JK Rowling contributes to fund for missing girl
The BBC is reporting today that Jo has donated money to help find a girl by the name of Madeleine McCann who disappeared while on vacation with her family in Portugal. From the article:
Rewards totaling 2.5m pounds have been offered to anyone who can help with information leading to the safe return of Madeleine, from Rothley in Leicestershire.

Businessman Sir Richard Branson, footballer Wayne Rooney, and children's author JK Rowling are among those who have contributed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the McCann family for their daughter's safe return. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed in with the tip.

I agree with pidwidgeon! But that is nice of Jo =]

Posted by potterfan4568 May 13th 2007

Woo! Jo is such a nice person. How many people would honestely do that

Posted by luv_hp_4ever May 13th 2007

THis is so amazing of Jo!!!!!!!!!! i hope they find the girl! that is so sad!!!!!

Posted by hogwartsempress May 13th 2007

I heard of this missing girl a few days ago. But i am agreeing with Pigwidgeon on this one... that is quite possible that some sick, twisted person might try to do that. BUt Her parent scould haev turned their backs for two seconds and she could have been taken. I'm really glad that Jo is doing this.. THat is one large sum of money though lol...

Posted by sticky May 13th 2007

i do agree with pigwideon here..although it is nice of jo and everyone else....but it will only encourage people to kidnap more children..but ti still is nice of her...she was only young too....

Posted by antinous May 13th 2007

Has nobody else noticed that her parents abandoned her and her siblings in a hotel room and went to dinner down the street? They were 'checking on their children' every half hour. Those parents should be in jail for child neglect and endangerment.

Posted by bottlerocket_david May 13th 2007

yeah, i saw this on myspace. you can like add her and then put her on your top 8, so more people see that she is missing. well, im sorry for her family and all.

Posted by seventhsoul May 13th 2007

that's so great of Jo :) ; really shows how much she cares about others. but i don't think we should blame the parents for this. A kidnapper is a kidnapper, and will surely do anything they have to in order to kidnap someone. We should all hope and pray that this girl will be found.

Posted by grednforgesgirl_ May 13th 2007

awww that sucks. My condolances to the family. Really hope they find her! Nice of Jo to donate, but then agian, it IS Jo. Do we NOT expect her to donate? lol. xoxo grednforges girl

Posted by dracosgirl May 13th 2007

i agree with pigwidgeon but hope they find her

Posted by sticky May 13th 2007

i hate things like this..kidnapping i mean..it is ssoo horrible..how can people do that.....i just don't understnd some people really need putting away...kidnapping a little child...i love jo for trying to help

Posted by 7magic7 May 13th 2007

Thats really great of JKR, and other people who have contributed to the reward. I really hope that they do find Madeleine.

Posted by WeasleyTwinWolf May 13th 2007

Aw, that's really sad.... I hope she gets found... She's in my prayers. Good for Jo for contributing.

Posted by Chrisf98 May 13th 2007

It is a great example for Jo set to others. It looks as if Maddy was snatched by a Paedophile ring who are very sophisictaed, if they were determined there is little the parents could have done. Paedoplhiles are notorious for their intelligence, manipulation and determination. Nasty people. Also the parents were very close to the appartment which was in the same complex as the restaurant. Take it easy on the parents, they spent one day looking at photos of known paedophiles... Words are not enough. Pray and do not judge.

Posted by iheartmugglecast May 13th 2007

Thanks, Jo. I think that everyone is happy to know you are going to give money to find this poor child. It's so sad, and frightening. I hope they find her really soon.

Posted by Hermy_Own6 May 13th 2007

Good for you Jo! My heart goes out to the McCann family. And all the other families who have missing family members.

Posted by july21tillhp7 May 13th 2007

another reason to love jk

Posted by DeAnaCrosson May 13th 2007

I think that what Jo is doing is great, but there are missing children everywhere. Why is this little girl so special?? And I hope they find her safe, but her parents are 100% responsible for this. Maybe they'll learn not to leave their 4 year old and 2 year olds in a hotel room by themselves so they can go to dinner. How stupid do you have to be. Things like this really irritate me. That girl is missing due to her parent's stupidity.

Posted by DragonRider May 13th 2007

I hope that girl is found again. But I do have to wonder, why is she so special that famous people are aiding in her return?

Posted by AdrianTresk May 13th 2007

As generous as that reward is from Jo, I fear that it was already too late for Madeline by the end of the day that she was taken. In this day and age situations like this never end well. And with the worry and pain that they are going through right now, the last thing the family needs is to be ridiculed by the public over their mistake. I send only my sympathy.

Posted by kooldude10694 May 13th 2007

I feel so sorry for Madelaine (did I spell her name right?). I really hope she gets found! And J.K. Rowling is cool for donating so much money to this cause. GO JKR AND MADELAINE!

Posted by Janeykins May 13th 2007

that little girl was taken from the same resort ive stayed at.. way to go Jo i just hope they find that poor little girl alive xxxxx

Posted by Lynn May 13th 2007

That's so thoughtfull of Jo,such an amazing woman.I'm wishing with my all my heart that the family will get Maddy back. It's so horrible what has happend.

Posted by Witchy_Woman May 13th 2007

Just another reason to love Jo.

Posted by mithril95 May 13th 2007

Oh my god pigwidgeon, how can you say that? A little girl is lost. She's what, probably a kid under 12? How would you feel if it were your nephew? Would you be mad at your brother/sister? You have somewhat of a point, but imagine if the little girl's relatives read this. That's a really insensitive thing to say when a child is lost. *Gets off her soapbox* We love you, JKR! You're so nice! That's a wonderful thing to do.

Posted by polkadots56 May 13th 2007

I can't even say in words how much I LOVE Jo right now. she's just awesome. ahh!

Posted by Jonas May 13th 2007

I hope I can say this without being attacked/flamed, but I feel all this is a bit much. Sure, telling people to be on the lookout is fine, but with people like Christiano Ronaldo and David Beckham (world-famous soccerplayers) and other people who really have no relationship to this girl, isn't this just making it worse? Maybe whoever kidnapped her is just sitting it out, waiting to see how much people will raise, and then demand that amount to return her safely? Of course the kidnapping of this girl is dreadful and really sad, but so is every kidnapping that happens and yet goes unnoticed by the media and thus world. This isn't the first kidnapping in history and likely won't be the last, ESPECIALLY if the whole world starts showing a tendency to mobilize and gather money for such kidnappings. In fact, it's incentive for more sickos to kidnap.

Posted by nerdygirl May 13th 2007

thats really sad she was on vacation i think its great that jo sends her money to help people abut still its really scary thinking about a little girl disappearing like that

Posted by Jonas May 13th 2007

Thoughts already expressed by pigwidgeon I see, and following that sticky, antinous, DeAnaCrosson, DragonRider. Glad I'm not the only one who sees what's wrong with this picture. Yes, pray for the girl's safe return, and feel sorry for the parents, but don't forget the other kids kidnapped or missing in the world who don't get all this publicity, and all the parents who hardly let their kids out of their sight for a minute.

Hey people: TODAY IS ROBERT PATTINSON'S BIRTHDAY!!!!! (Cedric Diggory in HP and TGOF) Mugglenet should know that and should wish him a happy birthday!!!!! If they don't well then: I'll do it: HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!11

Posted by potterlovver814 May 13th 2007

They must not have many missing children in the UK for Jo to get so involved in the search for this girl. Jo's so sweet and a very caring person. Good luck in the search for Madeleine!

Posted by demonchild13 May 13th 2007

Good for Jo! I hope they find the missing girl. And how can Laura Mallory think that what she writes is evil when Jo contributes to so many charities and causes?

Posted by Slytherin15 May 13th 2007

thats very nice of her. i hope they find her. good luck. *sigh*

Posted by Flutterby May 13th 2007

My thoughts are with the family, i really do hope they find this girl. It's unfair for a little girl to get stuck in a situation like this. Let's all hope for a *happy* ending. It's sweet of Jo and other rich celeb's to contribute in a way they can and i'm sure its more then natural for them to do so! If it's money that could make that girl return safely... Even though it's sad that people wouldn't do everything they can without getting a large sum of money for it. JK Rowling, thanks for doing your bit, you're the best! :)

Posted by AutumnInBethany May 13th 2007

yes, if her parents hadn't left her alone, she would possibly still be with them... However I'm sure her parents are guilt ridden enough without us moaning about it online. Nobody is 'the perfect parent' and everybodies parents make mistakes. If I were her parents I don't think I'd ever stop feeling guilty and blaming myself for what happened. It's nice that there is so much support for finding the missing girl... Take note of her face and her unusal right eye, because apparently anyone who's taken her will probably have changed her hair by now? I hope it's not too late after all this time has passed :[[

Posted by yokata May 13th 2007

As pleased as I am that J.K. Rowling is concered about this young girl, I have always been of the opinion that furnishing financial awards for submitting information on kidnapped children is absurd. It contradicts basic ethics; you don't give information on missing kids in order to acquire millions of dollars. You do it to preserve the dignity and well-being of another human being, an instinct all (reasonable) members of society should acknowledge. I mean, yes, it's nice...but is all of this money distracting us from the real story? I do hope this girl is found. I am just saddened that people find it necessary to give money in order to secure her recovery. It is a sad commentary on our present culture.

Posted by funkychicken May 13th 2007

wow. all i can say is wow. okay, i totally agree with pigwidgeon. also, how come, in england, when 1 little girl goes missing, people are paying millions of pounds for her return, but in the US the only thing that happens when some little kid goes missing is they get their picture on a milk carton?!? WHY?!? *runs around screaming like a crazy peson*

Posted by kaitlyn_231_ May 13th 2007

That's so good of Jo to do that. I really hope they find the poor girl soon! I'm praying for her safe return.

Posted by H_J_Potter May 13th 2007

this is nice of Jo, but this says 'kidnap more little girls for rewards!" written all over it. and plus, what about all the girls, and boys, in america that are being stolen every day? Doesnt it seem kind of cruel for her to pay attention to this one girl?

Posted by MrsRoXtarPotter May 13th 2007

now THIS is news, i feel terrible that to get the real good news something so horrible must happen, this is awful! glad Jo's helping, i hope they find her! we can just hope and let G-d do the rest!

Posted by _Weasley_Is_Our_King_7 May 13th 2007

That is so awesome! And I really hope that they find that girl.

Posted by BigTuna May 13th 2007

The p00r girl... :'( ~BT~

Posted by JoCool64 May 13th 2007

Way to go! It is extremely nice for people who have money to help donate. JK is so cool!

Posted by i_loverz_HP May 13th 2007

AHHHH i LOVE jo!!! thats why shes my freakin hero.....

Posted by madhumitha May 14th 2007

This is very good of JO to spend her money in such charitable ways. This is simply why Jo has got such a huge fan following. JO ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Posted by Arabella May 14th 2007

I am so glad that Jo has donated to finding this little girl. She looks so small I want to gather her in my arms. Please everyone, just shut up about your own views on what the parents should or shouldn't do or have done or the politics of the situation. How political is the little girl? Not at all! I just hope she is okay in the end and comes home to her parents. That's what matters.

Posted by HPFANTimothy May 14th 2007

It's really depressing. Good on you Jo for donating that money! I really hope that they find Madeleine. DO YOU KNOW WHAT? Her parents were only like a block away dining... they came back to find that the window was ajar and Madeleine was gone, but the wierd thing is that the kidnapper didn't even TOUCH Madeleine's twin brothers, and they were in a cot in the same room as her as well... That really strikes me as odd. I'm in Melbourne, Australia but we've had relatives from London, like my Nan and aunties and uncles ringing up about it... I saw on BBC1 that her mother looks like a zombie :[ She probably hasn't slept in days. I feel so sorry for them, I just hope that they find Madeleine soon. Or at least her body ;[ My stepmum who's also from the UK says that she thinks it might be too late now. And some BBC reporters went around Portugal showing pictures of Madeleine to passers-by on the streets and in the city, and guess what? Only like 50% recognised her, and the searching scale is dying down for her now in Portugal. How warped in the head can a person get to kidnap a little girl?

Posted by HPFANTimothy May 14th 2007

Jonas: It's actually a good thing that people like Beckham (Even though he's a total and utter cry-babyish git... GO LIVERPOOL) are making appearances on TV to world about Maddy's disappearance, because not many people would have payed much attention, especially kids. But when they see their idols sparing just 2 minutes of their time to make a statement on this girl's abduction, then these kids (and others) will be more aware and want to help find and look out for Maddy. AND GUYS: I think that's a bit harsh... They were only down the block and this was a resort, not some... crumby flat. They were on holiday, they deserved a nice dinner or whatever. But then again, leaving a 3 year-old and 2 little babies alone in a room alone while you dine isn't a sensible idea I agree. But put yourself in Maddy's mum and dad's shoes.... Their going through hell at the moment.

Posted by Harriet_Lily_Snape May 14th 2007

I'm so sorry that this girl has been taken. I hope her parents can be comforted as best as they can during this time. I pray they find this little girl, and maybe with this extra money someone will feel a burden to say something, which is sad that money can be some peoples only reason for helping a family in grief.

Posted by Dobby4ever May 14th 2007

I hope that Madelaine returns safetly to her family. I have to live without internet until next saturday! It's aweful! I have nothing to do except weatching TV. Now I'm sitting on my schgool's computers, and reading the Harry Potter news since friday! Sorry, I just had to say that.
