New dinosaur species named after Hogwarts
A new species of dinosaur has been discovered. The species is named 'Dracorex hogwartsia' after Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A replica of the dino skull is on exhibit at the Pennsylvania State Museum. On May 22, the Pennsylvania Satellite News Service will have a special live video feed to the Pennsylvania Historical Museum where paleontologist Robert Sullivan will describe the naming of the species.

Thanks to Kenny and Alisha for sending this in.

Posted by Marauderette May 20th 2006

that's werid, but cool, I would never think about naming a Dinosaur and I name everything I can after Harry Potter and Hogwarts.

Posted by Carbon May 20th 2006

Posted by Clamshell May 20th 2006

Seriously? Harry Potter surrounds us all around. I think the dinosaur would've been proud to be named after Hogwarts.

Posted by Sariza May 20th 2006

That is so cool! Dinosaurs mixin' with Harry Potter is like, a dream come true! I wonder who thought of that?!?

Posted by ronroxmysox May 20th 2006

*laughs her head off* that comment from Cady was REALLY funny..... y'all shud read it....

Posted by Levesen May 20th 2006

Haha that's bizare, but pretty cool :)

Posted by Weazley_is_MY_King May 20th 2006

Right . . . is this like, a joke? I mean, that's pretty awesome if it's true, but I'm finding it hard to believe!

Posted by veelagirl May 20th 2006

Wow! I never thought that Hogwarts would ever be related to science in any way!

Posted by person92 May 20th 2006

Talk about Harry Potter taking over the world!

Posted by Zille May 20th 2006

That is so random... why on earth would they name a dinosaur after a school, or all things in the HP verse? O.O

Posted by Jeannine May 20th 2006

I love diansours, and am so glad to see one named in honor of Harry Potter. This is AWESOME!!

Posted by CrookshanksGranger May 20th 2006

This is a joke, right? I love HP as much as the next person, but that is the stupidest thing I have heard. Scientists use latin as the basis for the Genus and species. The Draco prefex I can accept to a point as it does mean dragon and if the dinosaur looked like a dragon in life, it works, but hogwartsia? Oh, come on.

Posted by alyssalovesrupert May 20th 2006

hahaha, that's really funny and aweesomee. i never knew the harry potter world had that much of an impact on the rest of the world =]

Posted by pureblood_slytherin May 20th 2006

0_o HP is taking over the world

Posted by sniff4scabbers May 20th 2006

That's wild. Notice that, in the dinosaur's first name, they use the name 'Draco'.... - sniffers

Posted by BellatrixSnape May 20th 2006

OK, that is just a little to over the top....Unless this dinosaur has a lightning bolt shaped bone or a wand sticking out of its mouth!

Posted by angiportus May 20th 2006

That's pretty stupid. As much as I like the series, naming something so special as a dinosaur after Hogwarts seems like a joke.

Posted by icy27 May 20th 2006

this is pretty weird.i can't wait to see what it looks like.....

Posted by Gir_Is_My_Hero May 20th 2006

Posted by hp_chica6 May 20th 2006

that is soooo cool....hogwarts has impacted paleontology (spelling wrong) i wonder what jk has to say ;)

Posted by Rin_DuMoira May 20th 2006

Hahaha... "DracoRex"...XD I'm kinda leaning on the thought that it's a joke, but we'll just have to wait and see. And if it's NOT a joke... well... it'll be cool. Weird...but cool.

Posted by FaithInSnape May 20th 2006

Is this for real? LOL If so, that is really neat...but "Dracorex Hogwartsia" just sounds rather funny...

Posted by MagdaleneRose May 20th 2006

This is sooo weird!!! And to think that I thought it wacky when a friend of mine named her CAT Hermione... This though is just so much more interesting, and weird!! Dracorex?? How cool is that? and Hogwartsia?? now that sounds like a joke to me....

Posted by lorioreo May 20th 2006

so...that's kinda interesting...and sorta weird...

Posted by TaylorM May 20th 2006

Posted by Lizzie355 May 20th 2006

It's just Lizzie. I wonder where Kenny and Alisha got it from...hmm.

Posted by Renza May 20th 2006

This has to be a joke, right? I love Harry Potter but are you kiddin'?

Posted by Mee May 20th 2006

First, and in response to Cady's comment: LOL Second: that is so great, funny and crazy! The HP world in control of the little sanity the universe had...
