138 minutes??? This is an outrage!!!!! All 3 lord of the rings movies were 3+ hours and ootp is twice as long as those books!!!! Grrr.....and it's the shortest movie in the series!!! How are they gonna incorporate the story into 2.3 hours?

Posted by smartlittlewitch May 26th 2007

I can't believe it! It's way to short compared to the other movies. And I thought the fourth one was too short. How are they gonna fit the whole book into that short a time? They better not cut out good scenes but i bet they did. they should have a l-o-n-g movie with an intermission. that'd be cool!

Posted by hermyown7777 May 26th 2007

you no what people there is probably only about 15 comments that are GOOD about the movie!! that just gets me verrrryyyyyyy MAD!!!!

Posted by BetZZZlovesHarry May 26th 2007

2 hours and 18 minutes....its a pretty good length but i wish it was longer!!!! o well at least its not REALLY short...IM SO EXCITED!

Posted by LindseyBindsey May 26th 2007

Oh please, do you people really think children (and HP is a children's series) will sit through a 3hr+ movie? I don't think so. You're being a bit selfish if you think that that wouldn't matter. WB has to appeal to the masses. Not 7% of the population that are Harry Potter dorks. This movie will no doubt be a box office hit even if it was 30mins long.

Posted by BetZZZlovesHarry May 26th 2007

LindseyBindsey...i somewhat agree with you but HP is said to be a childrens series but i feel its really for all ages. And since OOTP is Pg-13, i don't really think many "children" are going to be there. I think most people can last through a long movie as long as they're interested and have wanted to see it.

Posted by MiroMage May 26th 2007

i dk, personally, i think 138 mins is way too short. i mean look at the size of the other HP books in comparrison to this one. they are a lot shorter, yet the movies are longer? they must have left a lot out again. thats going to bother me :/

Posted by LindseyBindsey May 26th 2007

I know what you mean, hermyown7777. Some people don't get that LOTR were not children's novels so they could be 3hrs long. And don't worry, all these "HP movie haters" will go see the film multiple times. As they always do. It suprises me how after seven years of HP movies being released, some people still expect EVERY scene from the books to be in the movies. Come on people... you can't be that dumb.

Posted by LindseyBindsey May 26th 2007

BetZZZlovesHarry, JKR is a children's author, HP is a children's series but it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It's only rated PG 13 because cinema is a different medium, I think. When you're reading, you make up your own images in your head. But seeing it on a screen is different.

Posted by IAteUmbridge May 26th 2007

That seems so short, especially considering what we've found out they kept in...

Posted by polkadots56 May 26th 2007

i don't know what you all are talking about... i think its fine! i am actually really happy. last night i saw pirates of the carribiean and that was 2hr 45 min... and i thought that was a little long, but i love hp 10x more so this time is awesome for me.

Posted by Tony_the_Terrible May 26th 2007

Unfortunately, the movie business is not about fandoms, its about money. They figure they could make the same amount of money on a 2 hour movie as a 3 hour movie, and its cheaper to make a 2 hour movies, so there you go. I don't like it, but its reality. By the way, this was not for Warner Bros., maybe their version of the movie will be longer.

Posted by Tony_the_Terrible May 26th 2007

Actually, Hermyown7777, the last movie was 153 minutes, which is a solid 15 minutes longer than this one. (Duh! Duh! Duh!)

Posted by crookshanksT19 May 26th 2007

that is way too short!!!! i just came back from a 3 hour long movie!!!

Posted by TwilightxShadow May 26th 2007

138 minutes long? That's like 2 hours and 18 minutes, isn't it? I don't know......it even though that's a decent amount of time for a movie, it just seems...a bit too short for the "longest book in the series." I don't know. So far I've been slightly disappointed with the changes the director made but I can't really judge until I see it. Let's just hope the final product will be amazing.

Posted by Sincerely_S May 26th 2007

Wow that's surprisingly short. So many things will be cut.....I hope it turns out well though.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 26th 2007

Well as long as it's good, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean At worlds end last night it was 2 hours and 45 minutes long it was just 27 minutes longer then the Harry Potter movie. I really hope they make the movies longer in the future though, I remember watching GOF and then SS/PS on tv and I was shocked to remember how much longer it was.

Posted by toast10 May 26th 2007

i hope it is shorter tha Gof by butt not soooo num (i luv the way the uk gets it earlier, im so happy 2 b a brit!)

Posted by tomriddle936 May 26th 2007

WHAT THE HELL?! As everyone else already said, that's wayyyyy to short, shorter than average movies, and Order of the Phoenix book's HUGE. Kinda disappointed, in the trailer it looked like they weren't skipping much...

Posted by LadyEvelyn May 26th 2007

I'm not complaining because most of the critics on the big blockbuster hits were complaining about the length of the movies, esp. with PotC...of course, with HP it's different. : ) I would have loved it to be at least 2 hr. 30 min. long but if the story line goes smoothly and not rushed like GoF, then I'm fine.

Posted by HPtears101 May 26th 2007

Ok - NOT EVEN FUNNY. it's too short! i mean, lord of the rings was 3 and a half hours and we didn't complain that much! It won 11 academy awards! Seriously, i doubt any of us would mind to go to a three hour harry potter movie- AND THIS BOOK IS THE LONGEST ONE! the movie looks great in the clips, but it seems wayyyy to short and some other things they changed (the length of dumbledore's talk and others)

Posted by K8y May 26th 2007

No! I wanted it to be really long! I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 today, and it was 2 hours and 40 mins! They showed the OOTP trailer at the beginning and I was like yelling really loudly and pointing at the screen - they only showed the shortest version, though, which I was annoyed at. But there was a huge cardboard figure showing life-size cutouts of all the main characters in this huge scene that took up like half the floor of the cinema! They also had the movie posters and another cardboard figure outside some of the screens - I was jumping for joy!! :-)

Posted by hpintwense06 May 26th 2007

what??? I was really hoping it would be longer than that! I just saw Pirates 3, which was almost 3 hours long! In my own personal opinion, I think that Pirates 3 was the BEST movie EVER! My new favorite movie! I was really hoping for a long Harry Potter 5 movie! dang. Oh well, I'm sure it'll still be good, though.

Posted by joelephant May 26th 2007

WAHHHHHHH!!! That is way too short!!! :(

Posted by Anjyp May 26th 2007

I beg to differ with most of you. You say it's too short? Well consider that both Spider-man 3 and Pirates 3 were nearly 3 hours and they both were way too long. I felt like my butt was growing into the seats by the end of both, and I just couldn't wait to get out of the theatre. And plus, if you look at the story of OotP, it's actually pretty simple and probably the least complex oif all of the books. The reason it's so long is because there's so much new stuff going on that Jo had to explain that most of the book ends up being unessential stuff. Try mapping the story out if you really care to... it's pretty easy if you just stick to the stuff that is ultra important. Cut out Dobby and all the other junk that you guys whine so much about and get to the meat! I thought that GoF worked perfectly with all the stuff they cut, and I still think it was a little long. Unless the film is intense and extremely amazing - or the last one - I do not support a three hour running time. Three hours is just too much and totally unnessesary for OotP. Maybe DH, I don't know, but not OotP. The only reason I think LotR got away with three hour running times is because they were absolutely superb and intense and emotional, and I'm not saying that Harry Potter isn't, but I'm saying it's not yet at that level. Hopefully the last one will reach it. But sometimes the movie - like Spider-man 3 - doesn't deserve the time the filmmakers give it. And it's like they're dumping on an extra half-hour of footage just because they can. IT'S PERFECT!

Posted by muggle_born May 26th 2007

That is way to short, actually. An 800+ page book compressed into 2 hours and 18 mins? Well, at least we can say they should get right into it...even though the book did too. Ohh well, I am still going to see the movie, and if that stinks, we still have the book! Still, book 5 is my favorite, so I expect a lot from this movie. Ohh, and "Anjyp", what do you mean by "Cut out Dobby and all the other junk that you guys whine so much about and get to the meat!"? Now Dobby is junk? And I personally would love to see a four hour HP movie for OotP! There is always the DVD extras to look foward to. (thats sad. We dont have the movie and I am waiting for the DVD)

Posted by deathlyfilms May 26th 2007

I'm ok with this movie's length. I like the HP movies (my favs being part 3 & 4) because they maintain the magic of JK Rowling's books without trying to keep all the details.

Posted by RKRK1313 May 26th 2007

yeah so i saw pirates of the carribbean last night and it was almost 3 hours long. this is actually making me mad that they keep doing this to the harry potter movies. this movie should be about 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Posted by hermyown7777 May 26th 2007

thnx sooo much lindseybindsey for agreeing with me!!!! you are one of the few people that does! and you have great points children will NOT be able to sit through 3hr movie!

Posted by krum_and_ron_are_sexy_beasts May 26th 2007

WHAT??????? that is way to short!!! I saw Pirates of the Carribean 3 last night and it was three hours long!! It is the longest book in the series and they make it fricken short! They are taking everything that isnt the main part that is awesome and not having it!!!! OH WELL

Posted by band_geek11 May 26th 2007

that's actually not very long... i was hoping for at least 3 hours. how're they spose to fit all the important stuff in? grr:-(

Posted by hpwiz812 May 26th 2007

yeah...um...thats kinda short....

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX 3+ HOURS PETITION! http://www.p etitionspot.com/petitions /Harry_Potter_Order_of_Ph oenix

Posted by phoenixknight May 26th 2007

I AGREE WITH Anjyp, THE MIDDLE PART DOES DRAG IN THE BOOK, AND JKR SAID SO, THAT'S WHY THE FILMMAKERS DID THAT EARLY SCREENING, TO SEE WHAT OTHERS THOUGHT. SO THIS PLOT IS THE SHORTEST. AND I ALSO AGREE WITH Anjyp, GOF IS THE BEST HP MOVIE YET.

Posted by sirius_is_alive_232 May 26th 2007

i hope it won't bore us to death

Posted by browncoat May 26th 2007

Oh please, not a petition. You think that's going to work? And it's actually 2 hours 30 minutes, not 2 hours 20 minutes or whatever.

Posted by performingmonkey May 26th 2007

It seems they may have cut it down from how long it was at the screenings. 2hr18min is long enough though. The only reason GoF was longer is all the action they milked in the tasks. In Ootp it will only take them 5 minutes to do the Grimmauld Place sequences when a LOT of the book is set there. And they've cut Quidditch, the Quibbler, St Mungo's, Firenze and a lot of the Cho stuff.

Posted by megblack89 May 26th 2007

Nope, 2.3 hours is definately not enough. I was hoping closer to 3. I hope what it lacks in length it makes up for in the wow factor.

Posted by browncoat May 26th 2007

After all, wouldn't you want quality over quantity?

Posted by sirius_is_alive_232 May 26th 2007

i wish it was longer!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Kareen May 26th 2007

Barely over 2 hours? Oh geez, this better not turn into another fiasco like Prisoner of Azkaban. -Shrugs- Oh well, at least it's PG-13.

Posted by zonko May 26th 2007

WTF???? chamber of secrets was 161 minutes long!!!! this book is sbout three times bigger and it gets less screen time??? im pissed

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever May 26th 2007

As everyone else said already I wish it was longer too!

Posted by Ferder May 27th 2007

Alrighty folks, prepare for another visual Cliff Notes edition of HP. A word of advice: Don't read the book just before seeing the movie! ! It'll be impossible to enjoy the movie since the whole time you'll just feel like everything's rushed and you'll notice everything that's left out. I agree with Anjyp's point that OOTP, despite it's size, doesn't have all that much plot that needs covering in the movie. I'm sure they'll just do what they always do and only give the secondary characters a couple of lines each (like we've already found out they've done with Belatrix).

Posted by jayhawk_1 May 27th 2007

I guess that's alright ain't that about what POA was? I went to see POTC AWE and i saw at the theater that it was like 142

Posted by Ronislove May 27th 2007

i wish it was longer...but oh well i happy with what ever i get!!

Posted by steffwinkies May 27th 2007

yah, i agree with you all...too short!! they should do like in pirates of caribbean (which is my second favorite..Johnny Depp!!) anyway, ootp is my favorite then, they only did it for 2 hours? gah..they make over loco here..hmp! they should followed Disney (again pirates of the caribbean)..haha..however ..the trailers and clips are spectacular..i hope that they will not ruin this..like in GoF..(i felt dissapointed..)..let's see then..new director..hmmm..i still love Cuaron though..cheers!

Posted by Neurons May 27th 2007

I think it should've been an hour longer, or else everything's gonna feel really rushed. And that would really suck.

Posted by phoenixknight May 27th 2007

SERIOUSLY GUYS! THINK! EVEN IN THE EARLY SCREENING WARNER BROTHERS DID TWO MONTHS AGO, THE MOVIE-GOERS AND THE HP AND SMOE HARDCORE-HP FANS COMPLAINED THAT THE MIDDLE DRAGGED ALOT, WHICH IS TRUE! THE REASON WHY THE OOTP IS LONG IS BECAUSE JK ROWLING HAD TO INTRODUCE NEW MATERIAL IN THE BOOK AND THE PLOT WAS MORE TWISTED AND COMPLEX AND MATURE. SOMETIMES AS I READ IT UP TO 5 PAGES OR EVEN MORE WILL BE SPENT ON RETRACING THE PAST, OR DETAILING THE CHARACTERS. THAT'S WHY JKR IS SUCH A GREAT AUTHOR, HER DETAILS ARE VERY DESCRIPTIVE. EVEN JKR SAID THAT OOTP PLOT IS ONE OF THE SHORTEST LIKE POA. GOF'S PLOT IS LONGER THAN OOTP. JKR SAID THAT THE OOTP COULD HAVE BEEN SHORTER THAN GOF, BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH STUFF TO INTRODUCE. SHE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE MUCH TIME TO RAMLE ALOT LIKE SHE DID IN GOF. THESE ARE THE MAIN IMPORTANT THINGS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 5TH MOVIE. 1. UMBRIDGE 2. DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY 3. HARRY AND CHO 4. THE DREAMS IN THE DOM 5. THE "SECRET WEAPON" THOSE ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR THE COMPLICATIONS, WHICH ISN'T GOING TO BE AS LONG AS LOTR! WHO CARES ABOUT ALL THE EXTRANEOUS STUFF LIKE DOBBY, OR ST. MUNGO'S, OR QUIDDITCH. OTHER THAN MUNGO'S, IT'S "BEEN THERE DONE THAT" AS YATES SAID. I DON'T REALLY CARE AT ALL ABOUT DOBBY, SO LONG AS KREACHER IS GOING TO BE THERE, HE'S MORE IMPORTANT IN OOTP. I'M GLAD HOW WB HASN'T REVEALED HIM YET IN THE TRAILERS. DOBBY SHOULD BE IMPORTANT IN HBP ALONG WITH KREACHER. SO 138 MINUTES IS PERFECT FOR THE MOVIE! ONLY THE MOST DEMANDING, ANNOYING, AND PRICKLY OF THE HARRY POTTER PURISTS WILL HAVE ANYTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ONE, JUST LIKE GOF. JUST LIKE WHAT DAN RADCLIFFE SAID, "THE BOOK IS THERE IF YOU WANT TO READ THE BOOK",...'NUFF SAID.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 27th 2007

pheonixnight, I honestly care about St. Mungo's. I loved it when Ron met up with the medieval healer, I was laughing my head off. Dobby was sort of important in the 4th movie, and they cut him from it. More importantly, they cut Winky, I know Jo approved it, but Winky would've made the movie a little better, in my opinion. And how are they going to introduce Dobby back in the 6th movie I wonder. I'm sure the movie will be fantastic, but I'll really miss those scenes, at least I can imagine it in my head.
