I completely agree. If you don't hear what she's saying, she seems very sweet. She has that sweet tone down.

I agree with a lot of people here; the fact that she is on the good side makes her all the more evil, because it's like: "If she's this much of a b**** when you're on her side, I don't even wanna imagine her if you were with Voldemort", *shivers*. But seriously, Umbridge rightly deserves evil villian award. Imelda Staunton (Sounds Harry Potter-ish doesn't it?) will be the PERFECT Umbridge and I am thrilled to hear that she and others believe so too. Go Umbridge, Go Harry! Go the whole series while I'm at it! YAY!

imelda staunton DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A TOAD!!!!, even her black velvet bow is missing. "Improvisation"..... how much i hate it. especially in hp movies. only the right portrayal of her character will save the day. i sincerely hope she's good.

i like how she is sweet as a character with a almost kind voice but it does suprise you when she lets out all of this evil marlarky. it does make her seem more threatening than she looks.. i think sauton will nail thsi job definately, i also congrats jo for creating such a fine character to where ti suprises you, what you see on the outside isnt always what is ont he inside. sauton knows what she is talking about too....i really cannot wait to see her in action....

hmmm.. her voice sounds a bit to accented in the trailers... but that is just a small picture of what it really is. I think it's a good look for her- but I alway's pictured her as looking like my Grandma, looks only though. Because my grandma's like the nicest person in the world :-D Can't wait for the movie!

I'm sure this woman is a fantastic actress, but I don't see her at all as Umbridge. She's supposed to be short and toad-like, with over-done curls and pink bows on her head. I know it might be hard to get someone perfectly fit 100% for this role, but surely they could have found someone slightly more suited for it?

I really hope that they have her technicoloured kittens and doilies. I loved that! :-) But yeah... where is her black bow?! Oh, and I do so hope that they have the career's advice chapter where she keeps coughing - priceless! :-D

that's cool, writing about her. but i didn't really imagine her like that. i think she needs to be chubbier, and more frog-like. plus Imelda Staunton looks too good. Umbridge's supposed to be mean-looking but still childish... anyway- congratulations!

Now that they mention it, portraying Umbridge realisticly must be fairly difficult. With a character like Voldemort, for example, there is no facade. His appearance and behavior both are meant to portray his power and wickedness. Umbridge, however, is a bit more subtle. She is not a straight-up evil character (at first anyways), so it takes a while to let the audience realise what a malicious little toad she is. Overdo either the guise of sweetness or her truly vicious nature, and you get a warped view of the character. I hope they don't leave out any of the little details that help add to her nastiness.

Donald Johnston...I am in 100% agreement with you! I hate Umbridge! Anyone who would do what she did to Harry(dementors on Privet Drive, the detentions, the attempt at using veritaserum, etc.) is evil! Oh, sure, there's Voldemort, but you have to have him or there's no story. Umbridge was a shocking, unexpected outrage. Jo said she's going to be in book seven. Hopefully, she'll get carted off by something again.

For some strange and disturbing reason I just got this thought: "Umbridge and the albino from Davici Code would get along rahter well".... Perhaps its due to the fact that they think what they're doing is right and just? A work of their gods? (Umbridge worshipping The M,O.M isnt too far fetched!!) They'd get along for a while untill the albino found out that Umbridge was a witch... Then he would pull out the gun and lay waste the devil worshippier..

I knew Staunton was perfect for the role since I saw Nanny McPhee. She even LOOKED like Umbridge in the movie, something she certainly doesn't achieve in this one. But looks are her only flaw. The rest of her is perfect for the role, which is great. I think Voldemort wasn't in the list because he's been the bad guy throughout the whole saga, while Umbridge's new. Then again, Spider-Man's Harry Osborne has been in all three movies too.... Maybe they just couldn't get an interview with Ralph Fiennes....

Honestly the chick that they have playing her looks way to nice to even be umbridge, she way to tall , way to skinny an was supposed to have a toad like face.
