JK Rowling contributes to fund for missing girl
The BBC is reporting today that Jo has donated money to help find a girl by the name of Madeleine McCann who disappeared while on vacation with her family in Portugal. From the article:
Rewards totaling 2.5m pounds have been offered to anyone who can help with information leading to the safe return of Madeleine, from Rothley in Leicestershire.

Businessman Sir Richard Branson, footballer Wayne Rooney, and children's author JK Rowling are among those who have contributed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the McCann family for their daughter's safe return. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed in with the tip.

Why did it take so long for this story to get posted? I've been expecting it all day. Any way this really isn't the time to be going "Awesome" it very sad and scary, this little girl has been taken by some sicko! It's great that JKR along with other people are helping publicise this, but its far too serious for the normal "WOW JK RULES!!1".

I really hope they find that girl fast! poor girl :-( Good for Jo that she can help a little this way!

Posted by iheartMalfoy May 13th 2007

I've been really upset by the news of this girl ever since she was missing over a week ago. I am so glad that Jo is doing something in the search for her and I can only hope and pray that it is doing some good, and we find her safe and sound.

Posted by Patronus_Potter May 13th 2007

That is so sad.... I'm so glad that so many people are involved to help look for her.... i can't imagine how hard it must be for her parents now. I really hope they find her quickly.

Posted by SnowMonkey May 13th 2007

fantfreak, she isn't lost she was snatched, I don't think you understand what is going on.

Posted by grednforge May 13th 2007

I really hope they are able to bring her back safely- Jo you are truly an inspiration to those of us in the world who are trying to make it a better place.

Posted by leahluvshp May 13th 2007

this is so terrible. my heart goes out to the family. I have a dear friend who's daughter was kidnapped by her non-custodial mother and stories like these break my heart. The key is to get the word out to as many ppl as possible. Here is the link to Carolines myspace page. myspace . com / carolineteague

Aww. That is great of Jo to be helping out in this cause. It would be really scary to have someone in your family go missing, and I really hope they find the little girl!

Finally this story hits Mugglenet - about 8 hours after I submitted this news! Hope all HP fans will keep their eyes peeled for this little girl - she could be anywhere in the world by now - perhaps a picture of her by the news would have been helpful. Anyway, hope she and her family will be in your thoughts and prayers at the moment. Great of JK to contribute towards the reward. Hope she is reunited with her family soon.

that is really nice...good jo..and i really hope they find the girl....things like this make me cry..it is so upsetting

Posted by Viperousmullein May 13th 2007

Omg, that is so sad! She's so adorable. I feel so bad for her family. Good for you Jo. Well done.

Posted by nymphadora May 13th 2007

I thnk that JKR is great, she just keeps showing us all what an amazing person she is. We can help with the search for Maddie too, there is a poster designed by Maddie's family which can be downloaded at bbc.co.uk, they're asking everyone to print them out and put them up, especially when going on holiday in Europe. Let's hope they find her soon, such a sweet kid and it was her birthday yesterday, too.

Posted by missallypants May 13th 2007

My friend who lives in england just sent me an e-mail yesterday that was trying to spread awareness about the event so people could find her...weird...i hope they find her. well said mrs_black...my heart goes out to her family as well.

Posted by HarryAndThePotters May 13th 2007

We love you Jo.

Posted by TreRadical May 13th 2007

the parents are complete idiots though. who the hell leaves three unsupervised children, 3 years old & two 2 year olds, alone in a freaking hotel room so that they can go eat???

Posted by phoenixknight May 13th 2007

it's good to hear that JKR cares about poor children who get missing, that's great to hear and i hope they find her. DONATING FOR THIS IS SOMETHING LAURA MALLORY WOULD NEVER DO, LOL

Posted by Loran May 13th 2007

Also, according to the News Of The World, Jo made the largest individual donation to the fund, but asked for the actual amount to be kept secret.

Posted by voldiekilledthedodos May 13th 2007

Oh, god, I hope they find her. That's so horrible....

Posted by Larien May 13th 2007

Don't forget Beckham, he gave quite a bit of money as well. How nice of JK to contribute, what a terrible situation. I hope the find the precious little girl soon. Something is fishy though, I'd look at those parents carefully...

Posted by Jo_H May 13th 2007

Its so sad, I'm sorry but I think that poor girl's dead by now. Its a terrible thing to say but she's been missing for a few days in a country that's policing and forensic isn't as up to date as the UK's.

Posted by honeydukes0209 May 13th 2007

That is really nice of Jo, it's great to see celebs contribute to really needy causes.! I really hope they find the girl quickly! My prayers are with her famiy!

Posted by pigwidgeon May 13th 2007

Ok I'm getting annoyed about this. not that i don't want the girl to be found, but surely if people get such vast sums of money for finding her, then this might encourage people to kidnap more kids in the future in the hope of getting rewards. Also, tons of other people go missing every day, but nobody cares about them. her parents should have kept a closer eye on her anyway.
