Im not sure if Im happy or not...I mean the trailers for OOTP are awesome, but I still have to watch the whole movie..
Cuaron was the best director.. but its looking pretty good for Yates too... i think he will do great in both movies, or i hope.... and... Columbus was the worst sorry for the Columbus fans I just didnt like him
i can't say whether this is good or bad until I have seen OOtP. but let me tell you, if anyone ruins my HBP, i might just keel over. i love HBP possibly a bit more than OOtP. OOtP as a book is brilliant, but i'm a bit afraid of how it will turn out as a movie, seeing as a lot is going on in Harry's head in OOtP, which is difficult to portray in a movie. HBP, to me, would be easier to make into a movie. but i dunno... oh and, I dont want to enter this cuaron battle, but i really truely did not like how PoA was directed, although I think the actors really did good in it. the director does have a say in how a movie is, he can make changes to the script. im not one to point fingers, but alfonso did take out the mauraders, which is basically inexcusable. Heart, Heir
OK, I'M TELLING YOU GUYS THE HONEST DEEP TRUTH WHEN I SAY THIS, BUT ALL OF YOU WHO WANT CHRIS COLUMBUS BACK OUT OF ALL THE OTHER DIRECTORS ARE TRULY DELUSIONAL! ARE YOU CRAZY TO HAVE COLUMBUS BACK, WHY, CUZ HE STAYED TRUE TO THE BOOKS, BUT A HORRIBLE DIRECTOR, PLUS HE'S AMERICAN, SO HE DIDN'T BRING JUSTICE TO A BRITISH ENVIRONMENT. THE ACTING WAS MECHANICAL, I FELT EMBARRASED FOR THEM, ESPECIALLY DAN AS HARRY POTTER, AND JUST HE DID NOT CAPTURE THE TONE OF JK ROWLING. IN FACT MANY PPL HATED THE FIRST TWO, INCLUDING PPL WHO NEVER READ THE BOOK, ALOT OF NO-HP FANS STARTED THINKING HP IS GAY AND LAME. BUT CUARON AND NEWELL BROUGHT HP BACK TO BLOCKBUSTER! ALFONSO CUARON STARTED IT ALL. I JUST DON'T WANT HIM BACK CUZ FIRST OF ALL, HE NEVER READ OR WATHCED HP THAT'S WHY HE DID A TACK JOB WITH THE PLOT, THE PLOT WAS MURKY AND MESSED UP, NOT SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE LAST MOVIES. OTHER THAN OOTP, THE BEST DIRECTOR BY FARR IS MIKE NEWELL HANDS DOWN. HE MIGHT NOT HAVE STAYED TRUE TO THE BOOK, BUT HE DID STAY TRUE TO THE PLOT OF THE BOOK WHICH MATTERS. GOF IS THE MOST RAMBLING BOOK OF ALL THE SERIES AND EVEN ROWLING ADMITS THAT THE BOOK COULD'VE BEEN SHORTER. SO SHE LOVED MIKE NEWELL'S DIRECTING THE BEST. THERE WERE HARDLY ANY PROBS. I HAD WITH HIM, IT WAS ONLY HOW CROUCH ESACAPED FROM PRISON, THAT'S ALL! AND FOR ALL YOU ALFONSO FANS OUT THERE, RECORD SAYS POA WAS THE LOWEST BOX-OFFICE MOVIE OF HP EVER! THAT RINGS A BELL.
From what we know so far about OotP, I think David Yates was a good choice and he would never be back if they weren't happy with his work. It's gonna be cool to have one director doing two movies in a row, which hasn't happened since Chris Columbus (I DO miss him, he was the the better choice to start the series). I only hope that John Williams comes back, at least for the last film...
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from what i have seen of OotP, i would love to have him direct HBP! thats wonderful news. at last hp will have continuity like SS and CoS
THIS IS A RANDOM DEATHLY HALLOWS PREDICTION: Voldemort definitely dies..Snape sacrifices himself to save Harry and dies..Hagrid will die from a creature..Ginny or Ron will die as well..the wizard chess game in SS is a clue.. Sorry for upsetting anyone..just some ideas
I am going to be extremely happy if David Yates takes HBP. Just from what we've seen of OOTP, I'm looking forward to this movie more than I have any other in the series. He gives the fans what he wants, while cutting things that arent neccessarily vital to the plot. We'll have to see when OOTP comes out, but as I said, I really hope he gets the job.
Hey Spartan, you might want to listen to mugglecast more, already been over this.... And Yates continuing into HBP is good news to me. Going on what Yates said and what can be seen from the few glimpses of the film from the trailer, Yates does want to do the teenage angst and anger justice and with it comes a much darker and emotional film. I would like HBP to be the same. Scrimgeour does not provide reason for the rebellion against the ministry to stop and Harry coming to terms with his daunting task, I hope, will be right along the path Yates has walked this past year. Other than that, plot-wise, I would love to finally see Ron play quidditch and try to evade Lavender 'won-won' Brown, that will hopefully bring some comic-relief ! Go Yates !
pheonixknight: i agree with you 100%! on a side note: sanjaya malakar beat JKR for the TIME's 100 most influential people! how did that happen?!?!
I think that all the movies are wonderful and the people who are saying tne first 2 movies suck thay need to shut up because if they don't like it then don't watch the movie! Just stick to the books! All the books and movies are really good!
I think all the movies sort of have their own tone. I'm glad they don't all stick 100% to the books, but don't go way off either. I like them all in their own ways. But about this director, it sort of sounds weird when he says "I AM doing Half-Blood Prince", when WB has not said anything official or will not comment. He sounds like he is giving himself the job.
well hedwig you're right, i don't watch the first two HP movies, they're not my fav. at all. I just give Columbus credit for starting it all and not making it too DARK at an early stage, cuz my parents never like HP cuz they think it's evil, and to start it with darkness would have really turned them off, lol. now that we're grown up with them, it doesn't matter and it needs to be more mature and dark, so we don't need Columbus anymore. that's my opinion and i think it's right. And thanks Susan Bones for agreeing with me!
to all those people who like cuaron: eww. you're all entitled to your opinion, of course, so here's mine. the first two movies were very cut and dry. simply the basics, no artisticness whatsoever. the graphics weren't up to snuff, and the acting from the trio was terrible (although, since they were first-time actors with the exception of daniel, it's excusable)... cuaron was more interested in the artisticness of it. he spent a lot of time on the details. too much- he added in so much (like that freaking bird in the tree) that he had to cut extra things that were very important out of the plot. mike newell.... i had high hopes for that movie... blech. it was completely butchered. hopefully, ootp won't be. there's my humble opinion for you.
Girbillcat: I agree. Alfonso should come back for DH! Anyway....If this is true...YESSS!!!! MORE PERFECTION? CAN LIFE GET ANY BETTER? OOTP LOOKS PERFECT, SO I'M PSYCHED IF HE'S DOING HPB!!!!
For those who are slagging off the third film and Alfonso's direction, JK Rowling is ON RECORD as saying that she loved his film!!! Plus she felt that he's eirily predicted a lot of what was to come in the series.... in my opinion if he was good enough for Rowling he was good enough for me!
Yeah British_Boy! Jo loved PoA, I did too. Yay!
British_Boy: for those of us who are slagging off the third film and alfonso's direction... just because jkr liked it doesn't guarantee all of fandom does. everyone likes different movies for different reasons. she's said that she likes all the movies. but nobody really likes all the directors. On another note... as for us book purists who like to keep stuff in the movies... they can afford to stuff a little bit more in the movies. at this point, there are very few moviegoers for hp who haven't read the books (except for the fangirls who could care less about the plot). i think they should do an extended edition like they did in lord of the rings for all of us who want an extra hour of harry, but that's just me. =]
IDK.....Chris Columbus is still my favorite of the directors....Think he'll be back for the seventh?!?!? I do hope Cuaron isn't brought back---POA is my favourite book, but in my personal opinion the worst movie so far...So clearly I'm not a fan. Surely I'm not the ONLY Chris Columbus fan??? But I AM excited for OOTP and can't wait to see what David Yates did with it!!
I cannot judge of course until OotP comes out, but the trailers seem to capture the mood of the book. I thought Alfonso slaughtered PoA. Although it was very artistic, the plot was lost. So far I enjoyed Newell's interpretation. Hogwarts felt like a real place albeit fantasy. I hope that Yates can capture the angst from OotP and intenisty of the plot. If he can manage that, then I fully support him directing HBP (my favourite chapter of the story, thus far).
Irish_angel03......Chris Columbus did the second-worst job so far (Mike Newell took all my favorite parts out!!!!) He was a great choice for the first two because the Trio were still pre-teens. Alfonso did wonderfully, and he kept it true to the books. Mike Newell.....well, the anagram for "Mike Newell's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" becomes the exact idea most of us get: enthralling film, yet we prefer to read the books. OOTP looks phenomenal. If David Yates does stay for HPB....that's fantastic news! I applaud him.
i loved the second and third movie i thought they were really good and followed the story line the most...as for the 4th one so so much........too fast,,,i hope the 5th one goes through well.. and the 6th because the book was awesome and there was alot of great info. so hopefully it says to the story line.
For the first time since the first movie, I am excited about a Harry Potter movie. I may be disappointed, but the trailer's tone is dark enough I am satisfied with what little I've seen of Yates' work. I did not mind Columbus, the first is so far still my favorite. I don't like the PoA, CoS, or GoF movies enough to even buy them. I sincerely hope number 5 isn't a disappointment because I'm looking forward to it so much. My inner band geek is coming out when I say I'm more interested in a choice of composers. I love John Williams' work and was less satisfied with Patrick Doyle, but in Doyle's defense--it's difficult to adequately follow John Williams. If anyone returned, I would love John Williams back, but I know his plate is full right now. I think J.W. could add so much to the tone of HBP--which is my favorite book.
That's awesome! =)
Hm. Can't say anything yet, really. Not until I've seen OotP. But if I go by the trailers, I say I'd be pretty happy with Yates as the director. Plus, since DH would be out, there's no way they could mess HBP and the movie DH up, plot-wise. That being said, I'd *love* for Cuáron to come back, too. In my opinion, PoA would have been perfect, had it not been for the cut stuff and the random added stuff. The overall feel and tone of the movie was dark and consistent throughout. It's the only HP movie so far that feels like one piece, instead of several pieces glued together. (Does that make any sense?) So yeah, either Yates or Cuáron. :3
The_Maltese_Fan what are you smoking? If Mike Newell comes back i will protest. He RUINED GoF. Horrid movie. And to all you people saying Cuaron did the worst job you obviously have no taste or are 12 years old. POA is the best movie thus far. The imagery and scenery and whole feel of the movie was amazing. HE IS the best thing to happen to the Harry Potter series. Im still praying for Del Toro for Deathly Hallows, MAKE IT HAPPEN WARNER BROTHERS!! Im excited to see what David has done with OOTP, the trailers look good, if he does OOTP good i have no problem with him direscting HBP, now if they said Mike Newell is coming back im giving up on the movies and sticking with the books
finally! a director!
I think I'll save my judgment of his directing skills until after I see OOTP.
OK CHAD I'M 17 YEARS OLD AND LIKE EBERT AND ROEPER AND MANY PROFESSIONAL MOVIE CRITICS OUT THERE, I HAVE TASTE! GOF IS A PIVOTAL SCENE AND VERY EMOTIONAL, ESPECIALLY AT THE END, 4TH hp IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST 3 COMBINED AND ALOT OF PPL SAID THOUGHT POA WAS BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO FOR SURE, IT WAS GREAT IN THE LAST MINUTE! MAKE THAT THE LAST HOUR! WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? LOL. SINCE DAVID YATES LOOKS MORE SUPERB THAN NEWELL I WOULD HAVE HIM FOR THE 5TH AND 6TH, ESPECIALLY THAT HE'S BRITISH! IDK WHAT YOU GUYS SEE IN POA THAT MAKES IT BETTER THAN GOF, THERE WASN'T A SINGLE DULL MOMENT IN THE 4TH MOVIE. BUT OH WELL, THAT'S MY OPINION, BUT IT GOES WITH THE MAJORITY SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! P.S. AND DOES ANYBODY HAVE A LITTLE SILLY INTEREST TO HAVE PETER JACKSON (LOTR) DO THE LAST HP MOVIE?
I have to admit, POA was one of my favorites. I think for me it goes, POA or SS, then CoS, and then GoF. I loved the first one (despite all you Columbus haters) because it was our first experience into someone's visual representation of the Harry Potter world. I liked how it was 100% faithful to the book, though I know the acting was mediocre. I liked the artsy touches POA added, and the transitions (even the bird) and MOST OF ALL, I thought Gambon portrayed Dumbledore PERFECTLY. I mean, the hospital scene, was so amazingly Dumbledore-ish! I absolutely hated almost everything about Goblet of Fire though. I thought the pace was MUCH too fast even if they had a lot to cover, it was choppy, there was no feeling to the movie at all (except perhaps the yule ball). From what I can see from the trailer, I am super excited for the fifth one. And HBP was my favorite so I'm even more excited for that! :D
YAY!!! I know this one is going to great, and he can only do better on the next one. I AM SO EXCITED!!
i really hope this movie is good! i'm so excited to see it, and a little worried, i just hope that this director captures the essence of the movie and doesnt try to jazz it up for audience entertainment, example: the dragon scene in the goblet of fire, or ron's comments about the girls butts, that movie was horrible compared to what it could've been, i just hope this guy does a good job!!!! keep your fingers crossed, the HBP is an incredible book with a million ways to mess it up movie wise...
everyone who likes poa best so far is a friend of mine!!!!!!!
ChadSchecter: Del Toro would be amazing. He works similarly to Alsonso, but I could imagine him doing an even better job (..a little hard to imagine since PoA is my favorite). After seeing Pan's Labyrinth, I think he'd be perfect for DH though.
i like PoA best!! so far anyway and i can imagine Del Toro doing DH but maybe he would do it too bloody i dont know... anyway cant wait too see what Yates has for us..
This is good news and hopefully from what we've seen from the promotion of OOTP, it's most likely going to be the best hp film! Yeah, so this is awesome news! can't wait for OOTP!!!!
Personally, I'm glad David is coming back. Judging from the OOTP trailers we've so recenty received, it looks like he has done a great job. Being a huge fan of Remus Lupin myself, my only complaint is that Lupin isn't in OOTP as much as he should be. Hopefully they wont cut him out of HBP completely... I would never go see the movie then....
DA_Spartan, what does that have to do with this bit of news? Not trying to be rude, but... ********* Anyway, I won't say that I didn't like Columbus' work (the movies weren't bad). The films had a childish feel, naturally, as it was about kids, and at this point, the books really weren't all that dark. Though, I'd be interested to see how he does with a darker feel; however, I think him being an American director, it's more difficult to grasp British culture and whatnot. ********* As for Cuaron, I will admit that I was very disappointed in the film at first. I think this was due to the fact that it was the first time I've seen a film after reading the book. After a few more viewings, it grew on me. I think the film is pretty unique. Though I really think they could have cut some things out and put other things in its place (such as some of the shots of the whomping willow), though that's neither here nor there. ********* Newell did a decent job, I think. ********* For Yates, I'll have to reserve my judgement, as many others, until after OOTP is out. So far the trailers look brilliant, but anyone can make trailers look great while the movie is absolute rubbish. Though, I have high hopes for the film. Though I am very interested to see how the film comes out due to a lot of revolving around Harry's emotions/frustrations. I think it'll be interesting. Though as this is the longest book, obviously things will need cut out, but I think the transition and flow is most important rather than every detail.
yay! this is good becaues the fifth movie looks great and its nice when the style of the movie doesn't change too much
I heart how this has become an Alfonso/Colombo rantfest! But although CC has it going on in the follow-the-book area, AC has it all over the other directors in that the kids are TOTALLY HOT in POA. He got rid of Draco's idiotic helmet hair, gave Hermione a tight sweater, and put Harry in lipstick. Most of the manips you see online are based on POA. 'Nough said. I'll try to reserve judgement on Yates, but hate the short haircut making Harry look 25.
oh i hope he does:-)
Yay I actually like what I've seen/heard of him, so I'm glad he's gonna do it! :D yay Yates.
haahaa! great! lol! by the way mon the SNP! heehee (i hope every1 voted in scotland the day!!) heehee :D
Great! I have more faith in him than in any other previous director. And especially OotP, HBP and DH sort of stand apart, are the most important. I'd love to see them directed by one director who does a good job and two out of three are/seem to be directed by Yates.
Hmm. GoF was a big letdown, sacrificing content and plot for action and bad melodrama. I can't pass judgement on Yates yet, because obviously I've not seen OoTP. I'll wait and see until I have an opinion on that film. From the trailers, it looks like he has the right sort of take on the story. I don't care about what gets cut out, so long as Yates - in OoTP and HBP - sticks to the significant content and leaves out the superfluous stuff.
First of all I want say hello to everyone. I was looking at the Cuaron vs. other directors debate, and for the first time felt compelled to say something. Until now I just lurked around. I'm a huge PoA fan and for me, Cuaron is the best director yet. One of you sad that he put in too much detail, but it's those small things that really pull you into the story and you get the felling grandeur of the HP world. The only thing I didn't like in PoA is the cutting of the marauders, it could have been put in, the movie would be just about 10 minutes longer. I agree that Newell butchered GoF, but all in all GoF is my second-best HP movie, but I really miss the details like the ghosts, moving portraits, and funny couple-of-seconds scenes like those of the Whomping Willow. Really hate Columbus, he's got no talent at all.
I wish Alfanso Cuaron could be back again.POA was really great and the best one by far.
Oh god!!!! NOOOOOOO. Another book will be ruined!!!!!! Somebody Help!!!!!
Patronus: my complaint with most Alfonso "moaners" are that they complained how he hadn't shown a true representation of the book. Well surely Jo has a better understanding of how these books should be represented... or are we claiming that the high and mighty "famdom" has a better perspective on the books than the author?
PEOPLE DO NOT JUDGE YET!!!!! for heavens sake, it isnt even confermed. anyway, we cannot critisize yates work as we havent seen the movie yet so we don't know if it is bad or not. It really annoys me, the people who are going ' OOhhhh another movie ruined' for heavens sake, we havent even seen the ootp yet....do not judge...judge after the movie.....personally i cant say anything about him, i belive that he has made a successful film, but i cannot judge until i have seen it....come on people, grow up....
