Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:
"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.
"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."
When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:
"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"
"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

WHOA. I was totally blown away by the UK cover. kinda nice that it drops a couple of hints alomg the way... the US cover is totally not like anything i was imagining. i guess that is a good things... i can barely type! it is soo different!
Here are my two cents: The US cover could very well be somewhere near the veil, or possibly beyond the veil seeing the shadows behind it. Harry has a look of triumph on him while voldemort looks at harry with a hint of intimidation? If this is indeed beyond the veil, then voldemort would have all the reason to be scared, seeing his worst fear is death. Neither of them has wands in their hands, so that could reinforce the fact that they are not dueling, and not in a place where dueling is on their minds. The shadows in the back... they could be just random souls passed beyond the veil, or they could be some people of importance? Anyway, some people mentioned if harry dies, he'll become a ghost. I don't think this i likely. First of all I do not think harry will die. (Yes, I know I just said they could be beyond the veil, but before we can confirm all people pass beyond the die, we can't judge the fate of harry that lightly. Maybe for a prepared mind, the veil is nothing but a journey to the afterlife. Voldemort obviously wasn't prepare to fall through the veil, neither was Sirius). Well, Harry will not be a ghost if he dies because he knows the danger he's in, and he's always ready to sacrifice his life for his friends and to rid the world of voldemort. Death to him is not unprepared for. Regarding UK cover, they are obviously trying to retrieve the locket from the Black family's vault. Harry's the heir, he can enter. However, Kreacher may be a bit of niusance. Bellatrix could have sent him to get the locket before Harry does. And that's probably him holding that sword. It'll be an interesting adverture seeing Harry and Hermione are both bruised on their arms. While they are inside, there's probably some sort of duel happening between the the order and the DEs. And I would be pleased if a couple of death eaters get eaten by dragons trying to retrieve the locket from the Black vault before Harry does.
I'd hoped Harry would marry Ginny and have Ron and Hermoine and the Weasley's as his family. But maybe Jo is reuniting Harry with his real family - in death :( I hope not but Levine said HE sobbed! Not a good sign...
Seriously, didn't anyone expect it to be darker than this? I mean come on, Deathly Hallows. Not Voldemort and Harry watching a Sunset together and giving eachother high fives...
I like the American version, and the UK adult version, though I have to admit the UK kid's version isn't all I thought it would be. I think it is awsome and gives away many hints as to what the book is. I think it is very interesting how on the book back it says harry leaves the burrow, not Privite Drive, like usual. I think that this is kinda obscure in the fact that it gives away two things: Harry Does NOT go to Hogwarts to attend his 7th year completly, and Harry does not want help. I think it is really interesting about the UK Adult version that the cover is Slytherine's locket, so I think that the book might be heavly based on that horcrux, and that one will be the pivital horcrux, of course, I have no idea, but that is my thinking. And the Viel that looks kind of like it is being displayed in the US and UK kid's version is also kind of interesting. Okay, now I am ranting. I am just too excited!
I think they all look cool, could the curtains on the US cover and the archway in the British version mean a trip through the archway that sirius fell through in the department of mysteries for Harry??
The First time I think the American cover is better than the U.K. Also what the hell does harry have around his neck
omg, when you see the ENTIRE US cover jacket, the cover is SO MUCH BETTER. As a whole, I realized I like the US cover so much! =D The UK version is brilliant! So artistic and detailed! But when I see the entire work to be the cover of the book, I looooove it. :)
imy first thought on the UK children's one was that the trio had found treasure in hogwarts, because hogwarts is shown on the back cover
wow!! i can't wait to read it!!!
Did anyone notice the houseelf behind Harry that's holding the sword? I thought it was Ron holding it at first, but you can se another hand on Harry's back. So, what's the houseelf doing there?
Don't like the UK children's version. Harry looks like he's thirty! But I am glad Hermione got to be on the cover! US looks great, don't usually like them, UK adult's locket is awesome
OMGOSH the cover is awsum!! not wat i expected but it makes me even more curious...grr cant it jus b out tmrw!! lol but wat the..?? the page count for the UK version is shorter than GOF!! i thought it was longer...so annoyed at that!!
if you look @ the us version harrys wearing a necklace resempling the locket? could it be?
OMG Nahald i saw the house-elf hand thing.. wow...maybe its dobby helping the trios....AND i think that the treasure surrounding them in the children's UK version is when they're looking for Ravenclaw's and Hufflepuff's horcrux....coz they're treasures...
AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Finally!!! I can't believe it has finally come to this point!!! I love the cover, it really looks kinda majestic, worthy to be the cover of the last book! I love the colours! Wow, I wonder why is Harry holding his hand up? Is he catching something? Hmmmm... The only thing is that I am now completely confused about the length of the book. They mixed it all up. I'm from Croatia so I have no idea how long the book's going to be in our version. Wish it was a 1000 pages!:) OK, now all we've got left is the BOOK ITSELF!!! Can't wait!!!:):):):):):):)
wheeee!!!!! its finally out!
what is this? this cover is awful. the american and the english. it says nothing. it's like saying "this book is about harry potter." worst cover of the series. what a letdown. um and...no, i hate this.
where is his scar?
My tally of things that may be a part of the plot: US version Harry has no scar Harry is wearing a locket Harry and Voldy both have same robes on (doubt it's a big deal) Possibly people or ghosts in the background under the colluseum thing Pretty sure his eyes are still green but look a bit bluish UK version Kreacher has a ruby encrusted sword (omg omg) and is attacking Harry UK adult version has a picture of Slytherin's locket If anyone has anymore please point them out
I love all of harry potter books and movies so if the book cover is creepy and scary that means the book is going to be good and a great mystery ill be reading it
This UK childrens cover is the weirdest, tackiest one yet.....
If you look behind Harry in the UK children's you'll see some kind of elf wielding a sword. I think it's a house elf. It could either be Dobby, Kreacher or Winky.
Does the full moon in the UK childrens cover mean anything? Is Harry going to get mauled by Greyback? Or will Voldy get mauled by Lupin?
Okay, the US one obviously has something to do with the veil and I think that Harry and Voldemort are fighting beyond it.(I don't think that the veil actually KILLS you.) Gold and yellow have been reoccuring colors throughout the books since book 1, so there's obviously some symbolism there. The peeple in the background are spirits/ghosts/dead people and Harry and Voldy are doing wandless magic. Harry has no scar because it has something to do with the horcruxes .(though I'm fairly certain that Harry's scar is NOT a horcrux.)
hmm...well...hmm....I think though the UK children cover is very telling and excellent for speculating, it's a bit too colourful for a book called "DEATHLY Hallows"...creepy title and then, this kinda lurid, very childish cover?! the US one looks more suitable and the artist is definitely better than the UK one...don't know what to think about it, I only know that I want this book right now;-)
My 2 cents worth... The UK version shows Kreacher with the sword as the trio is breaking into/thrown into ... Kreachers room where he has been stashing the Black family heirlooms. They bruises on Harry and Heromine show us that they have been fighting prior to this event. On the US cover I think Harry and Volte are both reaching for something, trying to get it before the other. The whole behind the veil thing is cool. July can not come fast enough.
You can see his scar its just really light (I think?). The American cover isn't as good as usual but its pretty awesome. The UK kids one has a lot more detail but its TACKY!!!!! Harry doesn't look anything like himself and Ron and Hermione are wearing weird clothes. The adult UK is pretty cool, kind of boring.
Love US cover! Has anyone thought that the snake in the children's cover might be a reference to the object Dumbledore uses in book 5 after the attack on Mr. Weasley when Dumbledore misteriously says "IN ESSENCE DIVIDED".
I don't know how J.K.R. is going to fit all of those horcruxes into one book. I wish it was like a zillion pages *sigh*. Oh well, at least its almost hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yipee!!!! Can't wait!!!!!!
Some great comments here! Keep those coming! Now to the cover scene: Could that be the mysterious graveyard Alfonso Cuaron mentioned in the POA DVD? It seems there is a graveyard somewhere at Hogwards and probably the legendary school founders are burried there??? Furthermore Hogwarts's ancient graveyard could be a place of magical power where Voldy chose to hide some of his deadly Horcruxes... Perhaps the entrance to this sinister place can only be gained through some creepy magic, something that works like the room of requirement??? Maybe Slitherin created some sort of secret, private graveyard of his own, like he created the chamber of secrets? Would be so much like him to single himself out even in death and his Locket is needed to get inside the place? Maybe the shadows in the back are either shadows of departed souls not unlike what showed up after the "Priori Incantatem" took place in the Riddle Graveyard or these are tombstones... The locket seems to be pivotal to the final plot but is it Slytherin's Locket for sure? Why is Harry wearing it around his neck almost like a Talisman? Could it be that Harry keeps the Horcrux that used to dwell in him (in his scar) now inside the locket and he needs it for the final battle. Maybe some strange and unknown magic will have to be used in order to vanquish Lord Voldemort once and for all. The house elf holding the sword in the UK children's version might indeed be Dobby as Harry will need all the help he can get to track down Voldemort's Horcruxes. Cause if I were Harry, I would not trust Kreacher to battle alongside me any my faithful friends, would I? That's all for now:-)
OMG! the UK cover is really cool!! I'm probably wrong but my guess is that Harry is Gryffindor's heir as there are so many rubies in that treasure plus it looks like its Gryffindor's sword behind Harry AND all that armour.... Possibly Godric Gryffindor left all this to Harry...... as a way to face Salazar Slytherin's heir: Voldemort.
Am I the only one who thinks Harry n Voldy are fighting side by side in the US cover?! I mean I think it a vision of somekind seen "through the veil" judging by the curtains, but maybe they are fighting a higher power, IE possibly snape?! Just a thought.
so beautiful!
kcsmuse- yeah good thought they could eb fighting side by side but i dont think against snape..lol i mean voldy could easily kill him with a lazy flick of the wand....
kcsmuse - I think they are both reaching out for something, or even working together, because Voldy is DEFINITELY NOT looking at Harry....and his hands are on a completely different eyeline
LightOfLumos wrote: Seriously, didn't anyone expect it to be darker than this? I mean come on, Deathly Hallows. Not Voldemort and Harry watching a Sunset together and giving eachother high fives... ---- OMG lol that is so funny! Voldy and Harry giving eachother high fives.... omgsh that is really funny. I hadn't looked at it like that. I doubt they are, but man, that is funny. And to answer - yes I did think that the US cover would be much darker than what we got, which is why I did not like it when I first saw it. But it only took me about an hour to decide that I actually did like it!! So yeah I do like it now. I donno about the UK childrens cover, though. It's alright, but it does give some very big hints that the US one doesn't give.
OMG! I'm SO excited!!!!! I prefer the UK to be honest, but never mind!!! OMG OMG!!!!
Its interesting how they have curtains for the closing act just like in the first book they had curtains on the cover for the 1st book or "opening act". AHHH i can't wait!!
Perhaps Harry is tossing away the Prophecy since his hand is in an open position, and Gryffindor is triumphant! (hence the red and gold colors in the US version.) Now I'm convinced that there are 3 shadows breaking the line of light on the back of the UK children's cover.....
wow what to say?? well i love the american version..superb!! the uk adult version is also ver nice...it shows how the locket will work. but i dont really love the childrens uk version..i mean it shows that somethign like that might happen in the story....but it simply isn't like all the others... anyway could the picture on the american book be the room with the viel??? CANT WAIT!!!!
The sword on the UK kids cover looks like Gryfindor's, maybe he had armor too and thats what that armor is.
It kind of looks like Harry is trying to catch something. I. Can. Not. Wait. To read this book!!!!!!!!! Why do they have to take so long? * wailing and crying * Why Not in April?!?!?!?!? I guess I'll just have to read FanFic till then. * sigh *
RenFestUnicyclistAccordia nPlayer ---- I love your comments name! It's awesome. :) Anywho, yeah it does look like he is trying to catch something, but I liked LightOfLumos's idea of Voldy and Harry giving eachother high fives!! hahah I mean I know that is definately NOT what's happening, but it's funny. I also read a theory that Harry and Voldy are working together, but really, could that EVER happen? No.
I'm starting to think that castle on the back of the UK Kids cover isnt Hogwarts. It looks like theres some snow (?) piled on to the back of the castle. I think cold is gonna have something to do with it, because of the snow on the castle, and on the UK Kids cover, there is a snake in a ball. Half of that snake is frozen. I must say, I am mystified...
OMG I JUST HAD A THOUGHT!!! I WAS READING A POST ABOUT POSSIBLY THE BACK OF THE UK KIDS BEING ABOUT DEMENTORS? AND REMEMBER WHEN JKR SAID THE 3RD BOOK MADE HER CRINGE BECAUSE OF THE HINTS??? i think the ice of the dementors made her cringe. i think the 7th book will have to do ALOT with dementors.
hpintwense06- Thanks :). It looks like they left off part of the words on the back of the UK kids cover, theres kind of a big empty space.
hmm...reading other posts, and someone saw this...idk what it could mean, but heres the link: http://altreligion.about. com/library/texts/bl_seve nthmoses.htm it talks about the 7th book of moses, and something about RAB
i don't like them that much but i still find them amazing and i can't believe it's coming so fast!!!!!
I have anagrams! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Hey! Harry Traps Death At Low, End of H*ll Deathly Hallows: Who? Death's Ally Who? Death's Ally could mean "who is going to die? Voldemort!" Voldemort could be considered an ally of death....
