JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans!
JKR announces 'Deathly Hallows' plans! Jo Rowling has updated her website with her plans for the release of Book 7. According to Bloomsbury:
To celebrate the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on 21st July 2007, J.K. Rowling will be signing the night away at the Natural History Museum in London.

Ten years after publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the launch of this, the final book in the series, returns to where it all began: with a book, the author and her readers.

1,700 fans will have the opportunity to meet J.K. Rowling and have their book signed at the Natural History Museum. The first 500 randomly selected winners will attend the midnight reading with J.K. Rowling. The subsequent signing is expected to last until dawn. Every ticket holder will receive a free book from Bloomsbury Publishing.

Tickets to the event are free and will be available by online draw from 23rd May. The deadline for applicants is 11th June. To apply for tickets visit Bloomsbury's website.
US residents can apply at scholastic.com. Other English-speaking publishers may also be allotted tickets; keep an eye on their websites. (for the US).

Jo says, "It has been a long time since I've done a signing and had the chance to speak to readers individually, so I'm delighted that we are launching the book in this way. It will be wonderful for me to get the chance to speak to people who have already read a few chapters while in the queue!

"Good luck if you're applying for tickets, and if you're successful, I'll see you shortly after midnight on July 21st!"

UPDATE: Good news! Raincoast is now offering one Canadian fan a chance to also participate in this event! Thanks to Shoshana for the tip.

Blast! Boo Scholastic! I started reading Harry Potter when I was like 12, but I can't even enter the drawing because I'm 22! Do they not realize the age range of the fans? Are they really that clueless?

Posted by Margaret May 24th 2007

I'm going to be in Mexico. darn.

Posted by LordVoldemort44 May 24th 2007

Hollie Thanks, I was reading the discription and it sounded like that.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 24th 2007

Whoever asked if its 21 and under or under 21 (I'm too lazy to go back and check who asked this.) it's under 21, I'm really sorry.

Posted by Scythe_of_Azrael May 24th 2007

I entered right at 12:00 PM, here in Ontario which is technically 9:00 AM there. Right in the minute. I hope to god I win, I wrote like a small essay for the "Why do you love Harry Potter?" section. Good luck to everyone.

Posted by FilmMagic May 24th 2007

Ravenclawswisdom, Is that official? As in Scholastic responded to an e-mail? Or you are "in the know" somehow? I'm not doubting that you are right, in fact I'm sure you are. I just don't want to abandon all hope until I hear something directly from Scholastic. Pathetic, eh? ^_^;

Posted by ccunni May 24th 2007

I really want to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I am under 21. Maybe I could win!?!?!? :-)

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 24th 2007

FilmMagic, yes it's official. It's stated in the rules, it says bla bla bla, something and "who are under 21", that stinks, and if I were in your position I wouldn't want to abandon all hope either. Maybe a harry Potter fan friend of yours who is under 21 but over 18 can enter and you could be their guest.

Posted by FilmMagic May 24th 2007

Oh well. I'm going to try and get my brother to enter the contest and then go as his guest if he should win. He's 19, so he's under the age limit but he's not a very big HP fan. He enjoys the films, but has only read some of the first book. We shall see. I finally got an e-mail back from Scholastic, but the person who responded said they couldn't answer that question and forwarded it to the New York office. At least my disappointment in their ridiculous age limit is getting a bit of work out of them. =P I understand that they want kids to stand a better chance at getting to go, but they should divide the spoils. Maybe 5 people under 21 and 2 people 21 and over? At least then we'd have a chance at winning.

Apparently DragonPrincess didn't even read my comment, and that is very frustrating. I started reading the Harry Potter series when I was younger than ten. Ravenclawswisdom said that she started reading at six. I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but you are behaving very naivly on this matter and so are many other people. Children under 10 can read everyone, and now that have stated it I hope that it clears matters up. I read Harry Potter when I was about 8 or 9 and I understood and I finished them. Did you know they have the Harry Potter books at my little sister's and brother's library? I saw them bring them home. They also had them at the middle school I went to and they I'm sure they have them at my High School. They are everywhere and for people of all ages. They are seriously not that scary and not that violent compared to other books. To me these book are for children of all ages, and apparently J. K. Rowling thinks so too, because she invited a lot of people in Britain to her signing and book reading, and who is to say things against the author? You? It is her books and it is her opinion on which she says the books are the ages for.

I entered the Canadian one :) There's probably no chance of winning....but, I can still hope :D

Posted by BellatrixAclyon May 24th 2007

why leave out us Americans?!?! ... We are devoted fans :*( ... does rowling not love us too ?!

Posted by luna_phan May 24th 2007

YESSSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOOOO CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg i just entered! ahhhhhh! well its a small chance of winning but what the heck, its fun to enter anyways. my dad randomly entered something once and won a trip for two to germany! keep your hopes up guys!

Posted by MHooch May 24th 2007

Boy, talk about age discrimination!! Not all Harry Potter fans are children, and I haven't seen 21 in many, many, years. But I would so LOVE the opportunity to meet JKR, and have a book signed. I'm glad my local Barnes and Noble doesn't have an age limit for their party!! LOL

Posted by Mauds May 24th 2007

Just entered the canadian one. I can't believe we only get one chance to win. I mean we are apart of the Commonwealth why not give us 10. Goodluck to all that entered.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 25th 2007

That would be a great idea FilmMagic, to split it between peple under 21 and over 21. Why didn't Scholastic think of that? it's brilliant, absolutely brilliant! (I'm hyper, can you tell?)

Posted by hsadhvani May 25th 2007

does anyone know if they are offering signing for the indian fans from india?

Posted by Spanna May 25th 2007

Posted by Holly_Potter May 25th 2007

eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! I entered too...thank goodness I'm only 19! Old enough to go myself, but young enough to enter!!!!!!! Dunno who I'll take with me...:) None of my friends are big HP fans :( Don't think I'll win, but you never know ;) When do they announce the winners?

Posted by Ailsa May 25th 2007

It says one entry per household, and one entry per person... What about my little group of friends who i have bribed into applying and take me as a guest? What if more than one was pulled out of the hat, both with me as a guest... Would i be disqualified? I really, really, really want to go. I would do anything! How many people do you think will enter? I wish i was good at estimating things like this... Good luck to everyone on mugglenet, at lease those from here will be deserving of our tickets! :)

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 25th 2007

Shmookness, don't waste your time with DragonPrincess. She lives for friction. If there isn't any, she'll create it.

Posted by dementors_madness May 26th 2007

I was so upset and belligerent when I discovered that the cut-off limit for entries was 21. The prospect of winning a trip to the UK (of which I'd always wanted to sojourn to) and seeing and possibly meeting the great Author herself and actually hear her read the book was astoundingly brilliant. But alas, as I am 28 years old, I am not eligible, and thus, must sit and wallow in my bedroom. I bid good luck to all of you fans under 21 who submit. May you ALL win, in spirit, and the ones that DO win....bring me back something nice.

Posted by Ronislove May 27th 2007

see im a seriously going to enter this, becuase its worth a try.my mom(mum) does'nt want me too but im doing it anyway without her permission,i am soooo bad.i don't care im a Hard core Harry Potter fan and i need to everything that is related to Harry Potter includeing listening to the book read by J.K.R herself, that would me the ultimate expercience for me.

Posted by DesertRose May 27th 2007

Good luck to everyone who entered! If you get to speak to Jo for God's sake don't waste it the opportunity :D

Posted by Shmookness May 27th 2007

Thank you AnyaMarcos for warning me. It frustrates me that people don't listen, but people are just that way.. I just wanted to say that is a very good picture of J. K. Rowling.. She looks pretty and everything is just right..

I can't believe how much complaining is going on! over 1500 very lucky people will get the chance to meet JKR to celebrate the final book and the majority of post here seem to be bagging the competition or complaining that we don't get a chance to enter etc. the fact that anyone gets to do this is amazing. yes the scholastic comp is only open to those under 21 and i understand that is dissapointing but what an incredible way to foster a love of books in young people. Secondly for those of you writing to complain that we don't get a chance in Australia stop complaing and do your research! if you had spent as much time looking at the aust publishers web site as you did whinging you would know that Australians are getting a chance to enter but the details haven't been released yet. If i get the chance to enter fantastic and if i don't good luck to everyone who can. if you win treasure every moment of the experience it really will be the chance of a lifetime.

Posted by Shmookness May 27th 2007

Amen, Fole77. Well said.
