Movie 5 casting changes and announcements
Movie 5 casting changes and announcements Helen McCrory will no longer play the part of Bellatrix Lestrange in the fifth Harry Potter movie as she is currently pregnant and will be heavily so by the time they film the Ministry scenes. She is set to be replaced by Helena Bonham Carter. Helena played the part of Charlie's mother in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Apple Brook, who's appeared in stage, TV and film productions for more than 25 years, will portray Care of Magical Creatures substitute teacher Professor Grubbly-Plank.

Finally, the younger versions of Sirius, Lupin, and Snape (who all appear in "Snape's Worst Memory") will be played by James Walters, James Utechin, and Alec Hopkins, respectively. Also, Jason Piper will "play" the part of Bane the Centaur. Whether or not he'll simply lend his voice for the role, we don't yet know.

I have to say I'm surprised to see so many actors, I didn't think there was going to be Grubbly-Plank, Aberforth, Grawp etc. Maybe WB has decided to make a much longer movie than the previous ones..? *hope*

Posted by Helene May 25th 2006

Yes!! Now we're talking! Helena, imo, is a MUCH better choice! And very exciting news, as well, about the casting for "Snape's Worst Memory"--

Posted by Kadaj May 25th 2006

Personally, Helena looks nothing to how I imagined Bellatrix. I imagined Bellatrix to be much better looking.

I found this when searching for James Utechin, I think it might be about him but no pictures as of yet, mostly I'm just finding stuff about his father, "Opener Stephen Levinson, who had ploughed a resolute furrow in what he reported to be his second match in 13 years, hit a cracking cover slash that was just about the shot of the day. But after a sound stand of 48 with brother Andrew, he went lbw to Bob Miller for an invaluable 35, and the end looked near. Not so. James Utechin joined Dad, and many of us wished to be, like the new batsman, 15 again. Utechin the younger was stumped immediately by the alert Michael Savage – but the special match regulations do not allow for a first ball dismissal, and the reprieved James learned quickly. Back foot anchored, he put his bat resolutely to everything sent down, using his height to get his front foot down the wicket and block, block, block. Dad succumbed finally, to his great disappointment, after an innings of patient resolve, caught at silly point by Glen Collins off Wilcox’s slow leftarm teasers, and the last man came in with just three balls to face before the last over. He survived."

Benandjamiearelovers, are you high? Bellatrix doesn'thave spiky pink hair. Tonks does. Doofus.

Posted by Kadaj May 25th 2006

Kiera Knightley anyone?

Posted by Mafalda_BR May 25th 2006

Ahh i've never imagine bellatrix as good looking as rachel weisz.. especially because she had spent years in azkaban.. but helena is very good looking too. i just think she has more weirdo expression than rachel. besides, helena was not my first choice for the role, it was Anjelica Huston, much older!!! hehehe But I'm really happy with her choice. She is a great actress and she will be perfect as bellatrix

Posted by danni_shez May 25th 2006

This is stunning news!! I absolutely adore Helena Bonham Carter. I think she will be an amazing Bellatrix. What fabulous news. And here's to a healthy pregnancy for Helen McCrory. xo

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 25th 2006

I had already seen that picture of Alec Hopkins. Originally I was unhappy because he doesn't look much like I picture young Snape. But on second thought, he DOES look a LOT like Alan Rickman. So good casting. If that's really him.

Posted by dinky_diddy_kins May 25th 2006

This is fantastic. I love Helena. She was great in Hamlet and wonderful in Fight Club. I haven't been this happy since I heard CBS was suing Howard Stern !!!!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Posted by musicphanlw May 25th 2006

I hope they're good! They look good :o)

Posted by KenzieHP May 25th 2006

I agree with the Rachel Weisz comment. I always pictured Bellatrix as really attractive. As for Helen Carter, I read that she would make a good Meropy Gaunt (in some entertainment magazine). Not that Helen is ugly, but I've seen her in past roles and it tends to be the kind she plays.

Posted by Lydia May 25th 2006

Both Helena Bonham Carter and Alec Hopkins look PERFECT for the roles. =)

Posted by M_Ho May 25th 2006

I agree, Carter would work better as Merope. Maybe McCrory will get to be her by default...that could work, not as well however. Huston would be an ideal Bella, even if she is American.

Posted by nathanlanewins May 25th 2006

I absolutely adore Helena Bonham Carter, she'll be absolutely amazing in this role!

Posted by Nightshade May 25th 2006

James Utechin Article, could well be one of the three boys pictured. http://www.cherwell.org/arts/stage/a_midsummer_night_s_scream

Posted by CelticDusk May 25th 2006

Whether or not anyone's pictured her as beautiful, she's not. Bellatrix used to be, but after Azkaban, just like Sirius and everyone who's been there, is not pretty anymore. She is sunken and crazy. She is not pretty anymore. Thus, if you feel Helena is not pretty enough, then wow, she must be one ugly woman. Seriously, she can do sunken and crazy. She has before. So, thus, she'll probably be able to do what Bellatrix is, sunken and crazy. A deteriorated woman. Also, her age is fine. She's 40. She was around the age of the others like Lupin and Sirius, and the actors who are playing them are older than than, so if anything, for the movie version she is too young. (not the books, the movies.) So they hopefully will have no problem making her look proper. I for one would be disappointed if she looked pretty in this movie. Shame on WB if they do. As for the Snape kiddo, he appears like his nose might be slightly hooked and he's got eyes that look like they can do some angry squinting, so hopefully he'll be okay. Not quite as thin and gangly as young Snape, but we shall see what they can do with him. Obviously he'll look nothing like that photograph, so let's hope for the best. Looks like some potential. I approve of the actress for Grubbly-Plank, as well.

Posted by Nightshade May 25th 2006

Here's a picture of Young Lily, played by Susie Shinner http://www.intothepensieve.com/images/cast/165.jpg

Posted by mollywobbles23 May 25th 2006

BenandJamiearelovers: Helena is set to play Bellatrix Lestrange, not Tonks. I think she will be a great Bellatrix. She is exactly who I was hoping would play her.

Posted by smasg May 25th 2006

Is James Walters related to Julie Walters?

Posted by Nightshade May 25th 2006

We already covered that question smasg! lol! I checked her biography and she only has one child, a daughter, so I think no.

Posted by GingerGirl May 25th 2006

Well I say, bloody brilliant!

Posted by mdmpoppy May 25th 2006

From Helen to Helena... I even think they look similar! I love Helena's work! She will be perfect! (By the way BenAndJamie... you're thinking she's playing Tonks... she is playing Bellatrix) And Kadaj... I agree it would be SO GREAT to see Kenneth Branagh in this... I bet time constraints will cut that out... this is her longest remember. Still, we can imagine the fun!

Posted by scurvy_cur May 25th 2006

ooh and i just thought, if Helena is gunna be Bellatrix then maybe she will persuade Tim Burton to direct movie 6 or 7! that would be brilliant!

Posted by Susan14 May 25th 2006

I get a little tired of people saying, 'oh, she's not pretty enough to play Bellatrix'. She is NOT pretty at all. She was a long time ago, yes, but after being in Azkaban for years and years, she's hideous. Harry even noticed Azkaban had away her beauty. Saying gorgeous actressess should play Bella is ridiculous. It's the same with people who say adult sirius should be more attractive. Azkaban has WARPED them. What do you think people look like once they leave Azkaban? Young Sirius, however, should be exceptionally attractive...he better be....

Posted by Bluestone_ May 25th 2006

Helena as Bellatrix? Awesome! She's great for the role! (That's my opinion) I hope we see pictures of the young Sirius and Remus, I want to know how they look like. =)

Posted by sorceressliz May 25th 2006

Woh woh woh... so who's playing young James?? Perhaps maybe Monsieur Radcliffe... I mean seeing as how Harry and young James are supposed to look alike with "obvious mistakes", which can be achieved using makeup and colored contact lenses...

Posted by Bluestone_ May 25th 2006

Robbie Jarvis is playing young James Potter, sorceressliz :)

Posted by Katcrux May 25th 2006

FINALLY! we get to see who will play Young Snape! I can defiantely see him in the role, with longer, dark hair, and maybe if he dehydrates himself for a few days for that gaunt appearance. *prays to the movies gods* oh please, PLEASE show the greying underpants!

Posted by chocolateraisins May 25th 2006

She's perfect for Bellatrix. Congrats to Helen. All the actresses I have in mind for Bellatrix are American and would stink at a British accent. Americans can't do a British accent. Except Jonny Depp.

Posted by RedRidingHood May 25th 2006

I think this is fab news she is a talented actress and she is married to Tim Burton...

Posted by chocolateraisins May 25th 2006

I meant congrats to Helen McCrory for having a baby. I hope Helena does a good job...she better have a psycho side.

Posted by CelticDusk May 25th 2006

Thank you, Susan14, for also pointing out that neither Bellatrix nor Sirius are pretty people. Some people say how beautiful they are, but it's absolutely not the truth. It's stated several times in the books how all of their looks were destroyed by Azkaban and they were left worn and drained in appearance. If you're talking pre-Azkaban, sure go on about how nice they were on the eyes, but really, afterwards, not so at all.

Posted by michael_xxx10 May 25th 2006

i wanted her from the start, she is amazing. she will play bella brilliantly

Posted by Nimbuschick May 25th 2006

She's awesome, and she'll be wonderful. She's creepy in a lot of movies. I love it. As other have said before, she has a link to Burton (They've been engaged for about five years and have a son). Burton would be brilliant in Harry Potter. Maybe if they can get him to visit the set they can reel him in.

Posted by ladyofemynarnen May 25th 2006

Ok ... what's with all the people saying Helena B-C is going to be playing Tonks?! She's playing BELLATRIX! And for that I'm VERY happy. But people ... Tonks and Bellatrix are very different characters. As we all know, if any of us are posting on this. ;-) But please re-read the article. Yay for Helena! Brilliant choice!

Posted by Kadaj May 25th 2006

Dont forget that both Burton and Helen have worked woth Johnny Depp. Let us hope that they can make him part of the HP cast, even if he isnt british. He can play any and all the characters he wants. It would be so awesome!

Posted by mipf May 25th 2006

That's pretty good news! The young snape looks good, & I love Helena Bonham Carter!

Posted by Luna_Lovegood May 25th 2006

There's no doubt in my mind that Helena Bonham Carter is capable, as an actress, to fulfill the role of Bellatrix, who is an absolutely crucial character to the series, but from the photo that MuggleNet posted upon announcing Helen McCrory being cast for the part, I think Helen looked a bit better for the part. I'm a bit disappointed, but at least Helena is a great actress!

Posted by evilbutsexy May 25th 2006

"(Angelica) Huston would be an ideal Bella, even if she is American." GOOD CHOICE. Now that I think about it, she would be PERFECT...come on...she does evil better than ANYONE...it really is too bad she's American otherwise thye would have picked her i'm sure.

Posted by performingmonkey May 25th 2006

Alec Hopkins looks a perfect choice for Snape. Just picture him with the black greasy hair and it's all there! I wonder if he'll have any lines though. Can ANYONE speak like Alan Rickman?? As for Helena Bonham Carter, she was many people's first choice for Bellatrix and probably the producers' second choice. Personally I think she's too obvious a casting, and maybe won't be evil enough. Although this would certainly help to bag Tim Burton as director of 6 or 7 if they want him. Personally I would prefer him for 6 and then either Cuaron or Newell return for 7.

Posted by Dark_Princess May 25th 2006

Great choice i liked the previous one more though. oh well. i really want to see pics of sirius and lupin. HAHA Hopkins looks incredibly stupid on that horse.

Posted by evilbutsexy May 25th 2006

Anyone notice how the case of the Death Eater's side is better than the Order's? Please...Ralph Fiennes....Alan....Jason...and now Helena? Ha! The only thing the Order has going for them is Maggie Smith, now that Richard Harris is gone.

Posted by m00n_un1t_luna May 25th 2006

She's who I always wanted to play Bellatrix!!!!! Or Merope...hehehe... I'm so happy!!!

Posted by FaithInSnape May 25th 2006

Awwww, I thought Helen would've been perfect for Bellatrix! But Helena is also very good! I can't wait for Movie 5! EEEE! So exciting! :D

Posted by Tarhisie May 25th 2006

James Walters better be hot.

Posted by Legginglas May 25th 2006

Much agreed, Tarhisie.

Posted by Janey May 25th 2006

That's...um...great, I guess...? I don't know. I've never heard of these people before, except for Helena Bonham Carter. She's a great actress, so I'm sure she'll do a fantastic job. Hasn't she worked with Ralph Fiennes before, in Wuthering Heights, or is that someone else?

Posted by gothicpixie May 25th 2006

I think that Helena will be brilliant as Bellatrix! She's as close to the Bellatrix in my head as you can get, and would make a great baddie!

Posted by Sarah_2005 May 25th 2006

wow! loved her in charlie and the chocolate facotry, 100th post?! XD
