'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

You know what i think??? TODAY SHOULD BE INTERNATIONAL WEAR GOLD/YELLOW/ORANGE DAY!!! Yeah! It would rock! I'm already wearing a gold sweatshirt lol!

Posted by ginny_babe92 Mar 29th 2007

I personally don't like the US version; it's very bland and it doesn't make much sense... I suppose it will after we read it. I'm loving the UK version; it's so colourful and awesome! But what's with all the gold and treasure and stuff?? Anyway, it's very cool :D I like the adult edition too; Slytherin's locket!!! So excited :D

Posted by Giesha Mar 29th 2007

Great.Harry looks more handsome than in the other covers and the backround looks like the shield where Sirius fell through jus many times... : )

Posted by AzamasAzkaban Mar 29th 2007

did anyone notice that there seems to be an elf on harrys back on the uk childrens edition? holding a sword? that looks rather like godrick gryffindors......and also that that castle is clearly not hogwarts!!!!!!!! im thinking its somewhere that has all that treasure, thats on the front cover...........maybe its a founders old castle? or possible where voldemort is hiding or where a horcrux is? god this is so exciting imagine what its gonan be like when the actual book comes out, im soo gonna que at the shop for this one!! and then rush home to watch jk rowling read a chapter on tv ike she did with hbp

Posted by harrypotterforever Mar 29th 2007

The covers are better than I imagined! On the US children's edition, it appears to me that Harry has one green-blue eye and one brown eye. Does anyone else see the same thing I do?

Posted by bermuda_muggle Mar 29th 2007

OMG....just let me have the book already!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Realanis Mar 29th 2007

Wow, this is brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Love all the covers!

Excellent recap of the facts EvaGo 3! Of the forty clues and items of interest, I think the silver stag is the best clue into something we didn't know for sure and/or don't really have enough to come to useful conclusions. The silver stag is a patronus. It is also James, or at least it represents the part of Harry that is James. Soooooo... if Harry uses his patronus to do the normal things like ward of dementors and communicate with the order, does that make it cover material? PROBABLY NOT. Right? Not unless the whole book is about dementors, which I doubt. I'm thinking that it ties in with the title. If I keep thinking that the foreign title translations of Saints of Death mean that Hallows = "Saints" or "Spirits of the Dead Beyond the Veil", then I think the silver stag may mean one of two things: 1. It may BE James, to the extent that Harry is communicating with James on the other side of the veil, and that James, in the form of the silver stag, is helping Harry on this side of the veil. 2. It may still be Harry's patronus, but somehow he figures out how to get it to travel back and forth through the veil to carry information. I realize I'm working with pure speculation here, and that my imagination is pint sized and JKR's is ocean sized, but I needed to come up with a good reason why that stag is on the cover. It's playing an important role, and it has to be more important than just chasing off dementors.

Three points of speculation here - 1. That bit of curtain in the US version reminds me of the Veil - but on the OTHER side (no surrounding hall of mysteries); 2. In the high resolution image, it looks as thought Harry may still have his scar (does not mean much to have the scar, but would have been more revealing about the harry/horcrux if it definitely were missing), but he has some sort of locket around his neck (Slytherin's, no doubt); 3. All of those people in the stands - maybe it means nothing, but I would venture to guess that those are the deathly hallows - the hallowed magical souls of those who have previously died/passed through the Veil. Since everyone here is speculating (I have not read all 1000+ comments, so forgive me if I am repeating others' guesses), I suggest this represents the a final battle taking place beyond the Veil, with the deathly hallows there to judge who must stay and who may return. Without the wands, the battle will not be about magical mastery as about other traits the hallows value.

yall notice it's the same color as the curtain on Sorcerer's Stone cover though don't you?

SSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO CCCOOOOLLLLLL!!! That definately looks like Godric's sword that Ron's holding to me - it has the giant ruby! Does that mean he and the Weasleys are his heirs? JK hasn't discounted that theory has she? OMG can't think too excited! Looks like they've all fallen through that arch or tunnel into a pile of treasure after a fight. Maybe it's in Gringotts but is probably the site of another horcrux, probably the cup. What does that little triangular symbol mean? And the snakes in the crystal ball!!!!!????? OOOOOOHHHH can't wait!

Posted by Deadly Mar 29th 2007

rons not holding the sword a house elf is

Posted by ecniv08 Mar 29th 2007

this is bloody brilliant! i think that either dobby, kreacher, or any house-elf was the one at the back of harry holding the sword in the UK children version. i'm thinking that draco malfoy (not ron) is the one with harry and hermione there. the UK adult version is brilliant! love the design in the locket. no wands? oohhhh, creepy. maybe they're reaching for their wands there, hahah after being disarmed by snape (?) but then again, we still don't know that yet... this is just great... i'm dying to get my hands on that book!

Posted by freakinHEIGHTS Mar 29th 2007

QuitelyMe: ahhh just what i was thinking. very good, except now i dont have much to say. anyway, i think the curtain on US children's is definately the Veil. look at the frayed edges! just the way it is described in OotP. except, i believe it was described as being black. didnt someone say they could be on the other side of it? perhaps it is a diferent color there. or maybe the Veil is simply being illuminated by a sunrise/sunset? more likely a sunset. if this is the final battle, a sunset could be very symbolic. the end, but Harry still doing the wizarding world good, or something... anyway, i have always, like always, wondered about the curtain and the woman behind it on SS us children's cover. i believe its Jo, actually, and the Veil. Quantummilkshake: i do believe both curtains are the same color. im going to look and see if the first one is frayed as well. i also think the people in the background are the deathly hallows/souls behind the veil. the 'Coliseum' could actually be the death/veil room, with the roof gone. that would explain the sunset coming through. thats EXACTLY how i imagined the death/veil room!!! squueee i think im on to something.... anyway, whats around Harry's neck doesnt seem to be a locket. i have no clue what it could be. one last thing, if any obsessive theorizer has gotten this far in my examinations, which i doubt: ;)....: Voldy's hands/body are awfully strange and green. all shriveled up. does Mary Grandpre usually portray him this way? i believe Jo describes him as being pale whitish. i believe Voldy's discoloration could be due to his loss of Horcruxes. like at this point on the cover Harry has destryed every Horcrux, and Voldy is deteriorating, at his weakest point...and this would confirm my above theories: this is the scene of the final battle. these are very beautiful covers. seeing them, it really hit me: its all overin 4 months. on a final note: harrys eyes are green and if you look closely he has a scar.

Ahh I really can't wait until July! christianaeg: haha, I actually happen to be wearing yellow today!

Posted by noseynivers Mar 29th 2007

i luv it! hmm...i wonder what all that treasure means...well anyway....hermione and ron DO go with harry! great friends aren't they?

Posted by freakinHEIGHTS Mar 29th 2007

well looking at the SS us paperback the curtain on the back turns out to be green with blue swirls. it has a bit of orange shadowing though. there is a figure seated behind the curtain, wearing a robe of sorts. (she, presumably) is holding a lighted candle. if you study the background you will notice (a window) with stars. the curtain is actuaully rather thick and fluffy, and there is no way to tell if the edges are frayed, as you can see onlt the middle of it. disapointment, the SS curtain is nothing similiar to the DH US curtain. still, could the SS curtain hold any signifigance? we've never heard anything about it, but it has to mean something. even if its just a portrayal of Jo collecting her HP thoughts behind a curtain! (wtf???) anyway, does anyone have a clue when we should see the US deluxe cover realesed?

I like to keep a more stoic disposition when it comes to new, undefinite things to not seem over excited or fan girlish....but I am a fan girl. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE OMG OMG OMG EEEEEEEE SQUEEEEEEE! COVER ART! EDITOR CRIED! I'M SO EXCITED IN A HAPPY AND SAD WAY OMG THIS IS GOING TO BE SUCH A BOOK EEEEE! *ahem* ^_^;;; Cool. I think the cover art is plain (but I know it's to prevent from giving anything away!), but lovely.

Posted by Harrys_Ginny Mar 29th 2007

Er, is it just me, of if you look very closely, is that Dobby grabbing onto Harry with Godric Gryffindor's sword?????

Posted by Susan14 Mar 29th 2007

The UK art tells way more than the US (and still not much at all, since we don't know what's going on), but the characters look (no offense) incredibly ugly. x_x; I never thought the UK art looked so good, but wow, this is kinda startlingly weird looking. Harry's kinda handsome in the US version. I think the editor meant 'emotional' as in sad, because he sobbed, AND because Rowling said (not in so many words) that book 7 was practically going to be a slaughter. And how she killed off two characters and saved one, so at least two people will die. Wonder who was saved...?

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 29th 2007

juicy stuff from the editor... crying and crying. this means that i am going to b e sobbing! o no!!!!!!! i hope it isnt so sad tat i cant enjoy the book, althoughj i am sure it wont be but u never know... i am soooo excited!whew!

Posted by asleep_at_the_moment Mar 29th 2007

first id like to say that 608 pages is enough, i suppose. second, although the U S covers are usually poor, this one is slightly better. the U K childrens cover is the best cover out of all 21! i am impressed. when i saw it i thought "maybe they found Kreachers stash of treasure at grimmauld place!" but now im not so sure. as for the snake in the crystal ball, i was always sure that professor trelawney isnt all that fake, and really can see harry dying in the near future. hopefully she plays a vital role!

Posted by mugglehp Mar 29th 2007

OMG! This rocks ass! I cannot wait to see if my prediction is correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x x x x * Scene Queen * aka Natasha x

Posted by Lily_Hbp Mar 29th 2007

Quietme: I also think they are in the veil room and are in the final battle. Like a theather, they are reaching for probably the last test. And yes the shadows do look like they could be the Deathly Hallows. Notice how Harry is completly alone, and has that neckacle (it could be the Slytherin locket it does have an S on it, but it also looks like small leather bag, maybe carrying something to protect Harry - like Runes). Since we are all guessing, I think it could be the locket. It does look like a colliseum, but it could also be Hodric´s Hallow, Harry´s parents home (see how it has destroyed wood around it, and in SS it is described like that)...

OMG.....................i am going to pie in my pants

Posted by keri_potter Mar 29th 2007

i think people should be looking at the position of LV's right hand and Harry's left hand. it looks like harrys summoning something and LV is like "noooooooo" maybe trying to repel whatever harry has just summoned. anyways that was just something i noticed aside from gryffindors sword in ron's hand and the house elf on harry's back.

Posted by Topdogpenny Mar 29th 2007

ahhhhhh omg omg omg! we have everything now!! title, release date, cover . . . the next thing to come along will be the book!! :O:D x

Posted by Lily_Hbp Mar 29th 2007

and the WOMBATS I think they will have them soon! 31st of March was my guess from the RUNES in the Rubbish sections in JKR´s site...mmmm

Posted by infinity57401 Mar 29th 2007

i still think that the deathly hallows could be a place, but for some reason i feel it will have a double meaning anyways, the cover for the u.s. edition is fantastic, i couldnt believe it when i saw orange, i thought i was going to see black and red, oh well i am not disappointed. when the photo came out i was using adobe photoshop and put it on my computer and zoomed into the picture and im almost certain that harry doesnt have his scar, maybe it is in fact past the veil he loses the scar, just a thought. on the u.k. childrens cover ron, hermoine, and harry all look a little adult its kinda weird, but something is for sure on harry's back i thought i saw an ear that looked like an elf but i cannot say for sure. the u.k adults was really boring, as was the case for half blood prince, a locket with slytherins symbol on it, i know that it will play a major role, but the cover couldve been better without giving away any more information. i know im backing up other peoples opinions but i didnt get a chance to speak my mind right away since i was in class when this happened...

Posted by princessenr1 Mar 29th 2007

Okay...after an in-depth look at it, here is what I see... The person w/ the snake-like face (possibly Voldemort) is putting his hand in the air as if throwing something. Harry has his hand extended as if catching it, now thats interesting. If we look even closer, many shadows of people are standing around the stadium-like building. Now, if you saw that (or just found it from this) lets wonder what Mary GrandPre has depicted for us!

Posted by PotterManic Mar 29th 2007

Oh crap! I live in the UK (well around there anyway) and now I'm stuck with this ridiculous looking cover. The US version looks incredible. I hope that what it lacks in cover-art it will make up for in a good book. If it doesn't >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >:

Posted by potterluvinmama Mar 29th 2007

I want to know what horrible thing happens to make a grown man "sob and sob." From the looks of the US cover, Harry and LV are both warding something off (but no wands). What could be bad enough that both Harry and LV are afraid of it?!?

Posted by mrpotter Mar 29th 2007

Wow!On the UK kids version,it shows someone pulling the Trio backwards! It looks like a house elf, cause you can see the ears.

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 29th 2007

on the us version it looks like both harry & voldimort are reaching for something.. could it be a horcrux????????

Posted by BaldEMort Mar 29th 2007

I've just noticed, in the US children version Harry IS WEARING a necklace. Maybe it is Slythering's Locket!!!

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 29th 2007

baldEmort u probably right

Posted by Lily_Hbp Mar 29th 2007

Has anyone noticed the Forest might be on fire in the UK Childrens Edition. There is also Snow on "Hogwarts" if it is Hogwarts... and I think Smoke coming out of it ???? Also, I agree that Harry is summoning something and LV is trying to he is ward it off . And LV does seem to be loosing there... Look at Harry´s expression.... it is like he is concentrated and not scared. He is expecting, excited... Voldemort looks worried and maybe not so fierce...mmmm... What do you guys think ???

Posted by LucyGoosey Mar 29th 2007

Yeah, Im sure the US version is the veil-the room in the Dept of Mysteries is described as an amphitheatre! So it must be! I also really like the colours on the UK children's version!!

Posted by Lily_Hbp Mar 29th 2007

I have to check my book...but it does seem like the veil room in the DOM! But Why is the entrance destroyed ????

Posted by xxcrazedpotterfanxx Mar 29th 2007

It think it looks great! I can't wait for this book!

Posted by DialMforMagic Mar 29th 2007

Y-E-S! Awesome, I was on a book site and noticed there HP section for DH suddenly had an image. I thought maybe it was a temporary but I'd never seen it before... Yay! So happy, not completely sold on the orange but I love the UK version. I love all three!

Posted by Leticia_Grint Mar 29th 2007

MY GOD. The american edition is BEAUTIFUL. I thought it'd be something darker, like purple or black, but that orange is really gorgeous. I never like the UK covers...it seems like the trio is 30 years old =P. But the adult edition...wow...speechles s.

Posted by periculum Mar 29th 2007

LOVE IT! Ahh, don't you all wish that we were back at the beginning again?!

Posted by Lily_Hbp Mar 29th 2007

Descripcion from OOTP pg 709 (ebook) Fits the US cover if you ask me... THE DEATH CHAMBER IN THE DOM This room was larger than the last, dimly lit and rectangular, and the centre of it was sunken, forming a great stone pit some twenty feet deep. They were standing on the topmost tier of what seemed to be stone benches running all around the room and descending in steep steps like an amphitheatre, or the courtroom in which Harry had been tried by the Wizengamot. Instead of a chained chair, however, there was a raised stone dais in the centre of the pit, on which stood a stone archway that looked so ancient, cracked and crumbling that Harry was amazed the thing was still standing. Unsupported by any surrounding wall, the archway was hung with a tattered black curtain or veil which, despite the complete stillness of the cold surrounding air, was fluttering very slightly as though it had just been touched.

Posted by talkinmonkey Mar 29th 2007

I like the US and UK adult cover the best but US: this is the first time the scar is not clearly visible. Also neither have wands(must mention it again) UK childrens: I was told in the top of the spine on the childrens always have something significant so why is it a triangle with a circle in it? (book one had Dumby book six had a ring...)

Posted by Elriowiel Mar 29th 2007

I truly love it!!! I just can't wait to get it!

Posted by DialMforMagic Mar 29th 2007

Ok- I already commented on being excited and my love for all three covers- Time for theories! Does one of the clouds just behinds Harry's reaching hand on the full (back and front) cover image kinda look like a Dragon, probably just artistic fun. I think the expressions on the UK childrens version are very important, Ron looks as though he's been shoved and Hermion is terrified perhaps being pulled? Or Maybe she's dropped something and was reaching? All of them look as if they are reaching for something... hmmm- Horcruxes? And none of the three covers have wands on them. Also on US childrens Harry appears to have a pouch around his neck, perhaps holding something important? Can't hardly wait!

Posted by Elriowiel Mar 29th 2007

there is a goblin on harry back holding a sword on the cover of the childerens edition england what is that al about??? i'm so curious
