NOOOOOOOOOOOO THAT'S TOO SHOOOOOORRRTTT !!! Why cant they make it like all those Pirates of the Caribbean movies (which r like 170 mins)........UUUUGGGHHHHH :(

Posted by writergurl013 May 26th 2007

:O too short! I'm anxious to see how they did Fred and George's scene...but, seriously, would it kill them to make a 3 hour movie? apparently so, because 870 pages into a 2 hour 18 minute movie isn't going to work. >:-l

Posted by freakishBBQ May 26th 2007

Awww! That's too short! I really wanted it to be the longest. Why can't they just make a 3 hour movie? I know they can't put every little detail in but still.

Posted by Ginnylostharrytome May 26th 2007

omg that is definitely to short...2 hrs and 18 min to be exact! meanwhile pirates 3 was almost 3 hrs!!!! btw the ending of pirates....NOT COOL!

Posted by hermy_rocks May 26th 2007

like everyone else, i'm surprised that they made the movie that short... i thought it would be at least 2 hours and 30 minutes for sure, but hopefully that number is wrong.... but i guess if the movie is wonderful with that length, i shouldn't be complaining

Posted by SandyDandy May 26th 2007

that makes it the shortest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Posted by GABZx3 May 26th 2007

that is waayyy too short for the longest hp book :[ it deserves at least 3 hours.

Posted by phoenixsong09 May 26th 2007

What's this rubbish about OotP being the shortest? PoA was just 3 minutes shorter. I'm not exactly pleased with this either, as someone said earlier, "I would happily sit through HP for 4 hrs" but I'm sure that no matter what the length is, it will still be an excellent film. SS/PS: 2 hrs 35 minutes (?) CoS: 2 hrs 35 minutes PoA: 2 hrs 15 minutes GoF: 2 hrs 35 minutes (?) OotP: 2 hrs 18 minutes

Posted by tonks May 26th 2007

This is wayyyy too short. Goodness, the 1st movie is even longer! wait. on IMDB IT SAYS ITS 142 MINUtes long!

Posted by grednforge May 26th 2007

That's it?? It looks like they're putting a TON of scenes from the book in, so how are they gonna do it in that short amount of time? Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Posted by JoCool64 May 26th 2007

Yeah! Can't wait!

Posted by deathcabforcutie May 26th 2007

i think they should have just included everything, who cares if its 3 hours long?!

Posted by dizzyshar May 26th 2007

haha I would care, I am gonna attempt to take my will be 3 year old son to see it. When the trailers came out he watched them online for over an hour straight! lol I hope he will be able to sit thru it. :o

Posted by thats_nifty May 26th 2007

... It's the shortest one yet, I believe. And for the longest book of the entire series (so far)? How depressing.

Posted by SofieMalfoy May 26th 2007

If the movie is so darn short, why did they cut off Tom Felton so darn much?! darn, we've waited for so long and It'll all be over in 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Posted by AnnaLena May 26th 2007

that's too short :( and there'll be no Quidditch..this is so stupid. :(

Posted by Mal_Evolent May 26th 2007

OotP is the longest book, but it's not the one with the most plot. A lot of it is slow moving. I bet it was much easier to condense into a 2 hour script than GoF was. I bet there's only one DADA class, and one trip to Hogsmead. The hundreds of pages that lead up to the start of term will only need 20 minutes or so of movie time. From the trailers and scenes we've seen so far, it's looking great - I predict it will be the best film so far (unlike the books, where 4 was way better than 5).

Posted by fadnin2beautlite May 26th 2007

I'm very upset.this is the shortest potter film yet.it should be atleast 2 1/2 hours. come on warner bros this isn't fair.It sounds like they cut a lot of scenes out. They better have an extended version later.I don't understand why they can't make it 3 hrs long.

Posted by bagheera67810 May 26th 2007

What does the rating 12A mean and how does a movie get this rating in Britain? I do have to agree the fifth book was the longest book they could have extended it to maybe three hours. GOF wasn't one of my fav HP movies because they cut out so many good parts of the book. I think every HP fan can agree they would sit in the theatre for 3 hours of joyous bliss!! That should be the next poll question... Would you sit through a 3 hours long HP movie?

Posted by jen_92 May 26th 2007

That's way too short, I don't know why they're so scared of making a 3 hour movie. Lord of the Rings was 3 hours and those movies were still really successful.

Posted by matties_love May 26th 2007

what the @#$%@!!! disney movies are longer than that! if they have it that short you KNOW

Posted by slastankya May 26th 2007

If they were to put all the scenes in it, it'd be WAY longer than 3 hours. It'll be as long as it needs to be, and you'll have DH a week later. No worries!

Posted by Shir May 26th 2007

the longest book in the series has the shortest running time? 138 minutes is way too short for such a long book. don't forget that they add lots of junk that isn't in the book so i predict only a tenth of the book will be put into this film. which is very sad. the book has such great subplots and they're just going to cut everything. BTW, 138 minutes with or without credits? if it's with credits that makes the movie even shorter cause it's about 15 minutes credits. this film is probably going to suck so much just like the fourth one

Posted by HarryPotterFreakers May 26th 2007

How does that compare to the other ones?

Posted by mithril95 May 26th 2007

okay, yes disney movies are longer, but who here can sit through them? not me, and not even a little sis who's eight. really. and don't get me wrong, i love HP and think JKR's a genius more or less, but tolken was way better, and LotR was simply a masterpiece. you can't go comparing HP movies to LotR.

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE May 26th 2007

i thought it would be longer than that! it seems to short. o well. it will still be the best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by LadyM May 26th 2007

All of you guys who r complaining about the length i mean, seriously, how much shorter than the longst potter movie is it? 30 mins.? look, weve seen trailers and screen caps, e.t.c, and it looks as though MOST of our fave scenes are in it (alright, i admit i miss weasley is our king, chocolate in the library, and lucky you, but we can make sacrifices) and most of us trust Yates by now ( I do anyway), so have some faith in him. I think he'll make OOTP great, even if its not as long as the way Columbus used t do it. when you see OOTP and then reread the book we'll all probably find out that most of what they cut is the long traveling (the thestral ride alone physically took about1 hour for the sextet to get to the ministry) and alot of extra detail. And if you're the pessimist look at it this way: it's not gonna be as bad as PoA. I think 2 hrs. 18 minutes is perfectly fine.

Posted by LindaW May 26th 2007

Okay, I know it's the shortest film, but guys- If you actually look at the 5th book, most of it is description! It has the least amount of dialogue. Everything is describing Harry's thoughts, and what he's going through. So, like, 5 pages of description can become 30 seconds of movie. Honestly, I'm not surprised that it's so short, and I'm sure it will do justice to the book. =]

Posted by hurricanerosie May 26th 2007

that's like 20 mins shorter than all the others =S this is the longest book so far people!!! aww they're have gonna have to cut like most of the book out... no fair *pouts*

Posted by scurvy_cur May 26th 2007

@_@ should have been three hours! I hoped after GoF scared off all the little ankle-biters we might get a decent length this time! well im still hoping this will be the best movie yet, it does look promising from the trailers but a lot of the time the thing that lets it down is the scene length, which of corse you cant tell from trailers, they can make the film seem choppy when they're too short.

Posted by WesleyIII May 26th 2007

That's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAYYYY to short. Gosh . . . I'm not so sure that I like the idea of this guy doing the next film. They sure as heck better make an extended version.

Posted by ronlives99 May 26th 2007

thats the shortest out of them all..wayyyy too short im still going to see it though i say it shouldve been 3 hrs.

Posted by eyeheartlupin May 26th 2007

Haha you guys are all crazy, complaining it's too short.. yeah it's the longest book but there was so much that could be cut in this book. Movies are all about action, you know... the book had a lot of "okay Harry is here, now he has to be here and let's get him here.." whereas in a movie they can just go to a new scene, lol. I don't think we'll be too disappointed with the movie.. as long as we see Harry upset in the beginning, Harry more upset in the middle, and Harry very upset at the end, we can't complain. (although if they skimped on the Fred and George parts I will be mad!)

Posted by zacharypotter May 26th 2007

what most people don't realize is that they usually CAN get everything jammed packed into a two and a half hour movie these days. and while the movie will be two hours and 18 minutes, everybody who saw any of the others will go see it, aqnd they'd go see it if it was 4 hours or one hour. obviously things have had to be cut, and i hope there will be loads of deleted scenes. but i guess we're just lucky that nobody has found out that yates has done mainly TV and porno-type stuff.

Posted by braders101 May 26th 2007

PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN.. 3HRS LONG! HARRY POTTER ORDER OF THE PHEONIX.. 2HRS 18 MINS something is WAY wrong here!

Posted by luv_hp_4ever May 26th 2007

i think that 2 hours and 18 minutes should be long enough without getting boring... i hope they dont have to rush it like with GoF... the third task was like a scene after the second... im excited!!!!!!!!! it should be good, and i like the length cuz hopefully no one will have to get up and go pee in the middle of it and as a result, miss some of it... that is what happens when they are too long!! but it better not be rushed!!!!! okay, now im convincing myself that it needs to be longer... at least 2 1/2 hours... mayab 3?!?!?!?!?! haha... i could watch i forever and not complain so, we shall see...

Posted by xshannonx May 26th 2007

I think this is pretty alright considering most of OotP is mostly description, as many other people have said. It's about the quality of the film for me. Shorter but sharper.

Posted by zacharypotter May 26th 2007

why is everybody comparing this film with Pirates of the Caribbean? I mean, sure they're both blockbusters of this summer, but PotC wasn't even a book, nor was it quite three hours long. wow.

Posted by decwizard May 26th 2007

i heard that they changed the prophcy

Posted by LordVoldemort44 May 26th 2007

Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't the other movies been longer? Such a thick book so little time!

Posted by queeny May 26th 2007

lol thats cool! its still like 2 hours so eventhough it would be cool if it was longer im happy! lol if it was longer it mite put ppl of goin 2 c it! well younger kids nyhoo! i mean i couldnt imagine my wee bro sitting through nylonger than that! and hes 9!

Posted by kaj9201 May 26th 2007

THIS SUCKS!!! OMG! IT SHOULD BE SOOOO MUCH LONGER!!! NOT FAIR!!

Posted by Silverswan May 26th 2007

That's a good length for the film.

Posted by SomebodyElse May 26th 2007

Mal_Evolent: actually, I liked the fifth book the best out of the sixth published. Hopefully DH will usurp OotP, though. I agree--just 138 minutes!!!!!!!! Come on!!!!!!!! But really . . . the detail and length that works in a book can't always be translated into a movie version.

Posted by harmony May 26th 2007

i'm gonna try to not get mad that its sooo short until i see it...if the editing is good and it portrays the book well than i will be happy but if it doesn't than i will have to be mad... ~Sarah

Posted by Slytherin15 May 26th 2007

aw man! i was expecting an almost 4 hr movie! o well, at least its more that 2 hrs long. itll still be good

Posted by TreRadical May 26th 2007

thank god. that's the perfect time for me.

Posted by hermyown7777 May 26th 2007

for all you people's info that is like 1 min longer than the last one (which was absolutley NOT! 258 MINUTES WeasleyGirl!!! duh duh duh!) i think that is great time! almost two and a half hours! You people should be excited not disapointed! and to think we call you potter fans if you cant even appreciat the movie!! grr to you all!

Posted by antinous May 26th 2007

Longest book, shortest movie? I'm calling for a general strike. Topple the government.

Posted by hermyown7777 May 26th 2007

who cares people at least we have a 5th harry potter movie! this is my second post today on this story and frankly i am truly annoyed how ungratful you people are! most of this book is description ( which is TOTALLY NOT a bad thing) but in a movie you have a visual so there is no need for description USE YOUR MIND PEOPLE!!!
