'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

On the front of the UK cover, Harry is going after a helmet and breast-plate. Those silvery blue things. The helmet has a little dragon on it.

Posted by domp Mar 28th 2007

WOW! Not what I expected.... but WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Potternuts Mar 28th 2007

Did anyone notice the clothes the trio are wearing looks kinda..different?

Posted by jessbe Mar 28th 2007

harry's wearing a necklace... oh wait it must be the locket ;) and i agree with a previous post, is harry's scar gone on the us version?? i dont care for the uk version but all in all- AWESOME!!

Posted by iliveforharry Mar 28th 2007

oh boy! it looks like voldemort v. harry with death eaters in the back OMG!

Posted by browncoat Mar 28th 2007

The page count difference between US edition and UK edition might be big, but it has no effect whatsoever on word count. :) I've posted a few times here but I don't think I've given my thoughts on the UK cover, which I'll be getting here in Australia (hello all you Australians staying up late!). At first I found the new illustration style a little too different, but after waiting for about one whole hour for it to load, I think I'm starting to like it! I'm excited!!

Posted by Tara188 Mar 28th 2007

I really like the US cover! I like the back of the UK cover (the castle)...the front I'm not so sure about.

Posted by British_Boy Mar 28th 2007

Sooooo exciting.... and it's interesting that Ron is holding the sword!!!!!

Posted by thshadow Mar 28th 2007

FLIPPIN' SHWEET! Has anyone except me curious about the absence of his scar?

Posted by chommy Mar 28th 2007

Whoooooa! The cover for the UK/Canadian Version scares me! Harry looks 30, and Ron and Hermione look nothing like themselves. This is the first time in the UK edition of the books that the trio appeared on the cover, right?

Posted by Lorraineish Mar 28th 2007

oh my goodness!!!!!!!! I just saw it on the Today show!!! Voldemort looks amazing. I wonder what all those heads in the background are for.... Death Eaters? I LOVE THE COLOR!!!!!!!

Posted by VickyMalfoy Mar 28th 2007

these covers really say alot...there goes my third letter to J.K. Rowling

Posted by bwof Mar 28th 2007

Okei " browncoat" but can you then tell me why there is such a page difference between the two versions?

Posted by Strider_of_Eire Mar 28th 2007

I'm sitting here, with goosebumps of pure joy breaking out all over my body. I'm getting the UK childrens ed. and looking at it straight away, love the colouring and artwork. Having then checked the american full cover, I can honestly say for the first time ever, that it is brilliant also. Does anyone think some text was not shown on the back of the uk edition? just seems too bare to me.

Posted by HPFAN2006 Mar 28th 2007

In the UK KIDS cover, an ELF can be seen holding a sword, seemingly riding on Harry's back.. IS THAT DOBBY??? I hope so.... And what about the background stone structure...??? Is that the death chamber... If it is, then where is the VEIL...??? And from where so much of GOLD came...??? And why is HOGWARTS shown in the back cover...??? And why some of the clouds are dark... Is it another "Lighting struck Tower"??? I PRAY NOT.... UK Adult cover is too good... JUST big SLY's LOCKET, with the ORNATE "S"... The US cover is also good... Looks like some sort of ARENA... Is that the DEATH CHAMBERS... and VOLDY looks menacing...

Posted by browncoat Mar 28th 2007

bwof , because the US edition uses a large font, and I believe they also get chapter illustrations. Things like that make a book longer. :)

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 28th 2007

Bwof - did Bloomsbury formally reveal the number of pages? Because I don't think they did. It said 608 pages for a long while... even before the Scholastic said 784 for the US edition.

Posted by tonks58 Mar 28th 2007

WOW finally. i doesn't even seem real... as always the UK child cover leaves me asking myself lots of questions. is that an elf holding what look to me as gryffindors sword?? where are they? are those things dragons?? im soooo happy :D

Posted by priyananda Mar 28th 2007

The covers are amazing! But isn't the difference in the number of pages of the US and the UK version quite large? Do the Americans get an extra chapter or something? :D

Posted by chommy Mar 28th 2007

OMG! I just noticed the elf on Harry's back! It'd be awesome if Dobby came along!

Posted by Ben125 Mar 28th 2007

The American version is alright... not very interesting, and I'm disappointed in the colour (orange doesn't seem appropriate for a book called The Deathly Hallows, it should be darker and more mysterious). The UK adult version is alright as well, but a bit boring - the locket isn't very impressive. The UK children's version, though, is just... atrocious. It looks like a trashy fantasy illustration, and that's never how I've thought of the series. It's tacky and bawdy, and it looks a mess. I've always previously bought the children's version, but I'd be ashamed to carry that around with me. There are some terrifically talented illustrators around in the UK, and it's shameful that they've settled for such a visually appalling, off-putting design.

Posted by scribbulus Mar 28th 2007

They're all hideous! Shame. Looks like Grandpre accidently vomited on the US cover art and smeared it in hoping no one would notice.

Posted by loris Mar 28th 2007

the difference of pages is probably due to the fact that british DH is written in a smaller format than HBP: OOTP writing, e.g., is also smaller than HBP or GOF...

Posted by DA_Spartan Mar 28th 2007

THESE ARE AMAZING!!! There is so much more to talk about with all the different images on all the covers! Spaaartans?...AHHOO AHHOO

Posted by AnyaMarcos Mar 28th 2007

It's better than you could ever do, scribbulus. It's easy to criticize when you have no talent of your own.

Posted by dumbledore99 Mar 28th 2007

Why are the trio all cut and bruised in the UK version? And is that Dobby with Gryffindor's sword?

Posted by Smarty_Roxy Mar 28th 2007

MUGGLECAST YOU HAVE TO DO A SHOW ON THIS, BOTH THE US AND UK VERSIONS OF THE COVERART!!! Anyways, this is excellent. 604 pages is not nearly enough in my opinion, but if Jo says it is, than I'm as happy as anyone. I love the adult coverart, I might get that one. The locket is beautiful!

Posted by bwof Mar 28th 2007

Aaargh, the uk cover makers should take a leaf out of America´s book and follow suit and add chapter illustrations into the uk book as well, then. But thank you for the answer ;).

Posted by dumbledore99 Mar 28th 2007

Oh, and I think Harry does have his scar. Its just to the left of his nose on the UK version, I think its obscured by his hair on the US version. and where do we think all the gold and treasure came from. Gringotts anyone?

Posted by jspino27 Mar 28th 2007

Is it just me, or in the full shot does it look like Harry and Voldemort are actually working together against something?

Posted by Lady_Delphinea Mar 28th 2007

The UK one has less pages because the US one has illustrations in it - hence the page number difference. The UK one is the same as the US one, only without the pictures, so it isn't a big drama. However I love all the covers and I think once you read the book you'll understand what the pictures mean. So can't wait!!!!

Posted by pigwidgeon Mar 28th 2007

is this some kind of joke? i can't believe this. the uk cover is just wrong. why!?!?? my week has been ruined.

Posted by csapc Mar 28th 2007

rawrrrr. yesss! i like the us version.. the kid UK is kind of cartoon-y and the adult UK looks just like some boring boks my da reads except if you know thats the locket i guess it does add fun. the US version is BEAUTIFUL. whats harry wearing around his neck though?

Posted by de_lycanthrope Mar 28th 2007

AWESOME!!! This makes me wonder though, because the Dark Lord isn't even looking at Harry, let alone trying to kill him. I smell a conspiracy...

Posted by smellysocks Mar 28th 2007

oh my lord almighty absolutely love the UK version love how its Harry, Ron and Hermy on the cover love it, love it, love it!!! i'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by potthead7140 Mar 28th 2007

so are those PEOPLE or are they TOMBS? idk. what are they looking at? idk. and so is that colloseum thing they are in the DEATHY HALLOWS, a place. idk. they have no wands! are they gonna ARM WRESTLE???!?!?!? IDK!!! but i can tell you one thing. the freakin US versions KICKS *bad word for bottom*. the UK version doesnt leave any room for (cant think of word) for discussion, you know, AH THAT WORD, why pick apart it all and theorize what it means??!?!?? the uk version. i mean. gold gold rubies and the sword.. altho the sword is a good touch... I CANT FINISH. AHHHH. MY RIDE TO SCHOOL IS HEAR i will come back.. YAY WOOOO

Posted by hpfan20 Mar 28th 2007

YYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! !!!! that is so freaking awesome! ~squeals and screams~

Posted by pigwidgeon Mar 28th 2007

*groans loudly* right. it's not an april fools joke. i might actually have to consider buying the adult edition. i don't care if it doesn't match my other books. i have always said that the uk covers are way better than the us ones but i think for once that is definitely not true.

Posted by dumbledore99 Mar 28th 2007

csapc: good point. Maybe its the locket horcrux!! Remember when Dumbly wore the ring after he took it from the Gaunt's house? Maybe Harry is doing something similar? Also, are they people in the background. they look like heads and shoulders. I would say that they are statues, but they aren't evenly spaced. I reckon they're death eaters, like in the graveyard bit in GoF. And maybe the broken stuff in the foreground is the result of a duel, when Harry and Voldy lost their wands? And is that nagini in the snow-globe thing on the UK cover (far right). Maybe shes imprisoned somehow, and that must be harry's patronus on the left, so theres dementors, and is the full moon significant?

Posted by nat089 Mar 28th 2007

AAAAHHH!!!! Oh my gosh! The covers are BEAUTIFUL! I love them all! I want the book like NOW! Can't wait for July!

Posted by bwof Mar 28th 2007

@ Quiscalus; yes Bloomsbury has confirmed it according to mugglenet and hpana.com. Just got a bit frutrated at first but as long as the text is the same I try to remain calm. lol.

Posted by DA_Spartan Mar 28th 2007

Is it just me or does the US version look like Harry and Voldey are in a Colosseum battle with spectators in the background? Spartans?. ..AHHOO AHHOO

Posted by NoOneWouldListen Mar 28th 2007

I was right! The cover's red! (Or at least the boards (under the dust jacket) will probably be. They look like (in the US cover) like they're both trying to catch something that's falling.

Posted by anglophile_bibliophile Mar 28th 2007

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGO MGOMG!!!!!! My friend texted me and told me and I got on right away and it is AWESOME!!!!!!! OMG! I wonder what that thing is in the background.... hmmm.... I'm soooooo excited!!!!!!!!! FREAKOUT!!!!!!!

Posted by melz8 Mar 28th 2007
