JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans!
JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans! Jo Rowling has updated her website with her plans for the release of Book 7. According to Bloomsbury:
To celebrate the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on 21st July 2007, J.K. Rowling will be signing the night away at the Natural History Museum in London.

Ten years after publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the launch of this, the final book in the series, returns to where it all began: with a book, the author and her readers.

1,700 fans will have the opportunity to meet J.K. Rowling and have their book signed at the Natural History Museum. The first 500 randomly selected winners will attend the midnight reading with J.K. Rowling. The subsequent signing is expected to last until dawn. Every ticket holder will receive a free book from Bloomsbury Publishing.

Tickets to the event are free and will be available by online draw from 23rd May. The deadline for applicants is 11th June. To apply for tickets visit Bloomsbury's website.
US residents can apply at scholastic.com. Other English-speaking publishers may also be allotted tickets; keep an eye on their websites. (for the US).

Jo says, "It has been a long time since I've done a signing and had the chance to speak to readers individually, so I'm delighted that we are launching the book in this way. It will be wonderful for me to get the chance to speak to people who have already read a few chapters while in the queue!

"Good luck if you're applying for tickets, and if you're successful, I'll see you shortly after midnight on July 21st!"

UPDATE: Good news! Raincoast is now offering one Canadian fan a chance to also participate in this event! Thanks to Shoshana for the tip.

That's awesome! But man, I wish it wasn't just for UK residents (and one Canadian) =(

Posted by Ginny5282 May 23rd 2007

I just sign up as an adult and it never asked me for my age! it just asked if the child was supported by an adult! does this mean it is only available for children? What about the adults that love HP too? Liz

Posted by DondaLonda May 23rd 2007

What about Australia! I want a ticket too! I want a golden ticket! (mmm, chocolate)

Posted by Shmookness May 23rd 2007

Wow.. I don't know why but I want to share this with MuggleNet and the people who come on it, but I was just crying and my I was all nervous about something, that I don't want to get into, and I came on here to check the comments, and it made me feel better.. and I am calm now and I have stopped crying.. I don't know why that is..

Posted by Raven_Claw_Babe May 23rd 2007

I wanna go!!!! *wails* lol

Posted by laurydory May 23rd 2007

Oh! I hope they allocate some tickets for us Aussies. I'm so sick of us missing out on all the fun. Don't we have a stronger connection to the UK than the USA does! No offence Americans, I'm just jealous. I also hope they hold off on the age limit thing here. I'm 22 and quite frankly think I'm a way bigger fan than some of the 11 and 12 year olds who couldn't even read when the book first came out. There was one competition for Australians at the release of HBP to interview Jo but you had to be 12 or something. Not Fair!! Are you with me oldies?

Posted by TheBritishCornflake May 23rd 2007

OK, im actually sad/mad about this. My friend and I will be traveling to the UK from july 7th to the 25th to be there for both releases.... and we already booked a B&B in Edinbrugh, Scotland for the night of the 21st!!! Gah, i want the release party to be in scotland, we will be in london for the movie release!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by blime May 23rd 2007

what about us stupid Americans, can't we get a shot for a plane ticket out there?

Posted by KayBird May 23rd 2007

Oh! So cool! I just finished my entry form and while it's unlikly that I'll win, someone has to right? So maybe me? I did it in green ink too (like hogwarts letters) with a little hogwarts sticker on the back flap...Maybe it'll bring me luck... N8)

Posted by Tinkerbell0578 May 23rd 2007

I am a canadian resident. ONLY ONE person in all of canada gets to go. I find this EXTREMELY unfair as there are as many harry potter fans in canada as there are in the u.k. and u.s. Chances that any canadian who enters the draw will win is one in a million. Literaly.

Posted by jj_lea123 May 23rd 2007

Awww!!!! I wish I could go to that sooooo badly! That's a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Posted by Witchy_Woman May 23rd 2007

I WAS AT THAT MUSEUM ON MY TRIP!!!!!!! ............I wish I could've switched it around now. I'd like to be there.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 23rd 2007

I just entered, and I got my mom to rub the envelope, (she's lucky, oh so lucky.)I don't think I can contain myself. I'll probably be jumping up and down during random moments this week. And to everyone complaining about the age limit, I'm truly sorry. But you don't have to say that children can't comprehend Harry Potter *coughdragoprincess25coug h*, no offence to you though. You're probably just letting off some steam, but just because I was a mere toddler when it first came out doesn't make me any less of a fan than any of you adult fans, or make me understand it anyless. It stinks that only one Canadian fan can go, If I were Canadian I'd be a little upset. And to everyone that lives anywhere other than the U.K, U.S, or Canada, I wish exciting Harry potter events to come your way.

Posted by Dragonprincess25 May 23rd 2007

I do know a lot of people, and just because they show to the parties and buy the books, do NOT mean that they finsh them. I also didn't mean teens, I was more talk about the 4-10 years who would read the books if their parents didn't read it to them.

Posted by hpintwense06 May 23rd 2007

wow. what a disgrace. i just saw the news and they talked about this very chance to go to see Jo read and stuff, and the newscaster was like, "DEADLY" hallows! What a disgrace. People these days.... :-P

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 23rd 2007

Dragonprincess25, I sort of understand what you're saying. But I should let you know, that I do not like that you said 4-10. I have younger friends that are 10 year olds, and it sounds like you're SORT of, sort of being the key words here, insulting 10, 9, 8, even 7 and 6 year olds. I started reading this series, by my own when I was 6. Just remeber that there are children fans that come on here, that read the book fully, and love it just as much as you do.

Posted by ProfessorChristie May 23rd 2007

TheBritishCornflake, I did the SAME THING! I'm visiting the UK this July, and my family and I booked a B&B for the release of Deathly Hallows in Edinburgh! I guess that's what happens when we actually plan ahead, haha... maybe I'll see you there! I'll be one of the ones in Ravenclaw robes!! :)

Posted by ProfessorChristie May 23rd 2007

Ravenclawwisdom, I agree with you about younger people and Harry Potter. As a 19 year old, I get a lot out of the Harry Potter books - but that doesn't mean that younger kids don't get anything out of it. It's possible they get even more out of it, even if it's different stuff. I didn't start reading the series until I was 13, but I bet I would have been just as enthralled if I'd started when I was 8!! P.S. Yay Ravenclaw people! :)

Posted by cdshan May 23rd 2007

I also emailed Scholastic with my complaints on the age restriction. Let's all unite and let them know we as consumers are unhappy.

Posted by Alina May 23rd 2007

I will of course enter in the sweepstakes, but seriously, what are the chances of me winning? 1000000 to 1? Too bad they are only allowing a couple of Americans, and totally ignoring fans from the rest of the world. Good Luck Everyone!

Posted by steffwinkies May 24th 2007

i wanna go..but i cant i live in the philippines! gaaaaahh!! i can afford but i cant fly there becoz....i dont have a visa or anything!!! darn!!!! go JK..thanks for harry potter books..im just gonna buy..and read it my own..sheesh..

Posted by DeAnaCrosson May 24th 2007

YOU HAVE TO BE UNDER 21 TO ENTER IN THE US!!!! How rediculous is that?!?!?! Do they think that the only fans of HP are under 21? I am 23 and am thinking of submitting an entry in the name of my 1 year old daughter. They don't give a minimum age limit. I am furious, if you didn't already guess.

Posted by hp_plot May 24th 2007

thts realllllllllllly COOOOOOOOOOOL...... lucky, those who get 2 go.. wish i could, but i know my parents wont let me......... its tooooooooooo bad i cant go.

Posted by Hollie May 24th 2007

I've entered and my lovely grown-up sister has too. I really, really hope I win a ticket! Hope a Mugglenetter manages to go :D

Posted by laplinp May 24th 2007

Just done my UK one ^_^ Squee! I so hoped I am picked!

Posted by Zoe May 24th 2007

Please let there be one for Australia. It is sooo not fair. UK, US and Canada get one wat about us!!!!!!!!

Posted by Harry_Potter May 24th 2007

I wish Aussie fans got a shot at this. I guess since Australia is so far away theres already like a competition bias which bans Australians from fandoms or something :P

Posted by queeny May 24th 2007

aw wow! i would sooooo love 2 get 2 go! but its all the way in london and im all the way in perth (scotland by the ways) :( she sooo should have done it in edinburgh again! lolz! oh its soooo close to the release! i dont know weather 2 be happy or sad! heehee! xxxx

Posted by weaslebee May 24th 2007

I'm not usually one to complain about age limits in contests or anything of the sort, but come on, 21 or under? It sounds exciting though for those that do win and attend. Definitely something to remember, it sounds like.

Posted by Marion May 24th 2007

what about us poor french fans ??????!!!! it's unfair !

Posted by blastedgoose May 24th 2007

ugh! so unfair! i was so excited to see the canadian fan thing but nooooo had to be 18 and below!!! im 19:( darn! dont they realize that us original fans when book1 came out, when there were no movies or merchandise or anything yet, are mostly over 18 by now? not all, but most, i believe! and we get no chance to enter bec we are old! oh well. good luck to the peeps under 18 then! peace.

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 24th 2007

Try not to be too disappointed, guys. Besides, now that the HP series is written and done with, Jo will have plenty of time to do book signings and travel all over!

Posted by HPFANTimothy May 24th 2007

THAT SOOOOOOO NOT FAIR. WHY THE HELL SHOULD THE US GET THIS OPPORTUNITY AND NOT US HERE IN AUSTRALIA? THEY USE 'SCHOLASTIC,' WOW! **sarcasm** WE HAVE BLOOMSBURY TOO, AS WELL AS THE UK. I MEAN COME ON! WHAT MAKES THE US SO SPECIAL? THEY DO NO MORE THAN US AUSSIES WHEN IT COMES TO THE BOOKS (AND PUBLISHING)

Posted by Marion May 24th 2007

it's so unfair that i wrote a letter to bloomsbury ! i wanna go there ! i wanna meet JKR even if i'm french (and not from UK!!) ! it's the last chance in our lives ! it's the last book !

Posted by vanishingact May 24th 2007

To all the people in the comments who voiced their opinion that it was unfair that only a few countries can go: Check your publishing sites for Harry Potter! There's usually a specific one for each country (eg Bloomsbury for the UK, Raincoast for Canada, and Scholastic for the US). Who knows? You may get lucky. And on the Canadian note... WHY ONLY ONE TICKET?!?!? NOOOOO!!!!

Posted by Harryfan20 May 24th 2007

Wow so many countries..........all united by Harry Potter :)

Posted by yelhsa32 May 24th 2007

You have to be under 21!?!? Well, thats not very fair! I'm 22! I grew up with Harry Potter and I don't even get to participate! How depressing.....

Posted by laetri May 24th 2007

I think I will enter this, even though I wont get it. it cant hurt, right?

Posted by FilmMagic May 24th 2007

I'm confused by the wording of the age limit rule. Does it mean 21 and under or people who are actually under 21 (as in ages 20 and below)? I'm 21 and will be incredibly disappointed if it's the latter. I'm going to e-mail Scholastic and ask, but if I don't receive a reply I'm going to enter anyway. =) Also, the 7 winners limit is kind of lame...but I understand why they chose to go that way. With so many people allowed to attend the event, if the UK contest was open to US citizens who would have to buy plane tickets, there is a huge chance that many people wouldn't actually attend. Think of all the UK fans who could easily attend but couldn't due to too many US fans winning and backing out. I just wish they would have a 10 person limit instead of going with 7, even if this is the seventh book.

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 24th 2007

Marion, just because it's the last book doesn't mean it's your last chance. Jo isn't going to disappear just because the HP series is done. In fact she will probably do more travelling, and go to more book signings when she has the time. Who knows, she may even continue to write.

Posted by Ameeface May 24th 2007

I've entered :) I really hope I get a ticket. I live in Liverpool but my sister's boyfriend will drive my mum and I down there. It does suck that more people from the UK get to go, but it's not always that way round. Yeah, I'm not saying that you guys don't deserve to go. But there are things to do with Harry Potter that happen in the US that we can't go to. & Maybe it was a practical thing anyway, more people from the UK can actually get there without having to spend a load of money. Good luck to everyone :) & I hope you Americans, Australians, Canadians & whoever else get more of a chance for tickets.

Posted by LordVoldemort44 May 24th 2007

If you don't get a ticket can you still go to like a Books-A-Billion and get a copy? I would enter but I'm only THIRTEEN!

Posted by Hollie May 24th 2007

@Lord Voldemort. Of course you can! :D You can still get the book everywhere else, it's just that there will be a lucky bunch of people who will get to meet JK at the same time

Posted by MlleGranger May 24th 2007

Oh, Scholastic....why exclude the over-21 fans? I sent a (polite) email to remind them that many of us started reading HP before 21, and would have loved a chance to meet Jo as much as anyone else. It probably won't get much done, but Scholastic should know that they are doing so many fans a disservice. If you're an over-21 like me, you can contact them by email from the Scholastic website. Good luck to the under-21s, though; you lucky kids!

Posted by ArtemisLykeios May 24th 2007

Interesting emphasis on MOONLIGHT in the title of this news. Between that and the FULL MOON on the back cover of the UK children's version of DH, you'd think Jo was trying to tell us something.... ;)

Posted by fadnin2beautlite May 24th 2007

I'm entering and I know that the chances of winning are very slim but its worth a shot.its fun just to enter.now I just have to ask my parents. =0

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 24th 2007

I'm going to be having too much fun at the midnight party to worry about not being in England!

Posted by yuvalavrami May 24th 2007
