'Deathly Hallows' cover art released!
Scholastic and Bloomsbury today both revealed the covers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

- United States Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Children's Edition - view here
- United Kingdom Adult Edition - view here

You can also view a high-res version of the entire US jacket HERE.

Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

UPDATE: Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:

"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.

"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."

When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:

"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"

"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

All of them are TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! hm...On the American version, Voldy is on the back, so now there's a good chance that he's going to die. Harry is also there, no visible wand, no Ron and Hermione, no nobody 'cept Voldemort. They're in a Ampitheatre/Graveyard thing...Methinks. Oh! Could it be that there really is that graveyard at Hogwarts that Jo mentioned, and that's where it is? And what are the curtains doing there? There were curtains on the first book, too. They're kind of gold-ish...Could that have something to do with Helga Hufflepuff? What could it mean????? The UK childrens version has the trio with a pile of gold and stuff...Gringotts, maybe? An undiscovered passage in Hogwarts? The grave of Godric Gryffindor? On the back is (I believe) the Womping Willow, Hogwarts, and a full moon...Will Remus transform again (with wtnesses)? And on the flap/side things (what do yu call 'em?) there's a silver stag...Is that Harry's patronus? And then there's a snake in some sort of glass orb...Nagini? But then why is she partially silver? Is it like...a mix of Voldemort's beloved pet and his patronus? Put together? So it's like...Oh! Another theory! The silver/brown snake-thing...IS THAT A BASILISK???? But. anywhoo...Could it represent the protection that the Horcruxes have on Voldemort? And the summary is sweet! Now for the adult version...That is most DEFINITLEY Slytherins locket. It HAS to be! (well, technically it doesn't, but there's an ornate S carved into the silver...) But the locket looks like it's gold...Trick of the light? And the summary confirms that he goes to The Burrow...For Bill and Fleurs wedding, presumably. Well, I'm done with my theorizing. Has anyone even bothered to read this?????? I WANT THE BOOK NOW!!!!!!!!!! MINE!!!!!!!!! G'day, all!~ Monty

400th? :-) How come the UK version is 608 pages but the American is 784? Where have all these extra pages come from? Half-Blood Prince was 608 in Britain and 672 in America, so how come they get so much more this time? I think there's been a mistake. As for the cover: The trio go through the veil! It must be! I've been preaching this theory for months! I'm so happy!

Posted by AllisonX Mar 28th 2007

On the UK adult version the necklace thing is likely a horcrux. Anyone else think so? Also, I think the US children's version is a little bit bland... I mean, there's not really much there. Then again I'm probably just being selfish because I want to know more about the book!

Posted by harryetmoi Mar 28th 2007

Wow! what can I say? Who needs Windows Vista! This is amazing. Soo brightly coloured. it looks like Hogwarts on the UK version - hopefully that menas he's going back! i hope so!!! Wow anyway it soo exciting! Lucky it's not coming out during my GCSEs really!

OMG SQUEENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! JULY 21ST CAN'T COME FAST ENOUGH!!!!!

Posted by Fortunata Mar 28th 2007

TomMarvoloRiddle: The print size is smaller in the UK version than in the US. Therefore, there are less pages.

Posted by Fishbowl Mar 28th 2007

Love it! Harry looks more real than in the other ones. more human, less cartoonish! immediately after I saw the curtain things, i thought of the curtains at the edge of SS US edition cover. remember? So, I like to think of it as a nice way to finish off the series, with a tip of the hat to S. Stone!

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

Heiress_of_Insanity- iread ure post and your theory's are good...everyone has ssooo many theory's....and they all are good theories too.....wwwoooo i cant wait....and why does the uk version have ssoo less pages tot he us version..why????? there could be somehting important in those missing pages us uk's wont get...noooo GIVE IT ALL TO US!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by deathlyhallow Mar 28th 2007

AHHHHHHH!!!!! EXCITEMENT OVERPOWERING!!!!!!!! What is happening on the cover of the UK kids one, i mean the locket is duh, THE locket, US is the fight between voldy and harry (wands, and scar??????, im sure someones mentioned already) but the cover of the UK kids is a total mystery....hmmmm, c'mon july 21st 114 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Cess Mar 28th 2007

i dont think anyone has said anything about the description in the cover. It is very short but at least we know that the book starts with harry trying to leave Privet Drive with members of the order... and that apparently harry leaves the burrow alone , since it says that he leaves "the companionship of the burrow" which I take to mean that he goes without Ron and Hermione...

Posted by Lilia88 Mar 28th 2007

I love the US cover, not that big of a fan of the UK ones though. The one with the gold/treasure reminds of the scene in "Goonies" when they find the pirate ship - lol. Anyway, I love the gold/orange on the US cover, I definitely think it's significant to an end and a new beginning, which is really beautiful. I think what interests me most is the broken wood and rocks in front of them. I am not sure if the curtain is supposed to be the veil because I imagine a veil to not open in the same way as a curtain, but the ruins in front of them are very curious.

Posted by sticky Mar 28th 2007

oh god..sorry i didnt realise that as i posted my question was already answered about the page difference from the us and the uk..thanks Fortunata for clearing that up...whoa...i cant wait

Posted by tomfletonforever Mar 28th 2007

Wow! Both the covers are great. But is that really Voldemort at Harry's side in the US version? If it is, why is he standing near Harry and why isn't Harry doing anything about it?

Posted by Tinurix Mar 28th 2007

I'm glad to see it's not just me who doesn't really see the scar on Harry's forehead. Or at least, it's not as visable as it has been in past covers. Mayhaps the artist is trying to tell us something? And this cover honestly gives me a brighter glimmer of hope that Harry's going to live. He seems rather victorious, does he not?(:

Posted by laughingeyes927 Mar 28th 2007

EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! I was watching the Today show this morning, and when I saw that they DH cover was going to be released, I literally fell out of my chair! I freaked out! This is so exciting! In the UK cover with the trio with all the treasure, Harry looks so old! I can't believe it. Each one gives us a little clue as to what is in the book. The US one is so beautiful. I feel like I should frame it or something. I love that color. Ugh. I can't wait.

Posted by Holly09 Mar 28th 2007

Thanks so much for your support ryuubi! I love it when people like the ideas I come up with to draw all of the pieces together!

Posted by dnevam Mar 28th 2007

Can't wait!!!1 Is Ron holding Godric Griffindor's sword on the UK cover? US cover is absolutely much better than the UK one, but I think the UK one will give us more insight to a specific scene in the book. US looks like they are inside the DOM. Anyone else looking for the things I'm checkin'?

Posted by K8y Mar 28th 2007

I wonder why Ron and Hermione are wearing elaborate robes when Harry is wearing what looks like either his school robes or a black jumper (or sweater, depending on where you're from!) Maybe it's just their adult witch/wizard robes... or maybe they are their dress robes... any ideas? (Sorry if someone has already asked this question - 408 pages is a lot to browse through to check! lol).

Posted by MionePotter15 Mar 28th 2007

Wow. It's not what I expected at all. I expected something more. . .dark, i guess. However, it looks amazing. I can't wait for July! This is taking waaay too long.

Posted by deathlyhallow Mar 28th 2007

oh and what on EARTH are Ron and Hermione wearing on the children's UK version?!?!?!?! Matching somethings!

Posted by AccioRonWeasley Mar 28th 2007

Well, I love the covers! But now, it just really hit me...its almost over...the whole thing! It makes me want to cry, cause I want to read DH, but I don't want Harry Potter to end at all! I've never felt so torn between something in my entire life! OH well, I guess we all knew it had to end some time

Posted by Glitterbug Mar 28th 2007

Aha this makes me happy to be a Brit, the UK cover is always so much better! If he cried, I have a feeling I may be needing counselling after the release of DH!!

Posted by NickiGrint Mar 28th 2007

OMG!!!!! SOOO HAPPY!! U.S Cover looks really cool! I think it is the final battle.....the UK childrens version...I have no idea what that could mean....and the UK Adult is obviously Syltherins locket. And best of all- When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following: "That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?" "Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded. I can't wait....but Ron better not die....or Lupin....or Tonks....or *goes on rambling*

Posted by Heiress_of_Insanity Mar 28th 2007

HALLOW, people! I'm BACK! The Trio could go through the viel...Tom, that's a GOOD theory! If it's true, that explains the curtains, and the Ampitheatre thing! And is Ron holding Gryffindors sword? If he is, that MUST mean it's a Horcrux! SO then, there's Gryffindors sword, SLytherins locket, HUfflepuffs cup and Ravenclaws...something. Wand, maybe. And if the books are in any way related to King Arthur, then that HAS to be it, and Harry will return home to Ginny, still alive. I DO quite like the locket on the UK adult version, it's very pretty. Maybe one of the horcruxes is at Hogwarts, Gryffindors sword, so the trio goes somewhere inside the school to get the sword, find the gold,a nd that's where the UK version (kids') is from. on the cover, there's armor of some sort, several things that could be cups or goblets, LOTS of coins...There's a dragon thing on the helmet! (who wants to guess how long I've been staring at the picture, hm?) And the trio have cuts and stuff, so it must be after the battle, and there are lots of rubies, so it HAS to be related to Gryffindor, which might mean Horcrux, and which also might mean that there's more of Gryffs stuff than we know, which could mean that some of Ravenclaws items actually survived, which could pertain to THE GRAVES OF THE FOUR FOUNDERS ARE AT HOGWARTS, AND THE TRIO GOES TO FIND THEM, AND THEY FIND GRYFFINDORS, AND IN THE PILE OF GOLDEN RUBBISH (or just a pile of stuff waiting to play 'Find the Horcrux) IS THE HORCRUX OF GODRIC GRYFFINDOR, AND THAT THE TRIO FINDS ALL FOUR OF THE GRAVES...SITUATED IN SPECIAL PLACES AROUND THE SCHOOL, LIKE...Slytherin would probably be in the basilisk chamber, which could be what the snake on the cover is, Gryffindor would be...somewhere. Hufflepuff might be near the kitchens, and Ravenclaw woul be in an unused, unknown classroom! IT'S A THEORYFEST! oOH, WHAT ABOUT THE ROOM OF REQUIREMENT? GRYFFINDOR COULD HAVE CREATED THAT ROOM, SO THAT'S WHERE HE WOULD BE BURIED!!

Posted by harypoterluv Mar 28th 2007

OMG!!!!! doesnt the cover look like the collisiam?

What if, Harry is reaching out for FAWKES, which would explain it if LV looks hesitant or taking a defensive stance. Fawkes is coming to the Aid of Harry once more, because he showed true loyalty to Dumbledore, even after he's gone. What IF, they're actually beyond the veil, Harry's surrounded by Death Eaters, but FAWKES is coming to save him once more, after LV thought it was long gone, that's why he's kinda Shocked. However, i dun think LV looks Defensive, it looks like he's also reaching out for the same thing that Harry's reaching out for. It's interesting to read the comment by Mr. Levine that this is a Situation that HARRY will be in (So he difinitely is alone) and which readers will get to read all about, it's good to at least know this is an Actual scene from the book, nothing sympolic.

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 28th 2007

what a lucky person that got to read the book before us all she was just making me mad.........saying that yes someone dies.... and it is a sad book! ok cool that doesn't help us any it just leaves us all in suspense!

Posted by Deadly Mar 28th 2007

there are shadows of people in the background of the american verison

Posted by Heiress_of_Insanity Mar 28th 2007

and someone MIGHT BE BURIED IN THE FOREST, LIKE RAVENCLAW, OR NEAR THE BLACK LAKE! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! MY OVERIMAGINATIVE MIND KEEPS THE THEORIES COMING! And what's that neckalce around Harry's neck in the US version? Is it Slytherins locket, perhaps? Does he still have the.............Harry has to sacrifice himself, so he's wearing the final Horcrux to destroy when he kills himself, so someone else can kill Voldemort. Maybe they wait for seventeen years, and his as-of-yet unborn daughter or son has to kill Voldemort (if he has one...) but that wwould mean that he would probably pass the scar down...And maybe, because they have brother wands, both Harry and Voldy can use each others'[, so they're reaching for a wand because the other is destroyed, but (if it's Harry's) if Voldy caught it, the spell might baclfire, killing Voldy. Or injuring him, allowing Harry to get the wand and kill VOldy, but if he has mercy, take him to Azkaban or wherever. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ! THEORIES GALORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! See y'all later~ Monty (the kid with the overactive mind, which isn't tired, even after a stream of random theories that were all inspired by the covers)

there bulb crystal things purple and green under harry. and they are the same colours as rons and hermonies robes. could ron harry and hermonie be coming from bill and fleurs wedding

Posted by cody Mar 28th 2007

YES!!!! I am soo glad now to get these! im glad i wasnt gone on vacation for spring break! I cant wait!

Posted by DBear Mar 28th 2007

Wow, I was NOT expecting an orange cover. I expected something in grey. The cover art is once again intriguing. The UK children's is just cheesy, and the UK adult's is boring. No questions there.

Posted by sekoegirl Mar 28th 2007

The US cover is so much better than the UK children's one... I do wonder what they are staring at, no wands and all... also, where are they standing? Seems like a coliseum (sp?), some kind of roman ancient thing. Alomost 100% sure it's the final confrontation - see all those figures in the background? What's there behind Harry's right hand?? As for the UK cover, with all due respect to the author, but it looks awful. I loved the UK HBP cover, but I just can't agree with this one. It raises some questions, though. See how the sky (?) behind the trio is also orange? I don't think that's a coincidence, d'you? Also, so much gold, but they all seem to be staring at something else - more than one thing, in fact, unless they are in the dark (ha!). Also, is that Hogwarts?? Why Hogwarts? Uhm... oh, and what's the stag (Prongs?) doing there? And what, my oh my, WHAT does the triangle around the circle split in two mean?? This is why I both love and hate covers - more insight, more questions - and no answers! Grr! As for Levine's comments, well, great... JKR had already said 2 people (at least) were going to die. add to that Harry and /or Voldemort and I guess you'll see there's nothing new about his death comments. Emotional book? well, we'll see - I certainly hope so!! :D

Posted by AGUADALUPITA Mar 28th 2007

WOW!!, I like them all!! Can't wait for the book. It seems that as the days go by I feel the book is farther and farther away. I am not that patient!!!!!!

Posted by Doxybiter_DH_ Mar 28th 2007

For all of you who care: Soooo... I've been calculating. I've divided the US page numbers by the Dutch page numbers and every time, I got a constant somewhere between 1.34 and 1.37 ... with this, I calculated that the Dutch version will probably have 572 - 580 pages. Let's hope I'm right:)

Posted by TwLb17 Mar 28th 2007

Those are some pretty fancy robes Ron and Hermione have. I wonder what purpose they serve. Green and Purple...do the colours mean something? Hm...No wands....room full of treasure.... and Ron with a sword...Godric's Sword? Very interesting indeed...

Posted by Frey Mar 28th 2007

There's no page count in Bloomsbury's bookshop although they have updated summary on their site. Is 608 really accurate?

Posted by Kid_A Mar 28th 2007

The UK version shows something such like a "treasure hunt", isn't it? And there is a circle in the background. Ron is grabbing a sword - what sword is that? Meanwhile, is Harry searching for HORCRUXES in that treasure? Who's that whole treasure? We see the Hogwarts castle, which means that Hogwarts's duty is not over yet in the final book. But the cover of the UK gave me the feeling of enjoy, as I said, like treasure hunting, not like "surviving". 7th book is a survival book and is dark, isn't it? But maybe it's not THAT MUCH dark... The US version didn't seem to me so much excellent as I've waited for... Simple (sometimes simple book covers are the best BTW!), only a "Deathly Hallows" title in the left top of the cover, both the HP and DH names are written in red, that means lots of death is going to happen. In my opinion, in the US version, the people seen on the backside of Harry and Voldemort are the "Hallows", the "humans" that maybe trying to help Voldemort. But what both Harry and Voldemort are trying to catch?

Posted by Ticci Mar 28th 2007

I wonder what the medallion is around Harry's neck?!

Posted by fanatic Mar 28th 2007

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! *jumping up and down while squeeing* I don't believe we have both cover versions. I should have known this was going to happen because I had a dream about reading the last book. (I don't have that many dreams or a least ones that I remember when I wake up.) And the only other HP dream I had(where I also dreamed about getting the last book) was around the same time JKR finished DH, though we did not know about that until later. From now on when I have HP dream I am going to run to my computer and check to what new thing about DH has been posted. I have so many things that I want to talk about the covers but I have to get ready for work. I am so excited but also a little sad because this is just one step closer to getting Deathly Hallows, the last Harry Potter book... ever.

Posted by performingmonkey Mar 28th 2007

For the last time, RON ISN'T HOLDING THE SWORD, IT'S A HOUSE-ELF CLINGING TO HARRY, PROBABLY DOBBY. While I like the UK adult cover it seems obvious to have the locket. For HBP it was the Advanced Potion-Making book which gave the strong hint that Snape was the HBP before anyone had even read anything. Seeing as we already know about the locket it's like 'oh, well there's the locket' not like the intrigue of seeing the Potions book.

Posted by karategirl Mar 28th 2007

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ninja58 Mar 28th 2007

Oh no! I dont think I can bear any more sadness.

Posted by dee023 Mar 28th 2007

On the UK Children's cover has anybody noticed that Ron isn't holding the sword that something else is???? If you look you can see gray ears and the hand holding the sword is gray. It seems like some creature is grabbing Harry's shoulder as they fall through the whatever they're falling through. It kinda looks like a house elf... But yeah other than that... OMG cannot wait for July!!!!

Posted by Wierdgirl5834 Mar 28th 2007

A couple hours ago I made a quick youtube video of the covers - http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=ES5JrC6XJs8

Posted by Cess Mar 28th 2007

I CAN´T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!! Give me the freaking book already!!!!!!!! What does everyone think about the summary of the book?

Posted by Buster Mar 28th 2007

The US version is the regular edition, and I assume Grandpre is making another book jacket for the deluxe edition since previous ones have a different illustration.

Posted by bwof Mar 28th 2007

@ dee023: yeah, look at the third comment above yours and you´ll get the possibly correct answer! AAh, you know, as happy as I ever am to get to know about the covers, they really screwed up my exam reading day. ( I´m having one on friday).

Posted by whatsayu Mar 28th 2007

It is not Ron who is holding the sword in the U.K children edition. It is a house elf behind Harry. You can see it’s ears and fingers behind Harry. I would guess it is dobby. Have fun.
