JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans!
Jo Rowling has updated her website with her plans for the release of Book 7. According to Bloomsbury:To celebrate the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on 21st July 2007, J.K. Rowling will be signing the night away at the Natural History Museum in London.US residents can apply at scholastic.com. Other English-speaking publishers may also be allotted tickets; keep an eye on their websites. (for the US).
Ten years after publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the launch of this, the final book in the series, returns to where it all began: with a book, the author and her readers.
1,700 fans will have the opportunity to meet J.K. Rowling and have their book signed at the Natural History Museum. The first 500 randomly selected winners will attend the midnight reading with J.K. Rowling. The subsequent signing is expected to last until dawn. Every ticket holder will receive a free book from Bloomsbury Publishing.
Tickets to the event are free and will be available by online draw from 23rd May. The deadline for applicants is 11th June. To apply for tickets visit Bloomsbury's website.
Jo says, "It has been a long time since I've done a signing and had the chance to speak to readers individually, so I'm delighted that we are launching the book in this way. It will be wonderful for me to get the chance to speak to people who have already read a few chapters while in the queue!

Once again, JK Rowling only includes the US and the UK. What about the rest of us? Are you saying we hate Harry Potter? What about Canada? It's RIGHT ABOVE THE US! And Australia? It's all alone down there ... and the other countries in Europe? They love Harry Potter TOO!

That is so not fair! Why do you always have to be under 21 or 18 for any contest involving Harry Potter! There are adults who enjoy the books and would love to meet her. Grr I'm so not happy about this.
Once again Scholastic fails to realize that there just might be Harry Potter fans out there in the world who are not children! I'm quite frustrated at them right now. In some of their contest this age limit kind of makes sense, but it's totally rediculous in this case! Not only do I love HP, but I also love London, and now I have no hopes for either one. Tragifying.

Why only UK and Irish residents, Jo? I'm travelling from Holland to the UK for the midnight release and I don't get a chance to win a ticket for the signing! A disappointment for all the other foreigners that are coming to the UK for the midnight release! Not one of your best moves, Jo! :(
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! I live in London, I spent half my life near that museum, I HAVE TO GO!!! i didn't read anything about being under 21 or 18 or anything for the Bloomsbury thing tho, right? I'm 20, hope I can enter the draw hmmm the thing is my cousin is coming from overseas, so technically she's not a UK resident even though I'll be the one entering the draw and "leading the family" and I'm a UK resident... doesn't seem like I can put her in the family if she's not uk resident though... what do u guys think???
Am I a little thick? I read through the terms and conditions and it did not specify that this was for children only?! Oh well I'm sure I can borrow a child for the evening. Also to the staff at Mugglenet - I am sure that you guys intend to do this but can you please keep us informed of any other events going on in conjunction with the release of the seventh book, especially those centered around Jo and official publishers. I'm realising that it isn't Jo but Bloomsbury which put up this prize draw... I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend Jo. But anyway I'm disappointed in Bloomsbury because only UK and Iriland citizens can apply for the prize draw! :(
I'm going to London that night even if I don't win tickets, the atmosphere will be great.
Just when you thought that being 21 could let you do anything... That makes me sad.
I can't believe that the contest is only opened for people 21 years or older. I am 23 and started reading the series when it first came out when I was 13. Also the kids I know like to say that read the book, some of them even buy the book, and VERY few kids under 18 actully finsh the book. It too bad her book company don't even know who her hardcore fans. They would be NOTHING with the over 21 fans!!! I don't blame JKR, I blame her book company who still think that "The Harry Potter" series is a childrens series!
I too have read and re-read the terms and conditions on the Bloomsbury site, and am quite sure that the only requirements are that the applicants be over the age of 8 before July 21st. So I am DEFINATELY entering, and i'm 28 years old! I cannot wait to go (positive thinking :)

Ok i just went on the US website too, and it's only the US competition that has an upper age limit of 21, and only 7 people will win, against 500 in the UK & Ireland for the book reading, and 1700 in total for the book signing. But Bloomsbury doesn't have any age limit (except 8 yrs old lower age limit with one gardian). Hope that clears the matter, that's what I've understood anyway now if anyone would kind enough to tell me what they think about that resident thing I posted above? (just to reiterate, i AM a uk resident, just not my cousin) cheers xxx and may the luckiest win ;)

This whole competition gives us a glimpse into how the poeple must have felt in Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Everyone trying frantically to find a 'Golden Ticket' for that once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Mr. Wonka :)

I really hope JK will read this, and change her mind, or the ‘mind’ of Bloomsbury.. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve been saving money for many years now to go to London, and looking forward the release of this last book so much, I’m the greatest fan of HP. and of course it's near to impossible to find HP books in english in Ukraine, but i did! i 've read all 6 of them for about134 times ! I’m not rich, I don’t want to say I’m poor, but going to the UK seemed impossible for me , and now, when I have money to go, and when I more than anything hoped to meet JK , it turns out this event is only for the British and Americans. Of course, I am very happy for the children who’ll win, but English children have so many more opportunities for events like this. I’m so frustrated, you know, I feel like I’m some kind of handicapped that I do not get even the hope to go!

lilwitch, I have the exact same problem. I have an American friend staying with me when Deathly Hallows is released, and obviously I want to enter the competition, but don't want to be in the (admittedly extremely unlikely) situation where one of us can go see JKR and the other one can't. I'm going to look and see if there's some sort of contact address anywhere for questions. And Dragonprincess, I know that you're upset that you can't enter the competition, but saying that 'very few kids under 18 actually finish the books' is clearly rubbish. After all, you yourself said you read the books when you were 13. I guess I must have imagined all of those times over the past 10 years when I've queued up for the next Harry Potter book at midnight, surrounded by under 18s who then read it in one sitting. It does seem like an unfair rule, but I guess, with only 7 tickets available for US citizens, they wanted them to go to kids.
I wouldn't be able to go anyway...even though im american, i live far from here at the moment, and besides, a) my parents wont let me and b)what r the odds ill win?
