David Yates Confirmed as HBP Director
A new interview conducted by SciFi Magazine quotes Order of the Phoenix Director David Yates confirming that he will direct the Half-Blood Prince film:
"I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters," the BAFTA-winning director said in an interview. "I think I have more business with this world and these characters."
We're still waiting for official word from Warner Brothers. David has been rumored for quite some time to be directing the sixth film.

UPDATE: Warner Brothers is giving a "no comment" on the story. However, this story has not been deemed as being inaccurate. More soon!

Ohhh i hope he does the 5th film looks great! #1?

Posted by pizzapple May 3rd 2007

this one is gonna be a soap opera... but i still love it!

Posted by normalac May 3rd 2007

cool i guess. 1st woo hoo

Posted by UltimateSeeker May 3rd 2007

I sure hope he comes back, it will keep most things the same, and OOTP looks to be one of the best films yet.

Posted by melbatoast May 3rd 2007

Oh, I am so excited for HBP! I really hope Yates directs. Top ten?

Posted by biojosh May 3rd 2007

Kl real lookin 4ward 2 it!

Posted by The_Maltese_Fan May 3rd 2007

Well, I'm not going to judge too much by only the trailers by David Yates looks like he's done OotP as a pretty good movie. But I do hope that for DH, Mike Newell would return in the director's chair. He did GoF plenty of justice.

Posted by Grangeryv May 3rd 2007

I wanted Cuarón back... but what we have seen so far from OotP looks good... Hope he keeps up the good work...

Posted by yuvalavrami May 3rd 2007

nice... well, We'll have to see OotP to know if t's good news or bad, huh? top 10? (:

Posted by sillyme May 3rd 2007

if the trailers for ootp give any indication for what the movie will be, it will be awesome! so hbp will be awesome too! plus it'll be an easier book to cut down

Posted by Dormanthegr8 May 3rd 2007

Cool, I just hope OOTP is good, because that will likely predict how well he does with HBP. Top 10?

Posted by BananaChan May 3rd 2007

If he does a good job with OotP, and if he leaves in "Won-Won", I'll be happy :)

Posted by GinnyX May 3rd 2007

I'm not sure how I feel about this... it depends on how OotP turns out. I'd rather wait to see if OotP is good first before the celebration.

Posted by ShurtugalMary May 3rd 2007

Well as long as he plays up the Jinny\ Harry relationship and not the Harry\Hermione relationship he should be good for movie six.

Posted by Riniel May 3rd 2007

I wanted Alfonso to do it but OotP looks good so maybe it wont be too bad. I just wish he wouldnt have given harry such a nice clean hair cut... its not harry hair. But at least having the same director will keep things flowing better.

Posted by MichelleLynn May 3rd 2007

well if OOTP ends up being as good as it looks, then this will be good for me :)

Posted by TheRealLifeHermioneGranger May 3rd 2007

Cool! OOTP looks great from the trailers etc. Just think... by the time the HBP movie comes out, we'll have read book 7... ='(

Posted by apwbd_fan May 3rd 2007

well hopefully he does Ootp justice cuz if not im going on a rampage s

Posted by DBear May 3rd 2007

Urgh, not Cuaron. Don't let him ANYWHERE near HP ever again.

Posted by Stine May 3rd 2007

YES! All right, I haven't seen the film yet, but from everything I've heard and seen, I know OotP's gonna be awesome! I really wanted him back for HBP because I hate that they change directors.

Posted by theQzone27 May 3rd 2007

It's definitely great to hear that David Yates will be back to do movie 6. Although NONE of us have seen the movie (OotP) in its entirety, I have a feeling that he will definitely do the next movie justice. With book 6 being noticebly shorter, we hope that he will leave more of what's in the book intact. Alex~~

Posted by tomfletonforever May 3rd 2007

I wanted Alphonso back. But oh,well. OOTP seems pretty good.

Posted by Die_Zimtzicke May 3rd 2007

I loved Cuaron's talent for visuals, but I was hoping so much that this would happen. I love Luna, and I think Yates understands her very well, judging by the tons of pictures I have seen. I can't wait to see Luna and Harry's Slug party date. I'd like to see Yates do the last one, too, but that woudl probably kill any normal person, to do three back-to-back. BTW, Dan cut his hair for "December Boys" and OotP had nothing to do with it from what I have heard.

Posted by ronlvr May 3rd 2007

that's awesome! it's so nice to have these 2 next movies have the same director! i think it helps create more continuity and they will have the same feel. i CAN'T wait!!!!

Posted by Dobby4ever May 3rd 2007

That's cool, OOtP looks really cool in the trailers. Let's hope, he'll do it as good as OOtP.

Posted by john789 May 3rd 2007

Cool i guess..But we need to see movie 5 first to really be happy. I just hope Yates doesn't turn out like Cuaron and his Prisoner of Azkaban wanna be movie.....

Posted by ninja58 May 3rd 2007

I was really hoping that Chris Columbus would come back for the last 2. He's the only one who sticks to the books.

Posted by Quiscalus May 3rd 2007

Cool. He seems like a good director, but shouldn't they wait to see what people have to say about OoTP?

Posted by muggle_magic May 3rd 2007

As long as this movie turns out fine, then whatever.

Posted by snapeward777 May 3rd 2007

it looks like he did a better job with ootp then all the other directors, it would be cool if they could keep the same director for once

Posted by mithrilarrow May 3rd 2007

Like most people, I don't really know how to feel about this until I see Order of the Pheonix. But from what I've seen so far, this should probably be good news. Though I wish Alfonso Cauron would direct another.. POA the best by far.

Posted by talkingeyebook May 3rd 2007

NO! I love the change in directors! It makes the movies diferent. The only one who is probably good to come back is Alfonso. This sucks.

Posted by Grinch May 3rd 2007

Cuaron was a NIGHTMARE!!!! He was more concerned with artsy crap then directing a complete story. What was up with all the earthy tones to his movies? When did the magical world suddenly turn Abercrombie and Fitch? OotP appears to have captured the gist of the book while keeping such scenes as the Weasleys escaping. Cuaron dumped the Marauder's origins, Honeydukes, and the whole Crookshanks plotline- and that book was a ton shorter than OotP. Lets face it, Cuaron was out of his league with a movie of this scale.

Posted by Dr_B_Shadow May 3rd 2007

At least I'm not the only one that thinks Cuaron is a nightmare, I swear PoA would be as Fanfic-talk Non-Canon, I was hoping GoF would make up, but it didn't work for me. I just hope OotP makes up for PoA and GoF. I'll get hurt badly for this, but... I want Chris Columbus to come back and do the last ones.

Posted by DexTurner May 3rd 2007

I dont know about Yates yet... I hear he cut Dobby from OOTP. Let's just hope he sticks to the book for HBP.

Posted by ginnipotter May 3rd 2007

As many od you think... i also agree with the fact that Alfonso Cuaron was the best director. Though he didnt follow exactly each sentence of the books i think that he captured the spirit of HP. COME BACK ALFONSO!!!!

Posted by hpfan27 May 3rd 2007

yeah Alfonso did capture the spirit of HP and like a lot of other people i will have to see what yates did with OOTP to see if he will be good for HBP who ever directs it i just hope they do it good and make it how i imagine it would look and stick faithful to the book cause they didn't stick to a lot of how the things were with Goblet Of Fire.

Posted by asleep_at_the_moment May 3rd 2007

so this isnt really news then, as its still unconfirmed... however i quite like the fact that all the films have their own style. makes it more interesting. as long as they dont try to make it "funny" like POA i dont mind who it is!

Posted by mithrilarrow May 3rd 2007

The first two films were childish, badly acted, and poorly filmed. POA, to me, reenergized the movies at a time when I think a lot of people were put off after seeing the first two (I'm speaking mostly about people who weren't fanatical HP book fans and adults). I think POA is responsible for bringing in a LOT more audience and interest to the books.. I know it did for me. I didn't pick up a Harry Potter book til after seeing Prisoner of Azkaban because the pervious two movies lacked depth and feeling. The atmosphere, acting and beauty of POA made it stand above the rest. It was obviously filmed with care and thought for every scene. Yes, they didn't include all the plot points from the book.. in fact I admit they dropped some very important information, but that doesn't mean its a bad movie. It sacrificed some aspects of the book, but that is the ONLY movie that FELT like the Harry Potter world to me. GOF was a step down, going into movie blockbuster territory --> overacting, overdramatic, overdone action sequences. Alfonso was the best director so far IMO, but I'm very interested and excited in what Yates has done for OOTP.

Posted by stal04 May 3rd 2007

Alfonso didnt capture any spirit..he just ripped apart a perfectly easy to tell story just to increase his ego. Ok so he didnt put everything in but honestly its not that difficult of a book to be adapted into a movie. As far as all this "spirit" and "artsy" nonesense goes. Please tell me one good thing about that movie that was good OTHER then talking about buckbeak because thats all you alfonso lovers talk about AND other then the fact that filming a movie in scottland right after it rained is concidered "artsy". All the time that was wasted...all the stupid little things that happened in that movie could have easily been deleted so that they could have fitted in more plots. But eh Id like to see how OotP turns out, but even if its not as good as we all think it is because of trailers...he still might be able to pull of HBP because its alot more simple then OotP. I have pretty good expectations for OotP but then again, anything can happen.

Posted by Maria_Martinez May 3rd 2007

I'll scream my head off if he directs another movie. He's already ruined OotP, he is NOT going to ruin HBP too.

Posted by stal04 May 3rd 2007

Whats with dumbledore and voldemorts wands being connected?

Posted by rachel9isfine May 3rd 2007

I wanted Chris Columbus back. Because he stayed true the book, and portrayed the characters correctly. That's the most important thing to me. I sometimes have Michael Gambon as Dumbledore stuck in my head when I'm reading the books it's horrible!

Posted by heartnut May 3rd 2007

I should think that it would be important to the fans that the movie is MADE, not necessarily who directs it. Let's also not argue about what is real in a fictional construct, okay? Whatever is offered as a homage to the books is fine with me... movies 1 & 2 were about children, so of course they were rather magical. Harry turned adolescent in 3, so things got a bit more mature, then 4 & 5 & 6 are about developing relationships with his friends during middle school and high school years. Overall, these movies are meant to supplement the books, not replace them. If you are so upset at "ruination of HP" through the movies, it's not like someone is strapping you to a chair and gluing your eyes open, making you watch them. Just don't buy a ticket, read the books, gee. As for me, I love watching the movies, and best wishes to Yates for tackling two HP movies back-to-back. Chris Columbus said it was hard to do, and he had about 1/4 of the material to film that Yates will. My best to Jo and Yates for a successful run in the box office this year, too.

Posted by fadnin2beautlite May 3rd 2007

OOTP looks amazing so hopefully it doesn't disappoint us in the end.I was kinda hoping for them to bring back one of the other directors.but I guess its good if its true that Yates is directing 6 because they won't have to get used to another new director like they would if they got someone new all together.I was sorta hoping to get Chris Columbus or Mike Newell back.I thought they did a really great job.

Posted by performingmonkey May 3rd 2007

It was pretty obvious this was going to happen because we would have had an announcement of a new director a while ago. I guess this shows they were REALLY happy with his work, and that Yates loves the series enough to want to carry on. It was never going to be Cuaron because he has several projects happening already, but I still believe they have him lined up for the final movie which I would LOVE. Maybe he would get John Williams onboard again. There's no way Yates will get Williams for HBP, he'll stick with his long-time collaborator Nicholas Hooper, who's scoring Ootp.

Posted by gerbillcat May 3rd 2007

Well i hope more than ever that OOTP is as good as it looks. I would like to see Alfonso Cuaron come back and do 'Deathly Hallows' though, i really loved POA.

Posted by horsetrek May 3rd 2007

The 6th movie will be awesome.I hope David Yates directs it.

Posted by pigwidgeon May 3rd 2007

Oh yes! i think he's going to be awesome with films 5 and 6. but then again, i would be happy with anyone except cuaron.

Posted by Prefiera_de_Gryfalco May 3rd 2007

Just as a reminder to those who hated stuff being cut out, the director directs the script. The screenplay writer writes the script. The art director has a lot of say for the appearance as well. If you don't like stuff being cut out or the tone of the movie, don't just blame the director. I'd love to rake Steve Kloves over the coals for a few things.
