?! Oooh, I just love it...Btw if I had to guess, I'd say they're both reaching for a Horcrux...

Posted by d0bbyr0cksmys0cks Mar 28th 2007

0MG! is that dobby holding the sword? OMG! YAY DOBBY!!!! i love him.. but wats he doin there? and why's he holdin the sword? and holding on to harry? holly cheese.. im confused.. but excited.. but sad.. o n im talkin bout the uk cover

Posted by DA_Spartan Mar 29th 2007

OMG?! Did anyone notice that Deathly Hallows contains the letters to create... All owls hate DHY (Dumbledore's Homemade Yogurt)! It's incredible! Hahaha...No but seriously...haha..Just trying to crack some smiles! Spartans?..AHH OO AHHOO

Posted by oakshaft79pn Mar 29th 2007

DA_Spartan that is the most hilarious post i have ever read. your a genious, how did you figure that out? the more i look at the uk kids cover the more i love it, im glad that, that is the one i get.

Posted by ansu Mar 29th 2007

I love it! I wonder what they are reaching for or if they are trying to get something to choose to which one of them it is willing to come. Just speculating... :)

Posted by Rommel Mar 29th 2007

It's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !I can't wait for the book.

Posted by FentonForche Mar 29th 2007

People keep suggesting that the shadows of people in the background are those from beyond the veil, and that the curtains are the veil itself. That theory doesn't work--look at the jacket cover. The order of depth, from front to back, is curtain, then Voldemort, then the characters. If those curtains are the veil, then Voldemort (and probably Harry as well) are on the same side as all those figures in the background.

Posted by kingyouth412 Mar 29th 2007

Did anyone else notice the fact that you can't see Harry's scar in either any of the covers? Something's fishy 'round about these parts.

Posted by kingyouth412 Mar 29th 2007

To finish FentonForche's thought: "....meaning that both Voldemort and Harry go through the veil!" Brilliant theory, FentonForche!

Posted by rigby_child Mar 29th 2007

SWEET!! ...I wonder what they're reaching for.....hmm...

Posted by yoohhoo Mar 29th 2007

I've been waiting to post just to see what everyone has to say. So far I don't think anyone has mentioned that in the UK Childrens cover, within the gold and treasure there seems to be armor. Particularly a breastplate with a snake on it. Just curious as to who that might belong to wink wink*

Posted by Cate Mar 29th 2007

has anyone read the blurb on the uk edition? I realise lots of people must have but I haven't found any posts on it and it's one of the biggest spoilers we have had so far, since it tells us exactly what will happen...

Posted by RKRK1313 Mar 29th 2007

soo all the news sites and stuff are saying this book will be the first one to feature a wrap-around cover?? what is the difference between a wrap-around cover and what they usually are?

Posted by Cate Mar 29th 2007

I meant at the start of the story, not all of it

Posted by Clean0002 Mar 29th 2007

I am glad you saw it oo SiriusGirl, I am glad I am not going crazy. I think we should try to make ot to 2 thousand posts!

Posted by musichica_hpdevotion Mar 29th 2007

oh..my..gosh...trying not to hyperventilate...wow! so excited...full sentences can't be formed...yelled in the middle of class when i found out...i can hear the hallelujah chorus! there is a god!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by viki_hp_nerd Mar 29th 2007

i love it!

Posted by mandie2010 Mar 29th 2007

I still can't get over the fact that it's finally here, which means that the end is drawing nearer. I don't want it to be over!!! But I can't wait to read it though.

Posted by udo88udo Mar 29th 2007

i think that it is a vault at greengots that contained a horcrux and i dont knowif you all noticed but harry is wearing the slitheran necklaceso i wonder if the trio is carrying around what used to be the horci through out the book maybe being around them weakens voldemort kinda like pieces of the person a homonculi is made from in Full Metal Alchemist

Posted by megblack89 Mar 29th 2007

THIS IS MY THIRD COMMENT SORRY BUT JUST CLEARING UP ... * IT APPEARS DOBBY'S(?) OR AT LEAST A HOUSE ELF'S HAND * HARRY LOOKS LIKE HE'S WEARING A LOCKET (TO PROTECT HIMSELF OR DESTROY VOLDEMORTS LAST FRAGMENT OF SOUL WHEN HE ATTEMPTS TO KILL HARRY) * HIS SCAR IS THERE ON U.S, JUST UNCLEAR APPARENTLY I THINK THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME PLACE, LOOK AT THE ARCHES, AND THE ATMOSPHERE IS ORANGE.. ANYONE ELSE AGREE?

Posted by GREEK Mar 29th 2007

where the hell do you see a house elf's hand????

Posted by rex Mar 29th 2007

Okey, dunno if anybody noticed, (i cant possibly read all the thousand comments) but look at the top edge of the UK child cover, whats with the bisected circle-in-triangle thingie? the symbols are never random, thought not too important also, but still, WHAT is it? i don't have the books with me ( 'me mam' locked then coz of exams, sigh...) but in the OotP cover, i can remember a phoenix feather... other than that... OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGO MGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOM GOMGOMG! THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR!!! (goes and buries head in sand)

Posted by mugglequeen Mar 29th 2007

holy poop... July 21st here i come!

Posted by thesubways Mar 29th 2007

i want it sooo bad!! this is the first time that ron and hermoine have been featured on the cover...i also find it funny that though harry doesnt really look like dan radcliffe ron and hermoine look exactly like rupert grint and emma watson (random observation) harry definitely doesnt look too good...his robes are torn and he's got bruises all over and does kreacher ( or dobby) save harry??? omgomgomg going nuts dunno how i am going to wait till 21st july!!!!

Posted by jjroka Mar 29th 2007

i havnt read every single comment but iv looked through a few for ideas an im not sure if anyone has mentioned this but in the uk childrens ther is (what looks like) a houseelf or goblin could the trio be robbing gringotts lol an in the us version it looks like harry an voldy ar reaching for somethin could this have somethin to do with harry being a seeker ??? alsoooo this is the final step to the book nooooooo :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Posted by Ravenclaw_Prefect Mar 29th 2007

I think that the American version is really cool looking. The UK one looks really weird and always finds a way to make the characters look ugly.

Posted by SSWTB Mar 29th 2007

I really can't wait for July 21!!!!! GREEK, there is an elf's hand in UK Children Edition, just over Harry's head carrying the sword. Hmmmm., does this give some kind of a clue??? An elf with a sword.....hmmm.

Posted by EvaGo Mar 29th 2007

okay here is an objective summary of what we see on the covers: -- us-edition: there is a locket around harrys neck; harry and voldemort have no wands; there is a veil on the right and left sides; the color of the air is orange; there are shadows in the background (people or graves?); voldemort and harry look in the air and reach for something; we can't see harrys scar; the background looks like a colloseum or something like that; -- uk children edition: neither harry nor ron or hermione have a wand; they are standing in sth like a treasure and scaring sth; a houseelf sits on harrys shoulder with a sword in its hand; the background is orange, with an archway around; harry and hermoione have injuries on their arms; - hoghwarts is open and there is light inside; there is a snake in a crystal ball; there ist harrys stag-formed patronus (will it play a role again?); -- uk adult edition: we see a necklace with an S on it (probably slytherins) --- okay that was it... did i forget something?

Posted by fawkes_7 Mar 29th 2007

I'm sorry but I am part of the small minority of people who are deeply disapointed (I'm refering more to the UK edition, which I read). It's so childish! When I heard Deathly Hallows in made me feel the complete opposite of how this makes me feel. I am sooooo upset!! But anyways, the US edition is pretty awesome. Too bad I don't want the US edition!!!

Posted by fawkes_7 Mar 29th 2007

No, i have just looked at the full US book jacket and don't like that either. Oh well i guess it's the words that count...

Posted by NightStar Mar 29th 2007

Showed a friend the covers this morming, she thought they where orsome too., we also viewed the Today show tape again, the full U.S. book cover virsion is so big on mugglenet that it's hard to see the whole picture, but on the Today it was easy, we noticed that both harry and voldy both are looking in the same direction and both are holding their hands up with a slightly horrified look. so they are both looking at the same thing!! The book cover is fab it looks like and oil painting. I would love this on my wall.

Posted by Joshua21890 Mar 29th 2007

I agree Hel 6 i was expecting something more inspiring but either way its what in between the covers that counts.

Posted by shilpa Mar 29th 2007

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE COVERS LOOK RATHER MYSTERIOUS= CAN'T SAY ANYTHING

Posted by totalvirgo Mar 29th 2007

I'm excited that it is coming out, but its just so, light. This is suppose to be the dark finally, What happened?

Posted by Hilere Mar 29th 2007

Those things in the background of the US cover ... definietely Dementors in my opinion. This goes with the stag patronus on the UK cover. It also supports the theory that Harry will use dementors to destroy/suck out the remaining piece of Voldemort's soul.

Posted by christianaeg Mar 29th 2007

Oh yeah!!!!! Who guessed the american color theme?????? YEAH!!!!!!
