Jim Kay is to base his illustrations of Ron Weasley on a British school boy. We previously reported that Kay is to fully illustrate the Potter series, with the first book due for release in 2015. We have already seen his interpretation of Harry Potter himself, and now more has been revealed about the inspiration behind the new Ron.
The fourteen-year-old pupil, Duncan Cooper, was picked by Kay after he visited the school in July. Duncan’s mum said that it “was JK Rowling herself who picked him to portray the youngest Weasley boy alongside Harry Potter.”
Duncan says, “I’ve seen a couple of illustrations and it really does look like me – but with red hair!”
About Ron, Duncan says,
“Ron is a really good character. In some ways I am like him. I think sometimes I could be him, but in other ways we are completely different. “I can be quite a bit of a joker, though. I am a bit nervous about being on the books, but I really can’t wait to be able to have them, and so I can look back on them when I am older.”
