Bloomsbury employs security measures for DH
The British Harry Potter publisher has revealed some of their security measures to ensure the magic of Deathly Hallows is maintained until July 21st.

According to The Scotsman, the book will only be delivered to bookshops one day before the release and they will be sealed in crates bound by steel chains. Furthermore, security guards will be deployed to printing plants, and Amazon has agreed to store its copies in warehouses at secret locations.

I agree with josh06 too. I will lock myself in my house the moment i get back from OOTP, stay away from the computer, tv, and radio, and will not leave the house until i need to go to the bookstore for the midnight release of DH. and I can reread the entire series with all my free-time!

Yay for Deathly Hallows! Finally some book news. I'm geting sick of all this movie stuff.

Posted by Shmookness Apr 25th 2007

It's like the books are holding some sort of deep secret no one knows about and are not supposed to know about until that date. This is rather creepy and I like it.

Posted by fadnin2beautlite Apr 25th 2007

wow I don't think I've heard of them doing this before.they're really cracking down on security this year.it's crazy but good I guess.

Posted by Janey Apr 25th 2007

"Steal" chains? Hahahahahaha!!! I bet even the White House doesn't have this much security! Hilarious! ROFLMAO!

Posted by socopsycho Apr 25th 2007

I can understand the security for the potentially lost profits, but if the spoilers really did leak on here doesn't anyone have self control? I mean some people might try and sneak it up on you and spoil it but only non-HP fans would really do that. I doubt the non-HP fans will be the ones going through the trouble of sneaking a peak at a book they don't like just to spoil it for some people. I remember when HBP came out ppl kept making videos and flashes with Snape Kills Dumbledore in it. But I really didn't see those pop up until well after the book was out. If mugglenet got ahold of spoilers they would warn you, so just don't read them. I remember when the april fools joke came out, i read the first line that they were reviewing the book and immediately closed the page, didn't realise it was a joke until the next day when i figured out it was april 1st the day before lol. So really why all this fuss on spoilers? Just have some self control.

Posted by Rowena_R Apr 25th 2007

Well dang! This ruined all my plans! ^_^

Posted by Papasmurf Apr 25th 2007

good. i hope this means there won't be any people screaming things like "Snape kills Dumbledore!" out of car windows in front of bookstores the night the book comes out. they'll have to wait to find out like the rest of us.

Posted by Carlyjkr Apr 25th 2007

Sealed in crates bound with chains??? That is a little much I think.

Posted by sbwilson2 Apr 25th 2007

good. they do need that much security. they dont need that much security for a novel though, they need that much security for a legendary novel. Im glad that they are implimenting so much security and if any novel in the world deserves it, its DH. JKR has left a mark that will not be forgotten for as long as man is alive. This book got me reading and i would give my life for the writer. -Stuart P.S--Steel chains MAN!! ALRIGHT!!!!!

Posted by Pirate99 Apr 25th 2007

Oh thank goodness. Remember what happened last year? Don't want that to happen again!

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE Apr 25th 2007

dang. i didnt think it would be that bad.

Posted by wougal07 Apr 25th 2007

all they need now is security trolls and their set! lol but I understand why they are doing it! So many people are stupid and try and ruin it for people who wait for the books to come out.

Posted by xxginnydracox Apr 25th 2007

i am glad that they are taking such extreme measures just for hp 7. that is sooooo kooooolllll! if only each book could have its own body guard, but then i guess that would be a lot of body guards. WOOHOO! (I CANT WAIT TILL JULY!)

Posted by weasleychick92 Apr 25th 2007

Wow...extreme. But I guess I understand.

Posted by kellbell Apr 25th 2007

good. i'm glad they will be guarded really well. my mom wants me to go to the midnight party with her but i'm so scared about someone spoiling the book for me. i might stay locked up in my room for a couple of days reading so i don't find anything out. lol! i'm really excited though. can't wait!!!

Posted by gryffygirl87 Apr 25th 2007

Bloomsbury is the muggle gringotts for the potter books. Steel Chains? That is pretty awesome. Now it would be awesome if the bodyguards dressed like dragons. haha. Can't wait!

Posted by sariebell147 Apr 25th 2007

i will still find a why to get one before it comes out! lolz, wish me luck! jk

Posted by megblack89 Apr 25th 2007

Book 7 is THE book. If us fans ever hoped for tough security measures its for July 21... Im sure many of us will be doing what a few mentioned... staying away from any media - and human contact in general !! because you know what, all those people who dont like HP will think its a big joke to spread spoilers to everyone who doesnt want to hear them and I bet there will be some who are able to find out the gorey details because they now how much book 7 means to us. The ipod idea is a good one I think! They better have Mugglecasts in bulk leading up to the 21st!

Well, we know that Madam Pince is alive and well and working for Bloomsbury Security. "If you unwrap, puncture, open, peek, expose, bare, release, breach, unseal, disclose, disrupt, expose, lacerate, pierce, puncture, spoil, reveal, rupture, sever, slit, disclose, unclothe, uncover, undo, unfurl, unshut, or unstop, the protective anti-spoiler seal on HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS before July 21, 2007, the consequences will be as awful as it is within my power to make them." -MMe Pince

Posted by bscorp Apr 25th 2007

Oh.. and Filch provided the chains of course. ; )

Posted by NicoleM Apr 25th 2007

They SHOULD have done it with Half-Blood Prince. I like this because hopefully nothing will be leaked like Half Blood Prince was. Yes, it is a bit extreme, but it is understandable.

Posted by australian Apr 26th 2007

I remeber on the day of the release of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE that the daily newspaper had about four pages devoted to it, which included spoilers. And this was how i found out Dumbledore died. I think that the newspapers should be silent as well because it was a big letdown to me. They should have steel boxes around the idiots who write the articles at the newspaper place. ------------------------- ------------------------- ------ ADVERTISEMENT http:www .yay_igot_thelast_post.co m.au/hahahahahahahah/lol/ gimme$100

So cool! ;A; It's like a worldwide, top-secret... thing! Which.. it is.;;; But it's still so cool! X3 Eeeeee, now I'm all excited!

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape Apr 26th 2007

Chained boxes!!! That's awesome!!!

Posted by AnimalLover Apr 26th 2007

What is this! The Book of the Dead? Or a second Bible!!! Dude, they are treating this some sacred artifact from ancient Greek that reveals how you can talk to animals. Geez

Posted by The_Maltese_Fan Apr 26th 2007

Remember last time we heard about all the security surrounding HBP? A few days later we heard about a copy being stolen and nearly sold to The Sun. Who will bet that we'll hear about some breach of security in a few days once again??

Posted by Colin Apr 26th 2007

Haha! Wild! I don't even wanna know what's gonna happen when OoP gets released to theaters. They're gonna like, get delivered by the freakin' military or something. xD

Posted by Dementress Apr 26th 2007

Hahahaha! Really, this much security for a book? This has to set a world record..... And when the books are released, I'll be having my little brother screen my text messages for me.... =P

Posted by lennyseberet Apr 27th 2007

Wow, I had no idea that such measures had to be taken to protect "the books" and those around them! (JO ROX!)

Posted by Shmookness Apr 27th 2007

Maybe this is particially J. K. Rowling wanting to do this. Last time I heard somewhere in Canada or the U.S. that either OOTP or HBP got put on the selves a little too early, by accident and some people bought the book on the selves and read the book and people freaked out because they thought they were going to go off and tell everyone what had happened. You see I think it's the fans who make such a big deal out of it that she is pressured to do such things as put chains on all the cases of books and them have security guards.

Posted by Onemorebookplease Apr 28th 2007

Hahahahahhahahahaahahahah ahaahahahahahahahahahahah aah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They bind HP books in steel chains and give them security guards but they can't keep illegal immigrants out of the country! (I'm talking UK here, by teh way).

Posted by Quiscalus Apr 28th 2007

Onemorebookplease, Harry Potter is a priority over illegal immigrants. :D

Posted by aliceinstitches Apr 28th 2007

this is extremely hilarious.... lol

Posted by lupin_is_love Apr 28th 2007

Personally, I think they're going a tad overboard. I mean STEEL CHAINS? COME ON PEOPLE! It's a BOOK! (A very good one at that, but that's beside the point). I don't think that they need to go through all that. I know that there ARE people out there that will do whatever it takes to get their hands on them, but honestly? Is it really worth it?

Posted by Riddikulus_One Apr 28th 2007

The other times when information leaked (that turned out to be more than speculation), wasn't it an employee or two of the publishing houses? There's someone on IMDb claiming to be an assistant of someone who's read the book, giving out "facts"...and I know a guy who says he already has a copy of the U.S. Deathly Hallows (but I know he's lying because it's probably still being printed). I agree with what someone else said...to avoid spoilers, I'm holing my self up in my room and not looking at any form of entertainment media until I'm done with the book! I got spoiled on Half-Blood Prince, I'll be really cranky if I get spoiled on this one!

Don't be silly, Dawlish. I'm sure you are an excellent Auror, I seem to remember you achieved 'Outstanding' in all your N.E.W.T.s, but if you attempt to — er — 'bring me in' by force, I will have to hurt you.
