'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

Posted by king_snape Mar 28th 2007

608 was the page count on Waterstones website weeks ago!! It was only a random number!!!! There is no confirmation on the Bloomsbury website of what the page count is!!!! It will be nearer 708 than 608!

This Is what I think after closely watching the Cover of Mary Grand Pre , The cover takes place in a coliseum or a stadium on a Sunny day , this makes me assume that there is a battle there ( maybe the Final one ? ) Some Dark people are watching , Harry looks confident and Voldemort is gonna chase him soon , But Harry will prevail , why do I say that ? Because again it is a sunny day ( Sunset) and that has always been a sign of good things . Harry is also looking for something from above to come...Fawkes ?? Voldemort is trying to stop him from receiving it...he looks very damaged...maybe all the Hoxcruces have been destroyed and that has hurt him. Great Cover for the great end of a great Series.

Can someone point out where the house-elf is? I can't find it! I'm not sure if Harry wearing the locket means that he has the real one (though if it shows the final encounter with Voldemort, then he probably has). At the end of HBP, he carried the fake locket with him "not as a talisman, but as a reminder of what it had cost, and what still remained to be done", or something like that... maybe he just wears the fake one for that reason... just a theory! The red colour in the background of the UK cover somehow makes me think that the treasure is in some way connected with Godric Gryffindor... I don't think it would be Gringotts, because they look to freaked to just be visiting the bank! Maybe it's a hidden chamber in Hogwarts or something. Also, the amphitheatre thing Harry and Voldemort are standing in kind of reminds me of the room in the Department of Mysteries in which Sirius died - we haven't yet found out much about that room, and Jo did say in an interview that there is a room that Harry once visited, but does not yet know the significance of... mabe we have already seen that in HBP, or it's somewhere completely different, but you never know! I also think the fact that the cover reads "he must leave the 'companionship' of the Burrow" might mean that he briefly gets back together with Ginny before setting off again... The picture of Hogwarts may mean that the trio will return briefly; Jo did say something about a graveyard in Hogwarts playing an important part in the series - we haven't seen it yet, so this must be in Book 7. Also, is it just me, or do Harry and Voldemort not seem to be fighting each other on the US version? They are both looking in another direction, and both holding their hands up as though casting a spell of some sort... they're probably being distracted by something pretty urgent! It looks like there is a fire in the background, and the scence looks pretty trashed. That's most of my analysis anyway! Sorry its so lon...

Posted by ryuubi Mar 28th 2007

DL US COVER and I did a up close and saw Harry have something around his neck in like a small pouch?!? They are both looking at the same thing IN the SKY. It looks like a bunch a people around them and tthey might be Death Eaters. Maybe Voldie had captured Potter and then made him duel with him. In like a stage setting. As the is rubble on the ground?????!!!!?????

Posted by arwen21 Mar 28th 2007

Great covers.....so much mystery....I can't wait to get my hands on DH!!

Posted by adri278 Mar 28th 2007

Wow, I love that we have three covers to dissect and analyze until the book comes out. I was hoping the US cover would be black, but I still like the one we got. I wonder if those people in the background are death eaters or good guys. Or both. The children's UK is puzzling. Where is all that treasure? Dobby on Harry's back with Godric's sword? I can't wait!

Posted by scotishking57 Mar 28th 2007

ron is not holding a sword its either an elf or a goblin and im pretty sure its an elf cause of the ears u have to look closely behind harrys right shoulder but its there

Posted by Cooper2085 Mar 28th 2007

If anyone can read my message please have a look at US cover again and tell me if my eyes are playing tricks on me. Harry has one hand forward and one back, looking up at something out of reach. ---- Voldy has both hands in front of him as though he is stepping backwards. ---- Are we looking at the scene that finally shows snapes true loyalties? Something along the lines of----------------- SNAPE: NO DONT TOUCH THE BOY! VOLDY: HOW DARE YOU! SNAPE: Harry push him through the vail and grab my hand. HARRY: WHAT???? SNAPE: Harry Please........----------- ------------------------- Then harry pushes him voldy staggers and harry reaches out?

Posted by Doxybiter_DH_ Mar 28th 2007

Please, people! How can the UK version be 608 of length?! Why is the difference with the US one 174 pages? With HBP, the difference was: 608 - 668, 60 pages! Why is the difference almost thrice the previous difference?:\ Maybe it's not official or it was orignially a typo and it's actually 708...? Well, someboody ought to have shot it down by now if that was the case... Btw, it IS indeed intruiging that there are no wands anywhere on any of the covers... and I really do love the image of the locket:)

Posted by K8y Mar 28th 2007

Oh, thanks guys - I see it now! I wonder whether it's Kreature, Dobby or (countering my earlier theory) a Gringotts elf... too many theories! Arrgghh! I've just been looking at the other symbols on the UK cover - I think that some of them may be Horcruxes... though there are no cups or anything. What could they be there for? I'm so confused!

Posted by Thephoenixlament12 Mar 28th 2007

Sooo when I only saw the front cover of the book I thought to myself "meh." A little less analyzation was neccessary for this cover. BUT THEN, I look at the full cover and I literally screamed. Voldemort has never earned himself a spot on the full cover has he? But for some reason, I don't feel like the cover is the final battle between Voldemort and Harry. Although they are reaching for something. I do think the people in the background are death-eaters and it greatly concerns me that Harry is alone.

Posted by ryuubi Mar 28th 2007

I see it is like Voldie is not catching something more like 'get away or NNNoooo' and Harry is more like 'ok I can do this'.

Posted by DaveyFoSho Mar 28th 2007

Is it just me or does Harry look like a 40 year old man in the UK version. Great covers though.

Posted by K8y Mar 28th 2007

Thephoenixlament12 3 - I agree; I always thought that Harry would face Voldemort alone, but the distinct lack of Ron and Hermione makes me panic! If Jo kills Harry or the others, I will never forgive her!

Posted by fgm Mar 28th 2007

WOW!!! excited

Posted by normalac Mar 28th 2007

I really like the US version but Im not satisfied with the UK version, adult and children. But really MG has done it again!

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

aaahhh cool..ive been waiting fo rhtis for ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!cool.. .i wil get the uk version of course...the us one looks good but i thin the uk one is better....and it showed us the blurb....obviously then harry will have to be escorted from privet drive...oooooohhhhhh i wonder whats going to happen...i saw this on the tv and screamed with delight...i got funny looks of people but hey...i carried on im soooooooo excited!wwwwooooooo you can see something holding a sword behind harry..its not a human as the hand looks more of a elf or goblin hand...but look closely there are ears....i think it could possible be dobby..he could be involved in the last book..... on the uk version on the back is the pic of hogwarts which possible means that they will visit hogwarts again....and the gold....i dont think it would be related to gringotts..but i had a thought that the order could gain the goblins on out side against voldy.....as it is described that they contain powerful magic..they could be useful...maybe the gold is in a secret room in hogwarts maybe????? dunno but im sure it has somesignificance..the us version....voldy and harry in that room with deatheaters...it reminds me of the department of mysteries in the room with the veil..what are they looking at???? ooohhh its ssooo exciting..i predicted that one of the adult versions would have the locket ( slytherins) on the front....dunno why though maybe as it is one of the horucruxes...maybe R.A.B is gonna have a lot of significane..i thought( a mad idea) that R.A.B was still alive but no-one knows- except dumbledore who wants him/her to help harry with the horucrucxes so he died maybe on purpose so this r.a.b could help harry for some reason..maybe he knows all of the horcurxes...wwwooooo im excited the us cover definalely states that harry and voldy will meet again but of course we knew that already...and ive only just realised how much i have written....ili'll stopnow and write some more later!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Thephoenixlament12 Mar 28th 2007

k8y, I always thought that the last cover would have ron, hermione, harry, AND Voldemort on it but i guess it's just Harry and Mr. Riddle this time

Posted by mariathepirate Mar 28th 2007

Oh. My. God. Last. Cover. EVER. HOLY CRAP.

Posted by JadedMystic Mar 28th 2007

Cooper, I read all the comments on this topic... I'm guessing you mentioned that because people keep repeating what has been said. "OMG Ron is holding a sword" 'No, it's a house elf" 10 posts later "OMG RON IS TOTALLY HOLDING GRYFFINDOR'S SWORD!" Anyway, I find it interesting that the color behind the archway on the UK version is similar in color to that in the arena like area on the US cover. There are also archways on the US edition. In terms of Harry's scar, as only a few have pointed out, it is there in the US version. If you look on the center of the forehead you will see it. It can blend in with the hair a bit, but it is most definetly the scar. Now I believe that the thing around Harry's neck is indeed the locket and not a pouch. One person mentioned how Dumbledore was wearing the Ring, and perhaps Harry is doing the same thing. Is it possible that wearing the item or having it on you is required to destroy the horcrux? Maybe it provides a protection to the person who destroys the piece of soul from the person whose soul it came from? Or maybe the locket has other special magical attributes to it that will help Harry. Isn't there a quote somewhere in the HBP about objects from the founders having magical attributes to them?

Posted by sephirothalmasy Mar 28th 2007

@Cooper2085: I don't think LV is Cowering away from anything, it really does look like both him and Harry are Reaching out for something. Also, Dunno how it slipped me, but yeah, both of LV's hands are wand-free. --- ALSO, @Doxybiter_DH_1: as someone mentioned earlier, the font size in bothe HBP and GOF was LARGER than OotP, in OotP there was a Difference of over 100 Pages, so it's propably the case, they just went back to their original small font. I believe that the Blue Eye that Harry seems to have will be something very important if it's not just my eyes playing tricks on me. We've always heared that Harry has his mother's Eyes, and JK said that we will finally find out the Importance of that, now, If one of Harry's Eyes turn blue...what could that mean??

Posted by hippiekiller Mar 28th 2007

Man, with all the great artists in the UK, this is the best they can do????? The US version is growing on me (still not crazy about the orange). I have constantly explained to people that Harry Potter is not a "little kid's book" but just one look at that UK cover would make them think otherwise. I would be embarrassed to carry around that book.

Posted by Chabichou Mar 28th 2007

WHHHHOOOOOOOOOHHH! now that I'm finished dancing with glee, I must say, I was completely taken aback. I didn't expect there to be any good news today. I was even going to check mugglenet today. Thank goodness I did. *resumes dancing with glee*

Posted by HProx Mar 28th 2007

OMG!! this is SO cool!! i love the covers (the UK one ROX MY SOX!!) i CANNOT wait for the book!! (the blurb for the UK cover gives away quite alot of info......not that im complaining!) :)

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 28th 2007

uk kids version is weird

Posted by Regulus_Black Mar 28th 2007

well, at least we know that Harry's found the locket (it's round his neck in the US cover). Shame he couldn't be wearing more stylish robes though...Yes, I agree with sephirothalmasy - they're both reaching for somethin. But Voldemort looks like he desparately wants it, and Harry looks like he's doing it as a 'duty' ie. he's grabbing it first to stop Voldemort grabbing it. The US version is deffiantely the Death Chamber. I've got no doubt about that. YAY! SIRIUS MIGHT BE THERE! YEs, I'm am totaly against the whole 'coming back to life thing' - i'm not that lame. but i hope Harry gets guidence form him somehow, like he could hear sirius's voice amongst the whispers or something....

Posted by springz Mar 28th 2007

It is definitely Dobby in the UK version holding the sword!

Posted by sephirothalmasy Mar 28th 2007

@JadedMystic: Wonderful something to notice, the background color behind the Archway on the UK Cover, I hadn't noticed that. Now, something else, altho Hermione looks like she's rushing INTO the room away from the Archway in horror, both Harry and Ron (Specially Ron) look like they're Cowering away from something INSIDE the room. What if they had just escaped what is inside the Archway, came out to find LV or Snape or something even worse waiting for them?

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

AHHHHHH THIS IS SO TIGHT I dont really like the UK version its kinda word...but yeah omg i cant believe this is the last book i want it right now to read but then again i dont cuz im gonna cry when i turn the last page.....my life will be ending.....omg omg omg omg i cant wait for the book its driving me CRAZZZAY! seriously doesn't July seem so far away im not even kidding its like 100 yrs from now until july.....im trippin out!!!! HARRRRRRRRRRRRRRY!

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 28th 2007

Okay, I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but on the UK children's edition the armor at the bottom of the page has an snake in the shape of an 'S'. Slytherin, possibly?

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

omg omg omg omg...like do you think that the uk version harry ron and hermione are running from something...there faces.....and earlire someone posted that they couldnt see harry's scar..i think i can see it on each versions...can anyone else??? harrys hair is in the way though..maybe it will be clearer full version...

Posted by AccioRon Mar 28th 2007

hmmmmmmm, all this analyzing is making my head hurt, so many new theories, the US cover is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! but i'm not sure about the UK one, kinda cheesy. but, on the back cover of the UK one, it looks like the forbidden forest is burning, I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by dudettekayt Mar 28th 2007

OMG SO EXCITED!!!!! I can't wait!

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

hmmm thats weird i wonder why hermonie harry and ron are like in a bunch of bling bling...... they are flithy rich jk.......yeah i can kinda see harrys scar in the uk kids version if you look really close.....

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 28th 2007

Okay, is it just me, or does the trio look awfully sunburned on the UK cover? And why does Dobby, or whoever is holding the sword, have his/her hand on Harry's shoulder as if dragging him down? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHH ! So excited, but at the same time... *sniffles*

Posted by lozerfreak879 Mar 28th 2007

It's really good. There's so much to take in. All the people in the background, the fact that neither Voldemort or Harry have their wands, or the fact that they both seem to be reaching for the same place. Anyways, I just can't wait for the book to come out! 4 months is far too long!

Posted by flight852 Mar 28th 2007

The UK version is hiedous...Does anyone see the light blue pieces of "treasure" in the Uk version one looks like a chest piece a knight would wear but crystal or glass. And the other one looks like a helmet with a dragon on top of it...what do you guys think???? US cover is great!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Mar 28th 2007

In looking at the UK children's cover again, I think the trio and the loot is falling TOWARD the viewer. Like, the round opening in the background is in the ceiling, and everything is spilling down through it, right at the viewer.

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

YEAH AccioRon- its looks like the forbbiden forest is kinda burining...there's lots of somke..or is it just ...just smoke......well don't the dementors create that mist..so maybe they're the cause.....but i wonder if it is the fobbiden forest buring..... why.....aaahhhh all of these theories is exciting me....

Posted by AccioRon Mar 28th 2007

also, what's up with all the figures in the background of the [AWESOME] US version? very interesting...........

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 28th 2007

omg its juyt so weird i dont know what to think...

Posted by Dragonprincess25 Mar 28th 2007

did anyone eles notice that there is an elf on Harry's back? Dobby maybe? Maybe another houseelf they come across. Maybe it a goblin?

Posted by flight852 Mar 28th 2007

OMG OMG I figured out what the trio is in the UK but not the US. If you look at the UK version it looks like both Ron and Hermione are being pulled BACK, while harry and the elf are going forward!!! The UK version is hideous...Does anyone see the light blue pieces of "treasure" in the Uk version one looks like a chest piece a knight would wear but crystal or glass. And the other one looks like a helmet with a dragon on top of it...what do you guys think????... US cover is great!

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

i think dobby is bad haha maybe he like stole the sword from harry to give to voldy or something or is like trying to pull him back and stop him!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Mar 28th 2007

Lotsa theories about what Harry has round his neck on the US cover. Here's another one. It's a Timeturner. :-)

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

omg...it DOES look like harry is going forward and ron and harry are being pulled back (uk version)...whats that about....does that mean something will happen to hermione and ron????...i was excited...now im upset..not by the covers..but by the fact that its all going to end in july..the books that is.....

Posted by K8y Mar 28th 2007

I can't be seperated from the PC right now! I've actually taken the laptop into the kitchen to read all these theories whilst I'm cooking - I was so engrossed in one about the locket just now that I forgot about the sausepan; I almost burned the dinner... *smells smoke*... oops...
