New dinosaur species named after Hogwarts
A new species of dinosaur has been discovered. The species is named 'Dracorex hogwartsia' after Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A replica of the dino skull is on exhibit at the Pennsylvania State Museum. On May 22, the Pennsylvania Satellite News Service will have a special live video feed to the Pennsylvania Historical Museum where paleontologist Robert Sullivan will describe the naming of the species.

Um... is that a hoax? Well, if I found a dinosaur I'd probably name it after me, or a relative as a present or something.
That is ssssssooooo cool.
OMG, that's so amazing! =o GO HP!
OMG that is so cool! even though hp doesnt have anything to do w/dinos, hp is totally taking over the world!
Why are they naming a dinasour after Hogwarts?Hogwarts is cool and all, but I have to agree with TDeSou that it is a bit childish. What do the rest of you think?
is this a joke?
Thats kinds cool, but I don't know if that's a joke or not...
Thats kinds cool, but I don't know if that's a joke or not...
That's so funny!
FINALLY! Something in my state! I'm sooo going to that musem this summer, heck yeah!
i can understand why they would call it dracorex since that means dragon king or something like that(the dinosaur might resemble a dragon) but the hogwartsia bit is really bizarre!!!the guy that found the skull must have been a HUGE hp fan!:)
I laughed for a full 5 minutes. I swear this is funny, and weird, and almost wrong. but hey, the dino is extinct so there isn't any reason to feel sorry for it. why not name it after hogwarts? lmao. this is hysterical.
WOW lol this is the coolest!!! YAY Harry Potter into the real world! :D the best!! Fanasy meets Science! lol thats just plain good.
is this a joke?
haha i think this is hilarious. but cool!
Thats too cool!!

wow, that's crazy hp really is taking over the world!
If this really serious!?! If it is It rocks butt...
thats totally wicked!
That is pretty much the awesomest thing I have ever heard. Now we just need to get somebody to name a prison "Askaban," and for someone to name a boarding school Hogwarts. And we should get a fund going to make a National Harry Potter Day (July 31!!!). That would definitely become my favorite holiday. But seriously: A dinosaur?!?! Some scientist has just made my list of coolest people ever!!
Harry Potter is taking over the world!!!!!!!!!! Do you people know what this means? It means all my dreams are comming true! YAY! lol, sorry, I'm really hyper right now. Anyway, it's really really really awesome that they named a dinosaur after Harry Potter! It's not some kind of joke, right?
ha ha ha... that's funny... dracorex hogwartsia... ha ha ha... lmao... that's soooo cool... gotta luv hp n jkr

Uh.. I love HP and all, but I think this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. :|
seriously? ....
am i dreaming???
O-O~
...kewl...represent...hp rules...so does that dinosaur...
First off, I want all of you to know that I am a 16 year old girl and have been planning to get a PHD in Paleontology since I was about 7 years old. This whole 'Dracorex Hogwartsia' thing is totaly crazy, even for me. On one hand...this is really goo because now the whole HP fan community is more aware of our prehistoric past and we might acutally get a few more Paleontologist out of this, but on the other hand, naming a dinosaur species after HP is crazy. Dracorex would mean dragon king, but as for hogwartsia, it has no significance in meaning wotsoever. I know i prob. sound like Granger, as sooo many of my friends say I sound and look just like her, but it's true. On the 22 of this month, the will be a discription on the newly discovered dinosaur. I will try to post again and say what it looks like. If anyone has any non-diss comments you can email me at my muggle net email. :) P.S. DINO'S RULE 4 EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
goood.... do you folks notice that the dino is not called Harriusrex of Potteriusrex but Dracorex? I haven't seen the type yet, but I can image it one of those raptor-like dino's, sleek, fast and going straight for the kill. I suggest that the next dino named will be a Snaposaurus severimus
hahahahahahaha that's awesome
FINALLY.... a dinosaur name that I shall remember.....
naming a dinosaur after hogwarts great. it just proves how awesome hp really is..
Erm... why? This is... interesting...
its so cool to see how much harry potter affects the world. i mean a dinosaur? REPRESENT!
That's... wow, kind of stupid.
Um, is this a joke? It seems like one... ??? But if it's not, that's really cool. :-)
omgsh! that's SO cool!
That is the best thing I've ever heard. Rock on!
LMAO! That is awesome. Now HP will definately have a place in history forever and ever. It has truly infiltrated our pop culture.
if i found a new dinosuar, i would give it a harry potterish name 2...
Well, I know that I'm a bit late in replying to this thread, but I thought I'd give it a go anyways. I think it's pretty cool that Harry Potter has been recognized by the scientific community - though it's not that much of a surprise. Their is high correlation between paleontology and scifi/fantasy. I'm a paleontologist myself, and most of the paleo people I know are into that genra. There have been several comments about how silly and childish and un-scientific the species name sounds. As pointed out, _Dracorex_ does have a base in Latin, being "Dragon king", however the species name does not. A large percentage of species names out there (I'm most familiar with dinosaur species and other lower vertebrates) are latin-ized surnames and localities - either acknowledging the owner of the land on which it was found, or a well-respected scientist. Even Mark Knoffler of Dire Straits has a dinosaur named after him (with the species name _knoffleri_) because the crew was listening to Dire Straits when then found and excavated the skeleton. And if you think _hogwartsia_ is silly, well, there is a dinosaur names _Bambiraptor_. This was a case where the head paleontologist allowed the land owner's child to name the new species. It is quite possible that this is a similar case. We can't know until Bob Sullivan releases more information to the public.
wow.......hp and science.....now I can show my parents how hp relates to studies! ^__^ ............really cool
This is possibly the most bizare and stupidest news i have ever read on this site.... BUT it made me laugh..lol
Well, looks like LEW just about summed up everything I was going to say... but whatever. A dinosaur named after Hogwarts? Very cool, but very weird... I sort of just sat there and blinked for a few minutes at the tought of it. But, again, as LEW stated previously, it really is not all that odd once you think about it... I'll have to keep my eye open for more information on this discovery... I always have been interested in dinosaurs and at one time even wanted to become a Paleontologist... but that's not at all relevant to this piece of news.
Well, to be honest, there is a Potter county in Pennsylvania where this is being reported from, so it's not that odd in my opinion. Of course, I live in PA, but not close to Potter county...LOL
That must of been pretty cool to discover!
lmao. i find that sooo funny.
Well, think about it this way my paleo friends, before, most of the HP community probably wasn't really interested in the paleo subject itself, but since this, just think about how much publicity this paleontoligist is going to get. I think it's very interesting that he's done this and It'd be a laugh if it's true. Also, he could just be a fan of the series.
