Harry Potter theme park rumors continue
An interesting article has been published by The Scotsman, which quotes several sources believing that a Harry Potter theme park in Universal Studios, Orlando is indeed in the works:

Peter Alexander, a former vice president of Universal Studios and founder of a theme park design consultancy, said: "People keep screeching that it's an entirely separate park, but according to Steve Spielberg, who we talked to about it, he says it's going to be a 'land' within the confines of the existing Islands of Adventure theme park. If it's a 'land' it will cost at the very least $500m."

The article goes on to say that Universal and JK Rowling "are agreed on the principle of the mini-park, but are still hammering out the details of a settlement." Once plans are finalized, The Scotsman says the park could be built within 18 months.

We'll keep you updated as more details emerge, but keep in mind that nothing has been confirmed yet.

OMG BEST IDEA EVER!! They should have a maze for the third task in goblet of fire! how frekin cool is that??? dude if they build this place i am so going for my honeymoon!

Posted by A_Sirius_girl Apr 21st 2007

If this was done right (which would be hard to do)...it would be totally awesome. but everything would have to stay true to the books and not be commercialized AT ALL. If it is good...i would totally go. even though i'd be 20 by then haha. Actually, i'm sure all my friends would come with me:)

Posted by NoOneWouldListen Apr 21st 2007

At least the rumours aren't about Disney this time. I couldn't stand it if Disney made an HP park.

Posted by Quantummilkshake Apr 21st 2007

I hope mad psycho obsessed fans design the theme park! Now they'd do something cool!

Posted by diagongirlie Apr 21st 2007

Umm ... o_o I think the idea of a theme park centered around Harry Potter is really too much. It would make the whole thing seem so commercial .... the movies are commerical enough, we don't need a Lord Voldemort's Revenge roller coaster *shudder* The only way I think this would work is maybe if they did one of those "walk through" things .... like letting park visitors walk through a wizarding world .... I think that might be kind of cool. Or maybe just ONE individual ride that is very elaborately constructed and stays true to the story .... like the Indiana Jones Ride, which I think does very well in being exciting, but not corny.

Posted by hpintwense06 Apr 21st 2007

I really hope they don't make a Harry Potter themed park. I mean, I'd probably visit it if they did, but I honestly think it does sound a bit.... cheesy. I agree with diagongirlie, that if they were to do anything HP releated in a theme park, I would hope it is a very detailed ride, but not a theme park. I think that Harry Potter was meant to be a book, not a park.

Posted by diagongirlie Apr 21st 2007

Or ... how about a real-life recreation of Diagon Alley?? I think that would be the best!!

Posted by Susan_Bones Apr 21st 2007

I wouldnt really like it if it were rides and things, i think it would be better if it were more like those exhibits museums have of their city's downtown in the late eighteen hundreds/early nineteen hundreds that have old fashoned movie theators and stuff...that would be cool. they could do hogmead, diagon alley, the leaky couldron...

Posted by 1000words_abstraction_ws Apr 21st 2007

Wow, I hope JKR doesn't sell out again.

Posted by Rice12345 Apr 21st 2007

I really don't like the idea. I mean, it would probably be lame! It would not satisfy HP fans! HP would lose its seriousness! C'mon; what if they have someone in a Voldy mask walking around and giving autographs and posing for pictures with little kids? AHH!! >=(! I think HP is best when left to the imaginations of the readers.

Posted by diagongirlie Apr 21st 2007

The more I think about this idea, the more I don't really like it. I think part of what makes Harry Potter so special is the way it exists in readers' minds, how it's special because it's NOT a part of the real world we live in. Even film is somehow an extension of that imagination. But a theme park? Definitely the "real world." At least nothing's confirmed yet. Ever heard of "Leave them wanting more?"

Posted by vreemd23 Apr 21st 2007

can't wait. yipee.

Posted by mugglequeen Apr 21st 2007

no no no don't make a stupid theme park...

Posted by I_am_Zim Apr 21st 2007

Ah, I would go to a HP theme park but really that is going to far. Movies though grand are kind of bad enough and how they make the books into a theme park is going to probably be nearly impossible. (To make a park invented off of HP worthwhile to see anyway) Please let this be just a rumor.

Posted by thecoolesthpfan Apr 21st 2007

that would be a very fun theme park i would absolutely luv to go there :)

Posted by PsychoticTigre Apr 21st 2007

Ooh how fun! Sounds like an adventure. Go Harry Potter Theme Park!

Posted by Schillil Apr 22nd 2007

Man this rumor is nothing new to me. I emailed this to Mugglenet with a link to a roller coaster site 2 months ago. As an ACE member we hear a lot of stuff coming up the pipeline. Nothing was posted then. Bah! That said, I'd go in a heart beat. They already have an awsome themed roller coaster there (Dueling Dragons, a B&M suspended dueling coaster). I wish them luck.

Posted by SiriusBlack Apr 22nd 2007

that wud be awesome they could make one awesome ride out of a quiditch match

Posted by Mattrixed Apr 22nd 2007

The only thing dumber than the idea of an HP themed theme park is the hordes of sheep who commented on this news saying how great of an idea it was. Seriously, think about it. This is LAME.

Posted by iheartmugglecast Apr 22nd 2007

How awesome would it be if there actually WAS a Harry Potter theme park. I would go there so many times! It's still kind of odd I gues... I mean what rides would they have? Ah well- good enough for me!

Posted by Quiscalus Apr 22nd 2007

I thought Jo's reps shot this one down. I hope it's just a rumor. I agree with everyone that says it's too much. I just saw an image of a guy in starry robes and a beard, taking pictures with little kids and saying 'Ho ho ho!' thinking he's acting like Dumbledore, and then a guy in a Voldemort mask running around saying 'Rawr! Grr... Rawr!' It would DESTROY HP.

Posted by Quantummilkshake Apr 22nd 2007

How can you all think it's a dumb idea?!?! As long as it's created properly then it's a brilliant idea! WE COULD BRING THE WIZARDING WORLD TO LIFE!

Posted by Ryuji35 Apr 22nd 2007

OMG, I would love to go but I am from the Philippines and Orlando is Miles away from here..... too bad.... I haven't even been to disneyland.... poor me

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Apr 22nd 2007

lol, that would be sooooo cool!!!!! i would totally go but it might kinda ruin it... o well... and seriously what would they do????? lol, it would be funny... a "harry potter rollercoaster with the incredible sensation of flying on a firebolt broomstick"...

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Apr 22nd 2007

p.s. if they did they could not dooo naything stupid or cheezy cuz that would just ruin it...

Posted by Abigail Apr 22nd 2007

Two words: OH YUCK!! :-(

Posted by cloak Apr 22nd 2007

i remember hearing some year or two back many rumors that disneyland might possibly make a h.p. ride. there are so many mixed rumors, though, it's hard to tell! either way i think the idea is rather cool, so long as they do the magic justice with whatever they choose to do.

Posted by macyparade Apr 22nd 2007

i wish disney got the rights to harry potter theme park. it would be perfect! the strawberry fields!! (if you live near disneyland, you know what i'm talking about). universal is just a horrible place. they are desperate for anything right now. universal is going to make this harry potter thing to crap. they turn everything to crap. they have like 1 or 2 good rides and that is it. if disney got the rights, they would actually make it good. my opinion.

Posted by hogwartsempress Apr 22nd 2007

Squashing That BritishBelle... Those are all Disney-Related. I'm agreeing with vanishingAct 100%. I thought JK already said that this wouldn't be happenening? It's sorta like the rumour about her new book 'Harry Potter-Bewtiching Hour' (A gothic Romane about Harry and Hermione) and that she signed a 5 book contract with Raincoast... Or bloomsbury or Whatever.... WE know that Harry Lives (JK leaked this info out a little while ago) but we don't know that 'Mione and Ronnikins live yet.... It'd be kinda intresting but the Movies have already ruined the series (surprisingly, the 5th Movie is a lot like the book in many respects...) and I don't think JK would want her series intoa themepark! THis is alright for liek pirates of the Carribean and stuff but Harry Potter is just too magical and intresting and I don't think it would happen no matter HOW much they estimate it costing and all these facts... Hmm I think i'll write to JK (I want her to squash these rumours and I'm sure i'm not the only one) Lissie;;

Posted by Quiscalus Apr 22nd 2007

Hogwartsempress, where did you get that Harry will live from? And POTC was based on the theme park ride, and not the other way around. :)

Posted by The_Half_Blood_Prince Apr 22nd 2007

Awesome! That would be SWEET!

Posted by abbycadabra Apr 22nd 2007

Actually this would be kinda cool. I live really close, so I have been to Islands of Adventure several times - greatest adventure theme park in Orlando. But if you don't understand IOA it's easy to think this would be lame. You should look it up. They have different Islands, like a Marvil superhero themed one, a cartoon themed one, and even one after Dr. Seuss. And Harry Potter would fit in perfectly with them. Hey, I've been on the Cat in the Hat ride at least seven times, and Dr. Seuss still captures my heart. I can see it now, themed like Hogwarts, or even Diagon Alley just like they do it in the movies...=]

Posted by hermionefan67 Apr 22nd 2007

I just visited Orlando this past week and there was a brief mention of this on the news there about a Harry Potter theme being built at Universal Studios in IOA but there was not much more details than that. I went to IOA 3 days ago and I could definately see how it could be done but I'm a little skeptical that it will happen. But I am impressed with how great IOA is and if they build it, I will absolutely go.

Posted by totalvirgo Apr 22nd 2007

I really think that a theme park would be interesting...though I hope that it's not called 'Harry Potter World'. Imagine a baslisk roller coater and buckbeaks flying ride. They could be amazing.

Posted by notquiteamuggle114 Apr 22nd 2007

IF they do this I am 100% travelling down to Florida... without a doubt in my mind

Posted by flipgirl Apr 22nd 2007

You know this is sort of hard to believe, you know. Before they said they would and told the public that JKR signed this thing for a HP themepark. But then she said she didn't. I don't know if I can believe this. It'd be very cool. But...I'd have to fly overseas. :p

Posted by x0xharrypotterfanx0x Apr 22nd 2007

That would be awesome!!! I hope they do make one!!!

Posted by Dobby4ever Apr 22nd 2007

That sounds fun. I want to go there, but I probably want, because I live in Denmark and it'll probably be in U.S.

Posted by Phixius Apr 22nd 2007

Universal Studios *CAN'T* make a Harry Potter themed park area, and neither can Disney. Because Warner Bros. owns the rights. No way in the Spartan-Dining-Hall would WB allow Universal or Disney, their fiercest competition, profit off of what has effectively become *THEIR* (WB's) franchise. The closest we'll ever see to a Harry Potter theme park is maybe a ride or two at Six Flags since they already have Warner Bros. Licensed characters appearing at their park. They've got the costumed actors appearing as Taz, Bugs, Daffy, etc. They've got "Batman: The Ride," "Superman: The Ride," etc. There'll probably be a single roller coaster at Six Flags someday named and designed for something "Harry Potter-esque", but that's it.

Posted by klstrickland Apr 22nd 2007

Are they for real!?! OMG! I'd live there if they'd let me...hey!...perfect job for the college student? >idea

Posted by hpwiz812 Apr 22nd 2007

HOLY CRAP! is that for real??? OMG, hope it becomes true!!!

Posted by Pinball_Ghost Apr 22nd 2007

THIS WOULD COMPLETELY SUCK! How can anyone seriously support this hideous idea? It boggles my mind. The commercialism is sickening! If they made this ride I wouldn't be able to read the books without thinking about it. I would boycott the ride, and the books would forever be ruined for me. Can't the books just be enough? Why do we need movies, toys, clothes... and now, a theme park? Harry Potter is not a book series anymore; It's a business. JKR certainly doesn't need the money, so why would she sell out again? If she did this it would be the epitome of selling out.

Posted by silverphoenix21 Apr 22nd 2007

NO NO NO!!! They are really blowing this Harry Potter mania way out of proportion. I won't stand for it, they're just going to screw up Harry Potter and it'll be torture for all the real fans.

Posted by swedenrose3 Apr 22nd 2007

hmmmmm....never thought that I would say thins, but....A Harry Potter Theme Park would be going waaaaaaaaay too far. Somehow, I don't see JKR going a long with this. But I wonder---and someone please answer if you have one---would JKR have a choice if the park was based on the movies? She didn't sell the commercial rights to HP all together, did she?

Posted by Phixius Apr 22nd 2007

If the ride(s) are based on the movies and not the books (Legally, there's a difference.), I don't think JK has to agree to anything for it to happen. And the bit "hogwartsempress" wrote about how they don't like the idea for Harry Potter but that it's okay for movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: Just FYI, PotC was a ride first, then it was a movie. ;^D

Posted by snapeward777 Apr 22nd 2007

omg i agree with britishbelle;; harry potter themepark in universal studios??? thats making it way to commercial;; and havent they already demented the books enough????? i mean;; when i watch the movies with my fam that hasnt read the books i half to explain or change most of the wording and such because thay change the book sooo much!!!!! but if there is one place they can make the harry potter world real and stay true to the books while making a theme park;; disney would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yy better than universal. its so less, comercial and so much more fun!!!

Posted by snapeward777 Apr 22nd 2007

i changed my mind. A_Sirius_Girl;; you put it the best, better then any1 on here Wanna be my bestest friesnd???????LMFAO JK i dont make friends through thte internet

Posted by ILoveKeane Apr 22nd 2007

I could seem them do this with great ease. Islands of Adventure is already seperated into like 3 theme lands, DC Comics-Seusland-and something else (dragons and sinbad or something), a Harry Potter Land would not be that farfetched. They could have a rollar coaster that is like riding brooms, some sort of interactive quidditch game, a 4d theater, HP themed shops, and other things.

Posted by cedarbluff Apr 22nd 2007

that is sweet
