Short interview with Imelda Staunton
Newsweek has posted a brief new interview with the Professor Umbridge actress:
A year before Staunton got the part, a friend suggested she would be perfect for it. "I read the book, and Umbridge is described as a short, ugly, toadlike woman," Staunton says. "I thought, 'Oh, thanks very much'." Staunton plays her as an apple-cheeked schoolmarm-drenched in pink angora-who is restricting freedoms (and free thought) to "protect" the students. "There can't be any mess or any individuality," Staunton says. "But, of course, that leads to brainwashed people."

i dont think she fits the part that well by her picture, but i hope her acting changes my mind.

I don't really like her as Umbridge, she doesn't look the part, really. I've always imagined her exactly like that picture in the chapter heading by Mary GrandPre.
Although I liked the way Staunton was described doing the "I must not tell lies" scene. But who knows, she could be good. But Mad-Eye Moody was a total disaster. I mean the weird tounge thing?! Barty Jr. doesn't even do that!!!!

uh wheres the comments????????? cool tho..i like her...just not the charcater she plays lol...shes has a sense of humour...however when i first saw a piccy of her she did remind me of a toad like person.....he he he he cant wait to see what she is like in the film!!!!!

She sure does sound like a fine Umbridge. She looks sort of llike Umbridge but not much. I can't wait to see her in the movie. I hope it's good.
Just saw Staunton in a production of "Wind in the Willows" on PBS the other night- she played the "Bargewoman" who offers Toad a ride back to his digs in exchange for him doing her washing. Absolutely hysterical! I think she's a great fit for Umbridge and I'm really looking forward to seeing what she does with the part onscreen.

Hmm... that wasn't all that nice of her friend to think that she would be the perfect part for Umbridge but who cares? I think she will be great! whoopee! can't wait for OOTP!
