JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans!
JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans! Jo Rowling has updated her website with her plans for the release of Book 7. According to Bloomsbury:
To celebrate the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on 21st July 2007, J.K. Rowling will be signing the night away at the Natural History Museum in London.

Ten years after publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the launch of this, the final book in the series, returns to where it all began: with a book, the author and her readers.

1,700 fans will have the opportunity to meet J.K. Rowling and have their book signed at the Natural History Museum. The first 500 randomly selected winners will attend the midnight reading with J.K. Rowling. The subsequent signing is expected to last until dawn. Every ticket holder will receive a free book from Bloomsbury Publishing.

Tickets to the event are free and will be available by online draw from 23rd May. The deadline for applicants is 11th June. To apply for tickets visit Bloomsbury's website.
US residents can apply at scholastic.com. Other English-speaking publishers may also be allotted tickets; keep an eye on their websites. (for the US).

Jo says, "It has been a long time since I've done a signing and had the chance to speak to readers individually, so I'm delighted that we are launching the book in this way. It will be wonderful for me to get the chance to speak to people who have already read a few chapters while in the queue!

"Good luck if you're applying for tickets, and if you're successful, I'll see you shortly after midnight on July 21st!"

UPDATE: Good news! Raincoast is now offering one Canadian fan a chance to also participate in this event! Thanks to Shoshana for the tip.

Aww, distressing, the scholastic website is only allowing people under 21 to enter. I turned 21 just last month. Pooh. And I'm not a UK resident, though I will be in London at that time. Guess I'll just plan to pick up my book near the museum and that way I might at least have the chance to hang out with some other really dedicated Potter-heads. Either that or it's time to get one of my under 21 friends to start entering a contest! >:D

Posted by dakapaul May 23rd 2007

Only catch that I am worrying about is the passports, for the kids. Oh well I'll figure that out should we by chance actually win. LOVE the ONE entry per person. I havn't checked your UK rules but the USA winners who are 18-21 can bring a guest of their choice. Under 18 it has to be the parent or legal Guardian. Now if I could just figure out when the date for age restriction is, what I mean is if a child turns 18 after the contest deadline but before the release, which age do they qualify as? Big issue because she(my daughter) may not choose to take me if it is the age at release date. As a parent is the only way I'll be going. Entered because someone has to win the "golden ticket".

I will honestly die of happiness if I'm lucky to be chosen.

Posted by Jerry May 23rd 2007

Time to start bribing top Bloomsbury executives.. hahaha I've entered, I think the odds are better than the lottery at the very least ;) Would be very nice to get a copy signed, if I don't win one, I might write a nice letter to the promoters and say that I'm a photography who would very much like to photograph the event.. worth a try :p

Posted by potterstruck May 23rd 2007

I entered. Worth a try, I guess. It sucks the US only has 7 winners, but it's understandable since they provide airfare, spending money, and hotel for us. The UK citizens only get admittance to the event. Well, we'll see how this goes. I would burst out into tears upon meeting her, much the same as when I met Johnny Depp. She's one of the few tear-worthy people. I do plan to go to the OoTP Hollywood Premiere since I live in Hollywood, but I guess that's the second closest I'll get to a HP event if I don't win this.

Posted by potterstruck May 23rd 2007

What sucks though is, money isn't a problem and I'd be 500% willing to pay my own way on everything, just so I could enter with 1700 winners instead of freaking ... seven.

Posted by hprebel311 May 23rd 2007

I HAVE TO WIN THAT!!!! the end, i just have to. i could die on the plane on the way home and be perfectly happy.

Posted by Flitwick May 23rd 2007

How often can you enter? I would assume it's a one shot deal...but the very vague rules don't specify...

Posted by Quidditch_Queen May 23rd 2007

OMG! You get to take a guest if you win? Sweet! I am so entering my sister and I know she will take me if she wins. I'm the only other Harry Potter fan she knows. Plus I'll kill her if she wins and doesn't take me. I found a way to by pass the under 21 rule! I love my sister and the fact that she is 18 right now! YES! I'm not so sad I'm 22 anymore, LOL.

oooooo im so excited! i think..... yes i am excited *screams*

I was just reading the poll on here, and looking at Scholastic's site and I keep wondering why people want everyone to be at Hogwarts so much for 7? What else is there to happen there that hasn't happened in 1-6. To me it will be good if only a fraction of the story is spent there since it seems like in 5 and 6 that (especially 6) that most creativity in regards to new stuff at the school is non-existant. Quiddich has run its course and I don't see how Harry can go searching everywhere for Horcruxes and be doing a full class schedule (I certainly couldn't manage that). This is gonna be the best book since so mucgh will probably be away from Hogwarts (although it is an awesome place and fun to read about) I bet JKR spent so many pages in 5 explaining the away from Hogwarts magical world since she plans on making it a major storyline in 7. Being at Hogwarts for the whole book, would just slow down the pace.

Posted by asleep_at_the_moment May 23rd 2007

i discovered this on jkrs website a good 9 hours ago but couldnt wait around to be first post as i had work :( oh well. maybe i should enter... thats only a bus ride away from my home town.

Posted by Gryffprefect May 23rd 2007

It would be so nice to win something for once. I have the luck of never winning anything. Ever since I started reading the books in 1999, It has been my dream to actually go to an event like this and see JK Rowling. I once won a ticket to a book signing back in 2001 but unfortuately I couldnt go and had to give my ticket away. I enetered but I know that I have pratically no chance of winning. It would be so nice to get an email on the 11th June saying you won a ticket though, especially during the depressing A Level exam month that I have to endure. Sigh!

Posted by dementor May 23rd 2007

Posted by xylophonefairy May 23rd 2007

OMGOMG!!! Ok, I live in a little town, 30 minutes train ride away from London. It costs me a fiver then I can go wherever I want in Londond for a day, peak. Travel = absolutely no problem. Never before have I been more grateful to my parents for choosing to settle in the town that we live in, despite how crumbly it is around the edges and concretey in the middle. I have a gang, comprising of Me, my sister, and two of my friends, we were going to a midnight release in our town centre. I'm going to enter this tomorrow, then we're going to cross our fingers and hope and pray like we've never prayed before. The 18th is the day before my last GCSE, if I get tickets I will, literally, be jumping for joy and do rubbish. If I don't I'll be depressed and do rubbish. It's weird, I'm getting an almost, good feeling about it. The UK had a fairly big population, but in comparison to other places, it's not that big. Then if you think about how many are Harry Potter fans obsessed enough to come to mugglenet, or a similar site, and find out about this. None of my crew would have known if I hadn't told them, I am the obsessive one out of us. I don't know what I'd say to her, I'd either go really quiet, or I'd ramble on and make an idiot of myself. Well, I don't think I need to worry about that yet. My chances might be considerably better than for all of the millions of canadian fans, but in the contect, they're still quie small. But this is just making me soo incredibly excited about the 7th book! I can't wait now, I have butterflies already! More butterflies than I felt before my Englosh Lit exam yesterday, oh dear... I'm just so incredibly, amazingly excited. Positive thinking, I really really really want a ticket. I'm sounding like a petualnt child! Squeee!

Posted by Dragonprincess25 May 23rd 2007

I just wrote a letter to Scholastic about the age limit!!!!!

Posted by lilysnape May 23rd 2007

Well I think the whole situation is unfair. This should definitely be more open to people all around the world! I've sent my complaints to Scholastic and Bloomsbury though I doubt it will do any good. I hope others will do the same.

Posted by Shmookness May 23rd 2007

First of all, to the people complaining about the 21 and thing, such as DragonPrincess, I understand your pain, but you just admited yourself that you were 13 when you started reading the books and as the years gone by you have continued to be a Harry Potter fan as the books have continued to be written. I was in Elementry school, as I reemember when I started reading the books, I understood them, and finished them, and for you to say that just means you don't know too many people. Many kids have grabbed the Harry Potter books off the selves, paid for them, and read them. The last and only Harry Potter party I went to only contained teenagers. Can you tell that the majority of people on here aren't complaining about not going? What does that tell you? The owner of this website started it when he was twelve. Did you know that? What does that tell you? Most of the fans out there are teenagers, not little kids, but people under the age of 18 are still considered "children" in America until they turn 18. So, technically, these are children's books, and I may just not know a lot of people, but most of the people are know who read the books are teenagers, not adults, and very few adults read the book, and when I talk about adults I talk about people in their 30s and 40s. Also, techinically, Scholastic, is a children's book company and I've seen other things they have written and they are children's books. I feel bad for the other countries that are not getting regonized in this, even though I am an American and under the age of 21. I'm not going to enter though, because I don't have a lot to say to J. K. Rowling or a lot to ask her and I just want to read the book if that is okay with everyone.

Posted by timmy66612321 May 23rd 2007

I really hope i get a ticket. I find this really funny, some people will be traveling from all over the world but I live 1min from the Natural History Museum. I can see it from my bedroom window. LOL

Posted by Real1976 May 23rd 2007

WHAT!!! I cannot enter the Scholastics' sweepstakes because I'm over 21 years of age? Would someone please tell me this is not true??? OFFICIAL RULES #3: Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the United States who are UNDER 21. Crying my heart out!!!!

Posted by lilysnape May 23rd 2007

I still find it disappointing that so many aren't able to enter. Jo why is it mostly only the British can enter! It's been my dream as well but I have to suck it up because I'm 26 years old. Why can't this be open to everyone? Why isn't it open to more people around the world? This is the last book every and perhaps the last book signing she'll ever do. I wouldn't feel so bad if I at least had a chance to win. It's been my dream to go to a book signing. I'm crying I'm so disappointed! :( :(

Posted by Real1976 May 23rd 2007

To Shmookness: It is ok to me if you just want to read the book and if you don't have to say anything to Jo... that is your choice. However, if I had the money to just pack my stuff and go to London believe me I WOULD! So let me dream and complain about not having a chance to enter to win. Some of us do wish to meet in person THE PERSON that has brought literacy and literature back in fashion for the younger generation.

Posted by phantomfluteplayer May 23rd 2007

Wow...Micah strikes again...seriously, does JK listen to every podcast or something? I wish I could meet her. Shes amazing.

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE May 23rd 2007

kool. stupid canadian fan. bluk...

Posted by Lethe01 May 23rd 2007

What about the french fans, huh? I've read every book in english, bought them all from Bloomsbury, and this is the thanks I get? I mean, what are the odds of her actually coming to France, and giving the french a reading? about none to a gazillion against... think of us, darn it! darn you Bloomsbury! But I still looove Jo. This is publishers stupidity right there. UK and Ireland... Pffew... Why don't I live there, you lucky b*st*rds! Only kidding, but I still am pissed off!

Posted by potterlovver814 May 23rd 2007

That's absolutely fabulous! I am going to enter, but doubt that I'll get in. Good luck to everybody though. If any of you win, let us know how it is!! :D

Posted by lil_leo May 23rd 2007

That stinks!!! I'm from the US and under 21, but I'll be in Edinburgh. I thought that was where she would be releasing the book : ( Oh well. I'm entering the contest, but the odds of winning are not great. I dunno who I'd take either, my family has it's own plans, and my friends are away. I guess I'd donate it to mugglenet or leaky so that they would have a contest for a fan who deserves it.
