Movie 5 casting changes and announcements
Movie 5 casting changes and announcements Helen McCrory will no longer play the part of Bellatrix Lestrange in the fifth Harry Potter movie as she is currently pregnant and will be heavily so by the time they film the Ministry scenes. She is set to be replaced by Helena Bonham Carter. Helena played the part of Charlie's mother in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Apple Brook, who's appeared in stage, TV and film productions for more than 25 years, will portray Care of Magical Creatures substitute teacher Professor Grubbly-Plank.

Finally, the younger versions of Sirius, Lupin, and Snape (who all appear in "Snape's Worst Memory") will be played by James Walters, James Utechin, and Alec Hopkins, respectively. Also, Jason Piper will "play" the part of Bane the Centaur. Whether or not he'll simply lend his voice for the role, we don't yet know.

ahhh! that's awsome! I love helena! But i'd really like some pics of the boys that are playing the marauders...

Posted by ibrake4jedi May 25th 2006

Oh LORD. Thank goodness the bloke rumored to play Remus isn't going to! He looked more Snape-ish than anything, really. Hope this fellow is better-looking. Oh, how I hope that they get images up of Sirius and Remus. The boy as Snape is pretty good, though--hair change needed, obviously. And Helena as Bellatrix? Brilliant! Not quite the Catherine Zeta-Jones-esque person I imagined her, but definitely very close. Nice job, there!

Posted by Susie May 25th 2006

NO, NO, NO! This is horrible! She's not pretty enough! Stupid actress, she shouldn't've gotten pregnant! Well, with makeup I suppose she'd be okay...but I actually thought that Helena would be better as Merope Gaunt, considering her role in CatCF.

Posted by ValGal292 May 25th 2006

cool!

Posted by Fali May 25th 2006

Hmm, well I'd like to see her act to really decide but that's not how I imagined but yeah. I didn't imagine Snape like that either oh well.

Posted by loonz May 25th 2006

!!! why all these changes?!?!

Posted by Ginluvzharry May 25th 2006

They cast a young Sirius! *Jumps for joy and tries to wait patiently for a picture*

Posted by Siriusly_in_Love May 25th 2006

wow, this is a change... they all seem pretty good but im confused about the young snape and lupin and sirius whisch ones which? NOT DEAD!

Posted by The_Obsesser May 25th 2006

This is really interesting. I mean, I can't honestly comment on any of the actors, because I don't know any of their names. But just the fact that Bellatrix, the young marauders, Bane, Magoran, Grubbly-Plank and dozens of other minor characters have been cast tells us something. Something alarming, in my opinion. GoF was a long enough book, and a rather short, highly rushed movie. It didn't have half as many new characters as OotP does. It worries me that they're casting all these minor characters. I mean, I love that they're including all this stuff that we fans love, but I don't think it's going to turn out good. If they're spending time introducing us to Grubbly-Plank, how much time is going to be taken out of the Ministry scenes? Will we see the DA at all? Will Dumbledore even give us more than a thirty-second explanation of the prophecy? Is the introduction of such characters going to snatch away from the story in the places we love most?

Posted by CrookshanksGranger May 25th 2006

I always thought that Helena Bonham Carter should play Merope, not Bellatrix. Hmmm, wonder who would play a good Merope now, since obviously she can't. I don't know if I like this yet, it'll be interesting, that's for sure.

Posted by feltonfan May 25th 2006

Thanks Mafalda!! that made me change my mind about Helena....as for Snape!! WTF!!! Grubby-plank (LOVE THE LAST NAME) looks fine...we'll see about the acting...does anyone have a link for the other two?? i cant find any!

Posted by Lizzie355 May 25th 2006

Hi guys...Lily has dark red hair and green eyes right? Susan Shinner looks really good for the part though...

Posted by DecemberDrops May 25th 2006

How exciting! I'm really interested! I wonder whether some of these people really wanted the parts and then found out that they got them? That must be a great feeling; I know it really well. Isn't it ironic that two of the actors for the Marauders are called "James"?

Posted by sirbackbite May 25th 2006

Hey Obsesser, I had the same thought. Why on earth include someone like Grubbly-Plank when there are other, more vital areas of the book that could use the time? Then I thought of a character like Pomfrey, someone of roughly the same importance in the books, and who appears in the films too. She doesn't take any time away from more important areas, we as fans of the books just see her hanging around the Hospital wing and we know who she is. Thats the sort of level I expect to see Grubbly-Plank having in the fifth film. Of course I could be wrong and would be interested to hear what others think...

I dont think she is a good Bellatrix i imagined her more, inner evil looking. She is a normal person but you can see in her eyes the evil that lurks within her. and i imaged her with blonde hair im not sure why.

Posted by meeeeegan May 25th 2006

AHHH!! THIS IS SOOOO PERFECT! HELENA BONHAM CARTER IS EXACTLY WHO I WANTED AS BELLATRIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you guys are disappointed about this, then go rent fight club and you will agreeeee that she is PERFECT for bellatrix. and she woudl totally look the part. I absolutely love Helena Bonham Carter!!

Posted by Gryffindor May 25th 2006

I adore Helena, she is by far one of my favorite actresses. This is going to be fantastic.

Posted by chaibabachai May 25th 2006

AHHH! I'm sooooooo excited for Helena being cast for this roll!! I think she would be prefect and I CANNOT wait to see her in the movie! yessss!!!! lol, sorry, I'm just very happy for how things turned out(even though it is sad the other lady couldn't do the part). she'll be great :) and I agree, I hope Tim Burton does one of the HP movies too. that would be wonderful.

Posted by SlightBriton May 25th 2006

I think Helena will do absolutely wonderful. She's amazing in Big Fish, so I have great faith in her. As for the Marauder casting, I wish there were pictures of the Sirius and Lupin actors, but the pic of Alec Hopkins threw me. He doesn't have black hair! But that's what a wig is for, I suppose. He's got the glare down, though. I'm happy about that. Cant' wait till the movie comes out!

Posted by outgoingmail May 25th 2006

let's hope movie 5 turns out better than movie 4. movie 4: let's have the first 2 hours be a competition and quick throw in a plot at the end. grrrrrrrrrr i'll never let it go....don't get me started on mive 3!!!!!!! stupid director...oh well. maybe in the future some good samaritan will fix it.

Posted by lumos May 25th 2006

ooh this is going to be amazing!!!!! can't wait.. the new guys that are playing the parts are good looking:D

Posted by Peevsie May 25th 2006

She looks like she'll be excellent! Yea, this is so exciting! The guy playing Snape looks a bit like a younger version of Alan Rickman, if you think about it. Sort of...

Posted by Cissa May 25th 2006

I'm still waiting for Tim Curry to find a role in HP... Maybe Jo will write a new evil character in book 7 that he can play. But as fot Helena... I think she's perfect. Everyone thinks she might not look as right as Helen did but Helena can certainly act really well, so I think she'll make Bella just right.

Posted by Bynnie May 25th 2006

See! I keep telling people Apple isn't such an unusual name! Honestly.

Posted by OldMrToad May 25th 2006

But... But... She was such a sweet young thing when she played Ophelia in "Hamlet". She'll be great! OMT

Posted by Chrisell May 25th 2006

Ooh, I love her. I prefer her to the other person. It's too bad that because women get pregnant they lose jobs. I know in this case it makes sense, but it's kind of unfair sometimes. Oh well, she can't be doing action sequences plus it would show.

Posted by amanduhlol May 25th 2006

yes exciting! i love helena! can we see pics of the people playing the young marauders

Great news!

Posted by Katharine05 May 25th 2006

EWWW! Helen McCrory is an AMAZING actress, a real classy British actress...she's what most people think of as pure, wonderful British acting. Helena Bonham Carter, on the other hand, can't act if she was paid millions (which she probably is). She was good as Olivia in Twelfth Night, but that's about it. Urgh.

Posted by YouKnowWhoIam May 25th 2006

I bet Helena will do a fantastic job and congratulations to Helena on becoming pregnant!

Posted by tabitoo May 25th 2006

She was great in Fight Club. Can't wait to see her in OotP.

Posted by kimyswirls May 25th 2006

That's Hot. LOL.

Posted by kimyswirls May 25th 2006

Wait... She was in Merlin? I think she would do a great job as a lunatic out of Azkaban... Can't wait to see her in the movie....

Posted by tabitoo May 25th 2006

Mmmmm....Bane!!!! Now I'm not feeling too sorry for Umbridge :(. He. Is. Fine.

Posted by crazyfangirl156 May 25th 2006

OMG! that's so crazy! I think that Helena person is so totaly wrong for the part of bellatrix. She's worked with Maggie Smith though. thats pretty cool.

Posted by Becky_Snape May 25th 2006

Great I love Helena great in in Charile, Like otheres have said i hope she can pull off the rare evilness of it and I thought she would be a great Tonks. And Most Excellent they have finally casted the young Sirirus, Remus, and Severus. I hope the guy to play Severus is great becasue Severus is one of my faveorite characters and he has big shoes to fill in that he has to in a way play a young Alan Rickman. Who is my faveorite actor in the HP movies.

Posted by forestq May 25th 2006

Hurray! Perfectness! I think this was meant to happen!

Posted by ziraili7 May 25th 2006

YAY! That's so crazy. I had originally hoped Helena would play Bellatrix. I think she's quite perfect for the part. And I must say, I really hope Jason Piper is actually shown in the movie as the centaur, in some way, because he is hot!

Posted by potter2 May 25th 2006

I don't like Helena Bonham Carter. She's a good actress, I liked her in CATCF and Wallace and Gromit, but she doesn't look right for Bellatrix. In my opinion.

Posted by jozefd1 May 25th 2006

they sort of do look alike

Posted by Gloria May 25th 2006

WHAT A PERFECT BELLATRIX!!!!!! I ADORE Helena Bonham-Carter! (Hmmm... by the way, how about Tim Burton directing one of the next HP films? I think he would be brilliant.)

Posted by CaE May 25th 2006

Oh! I'd think she'd be incredibly great to play the role of Bellatrix!!

Posted by The_Muffin_Girl May 25th 2006

ooh, some new movie news! ^_^ good, i was wondering who would play them...

Posted by blod May 25th 2006

oh non! i love helena bonham carter but i can't picture her as bellatrix :(

Posted by Waldszenen May 25th 2006

THREE CHEERS FOR HELENA! (all I want now is for Brian Cox to play Slughorn)

Posted by LadySnape May 25th 2006

I have to say that I am a bit disappointed to hear that Helen will not be portraying Bellatrix. I think it's wonderful that she's having a child, but having seen her in other roles, I'm sure she would have done well as Bella. Even though I'm not as confident in Helena's ability to pull off the character of Bellatrix, I'm sure she'll do fine. As for the marauders and Snape...I'm sure they'll be good. The review that goes along with the picture of Alec (Snape) says that he is a very good actor, capable of subtle gestures and excellent timing. Yay!
