Laura Mallory fails again
A judge in Gwinnett County, Georgia ruled on Tuesday that the Potter books can stay in school libraries (after local concerned parent Laura Mallory tried once again to have them banned from schools and libraries). After all of these attempts in court, Mallory has finally admitted she may "need a whole new case from the ground up."

Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

insanity- repeating the same task over and over again but expecting different resluts Sound like anyone we know??

Posted by lennyseberet May 30th 2007

Ms. Mallory, If you are reading this (I doubt it) please understand that we, as children, adolescents, and adults, realize that the Harry Potter books are a fictional story. I myself am a Christian as well and have no hope to convert to wicca. Please, if you're reading this, give us a break and let us read our story in peace. If you wish to prevent your own children from reading these books, that is your choice, however please do not force your opinions upon others countless times. The definition of insantiy entails, and I quote, "Repeating an activity without change but belief of a different result." Please, do not continue to provoke the anger of thousands of avid readers around the world, for if you do, I fear that your cause will be your downfall. Sincerely, Lenny

HAHAHAHA !! stupid woman :P

Posted by cleavis20 May 30th 2007

When are people going to realize that books, movies, video games, music...these do not cause children to become satanic. Now parents that refuse to let their children's imaginations grow and go to court to battle against a children's book...those I can see causing some issues with a child. Not all christians have this belief..just so everyone knows. My pastor did a whole series on Harry Potter and the likenesses between the boy wizard and a god-like person. It was amazing really the parallels that are in there! I was fascinated actually, not because I am a big fan but because I failed to look at the books in that light. Anyways, 9 times out of 10 people persecute things they fail to understand. I am sure this woman's tiny one track brain couldn't possibly wrap around all the deep and intellectual things within these pages. What a horrible thing to give children, especially now with all the high tech outlets for kids, a reason to pick up a book and expand their minds. History does have a tendency to repeat itself, this is not the first book to cause controversy and it will not be the last. She just needs to get her head out of the Bible and pick up something else for a change. Not something that will save her soul but something that will save her sanity!

is it not about time she gave up?

Posted by loopydoodoo May 30th 2007

WHAT NOW!

Posted by Staplegunneddxx May 30th 2007

ha serves her right! she insane! there is nothinggg wrong with these books at all. i hope she finds that out. geez...

Posted by TheMuggleFromAnywhere May 30th 2007

laura mallory is a fool. there is and was no way she could have gotten the harry potter books banned. the only reason she is going after harry potter is that the harry potter books are so popular. but there are so many books with the same stuff in them that you would have to ban millions of books that had magic, wizards and all the rest of magically related subjects.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom May 30th 2007

lennyserbet, actually instead of thousands of avid readers, I would say millions. Laura Mallory, if there is one thing I wish I could say to you is, children are not stupid. When I was younger everybody highly underestimated my ability to tell between fiction and reality. I got so annoyed with them, and Laura Mallory you are one of them. But you have to admit, she's been a great source of entertainment. All of us Harry Potter fans have been laughing our heads off at her feeble attempts to remove the books from public schools in one county.

Posted by TheBombTechnician May 30th 2007

As a Christian, this woman embarrasses me. At least read the books before slamming them with crap like this.

Posted by Lyssakate May 30th 2007

someone really should hug this woman. she needs a hug. shes pretty much crazy.

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

There have never been truer words said, lennyseberet. I mean, she's never even read the books in their entirety. C'mon, has she ever heard of fiction? I'd hate to see what she says about Lord of the Rings or even Chronicles of Narnia. Why would she to such desparate measures to ban completely amazing books anyway? I'm sure there are thousands of people that don't like Harry Potter, but they're not going to court over. Other than that, all I have to say is she really needs to find something better to do with her time.

Posted by alluringseraphim May 30th 2007

Okay, after reading just the first page of comments, I do have something say. While I agree with all of the officials that have turned her down, all of the media isn't telling the entire story. They're leaving out details of it. I, for one, am a huge Potter fan. I've read every book multiple times and am one of the hundreds at the midnight releases when every book comes out. I'm glad they've decided not to ban them. However -- Being from Georgia, she was on a local radio station's morning show the last time she lost and she made a few good points. She's not wanting them banned from everywhere like the media is proclaiming - she's wanting them banned by rating. (IE: The movies for these books have been PG13 - Why can't the books be as well?) She wants them banned from elementary schools' libraries because she thinks they are too young for 5-10 year olds. Now, look at it from the perspective of a parent. If your child is 8 years old and they want to pick up a Harry Potter book, think of what that book could, possibly, teach them. HONESTLY, not every parent wants their child to learn that the world isn't full of happy-go-lucky-everybody' s-nice people. It's full of perverts, hypocrites, psychopaths, serial killers, rapists, murderers, etc. Would you want your child to know that? At such a young age? I certainly would not. Once they were older, sure - but 8 years old is way too young, in my eyes, to teach my child that. As for her children, her daughter is the one that started all of this. She read the first book and "claims" it lead her down the path to witchcraft and devil worship. I have no sympathy for her children. As for her "We need God back in schools." For this, she's an imbecile. There's this thing.. it's called separation of church and state. I guess that only applies when it's not HER god. And for that, she's hypocritical. /End Rant

I think Laura Mallory's already got what's coming to her more than once and is just too stubborn to notice. If she still doesn't notice after this, then I may just have to scream! Get over it, lady! IT'S FICTION!!!!

Posted by tlutz1211 May 30th 2007

HA HA! And the "devil's book" wins again.

Posted by Jo_H May 30th 2007

LOL! Laura Mallory = Fail

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 30th 2007

I read "Finding God in Harry Potter" a few months ago, and I contacted the author and he sent Ms. Mallory a copy of his book on CD. If she'd listen to it, she'd realize that she is lashing out at something that is more of an ally than the enemy. There are a lot of Christian themes and good GENUINE CHRISTIAN values in the books. Not the warped version of Christian values that seem prevalent these days.

Posted by Songmaker May 30th 2007

Roflcopter.

Posted by Taylrawr May 30th 2007

I live in the same state as this woman. Actually, only a county over. You would not believe the support she has here.

Posted by Rupert_Roxs09 May 30th 2007

That is awesome but she will probably come back and try again. Ten bucks she tries to say it supports homosexuality as well (but there is nothing wrong with it though so dont jump for that comment ;) Thats what every bible beater is using now a dayz.

Posted by polkadots56 May 30th 2007

haha...owned.

Posted by cleavis20 May 30th 2007

I agree with a lot of what you say, alluringseraphim, but there are parts I don't get. Yes, my son is 7 and I believe he is too young for the books past book 4. They get much darker I think it may bother him to read them. No, I don't think we should in any way shape or form protect our children from all of the bad. The gruesome details, of course. But the truth of the matter is bad stuff happens. Bad people are out there and sometimes kids are not safe. For this reason I want my son to know this. Kids are not safe anymore. He has to be alert. He has to know the dangers that are there. And if Harry Potter gives him a sense of this than so be it. I think that Harry Potter can also give them another dose of reality. Sometimes kids are brave. Sometimes they do what is right without being told. Sometimes kids can bring good back again. And with the help of really good friends even the bad situations don't seem so bad. I think this woman is an idiot...that I will never deny. And it sounds like her child has been infected by adults that talk too much. I have never known any child that is 8 years old say "Mom, I think this book is going to make me worship satan." Oh come on! That was either planted in her head or it is a made up conversation. No child would even know to say that! If they do then they need therapy not a book taken away!

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

Hm, I guess the media is stretching the truth a little bit, but seriously, if the parents don't like the books, don't let your kids read them, but don't prevent other kids from reading them. I still think she's crazy, wasn't she saying she was going to go to Federal Court now?

Posted by WeasleyForMe May 30th 2007

Her children must be so embarrassed to be related to her.

Posted by harypoterluv May 30th 2007

NO! NO! NO!!!!! ITS ONLY OPEN TO UK RESIDENTS!!!!! THAT TOTALLY BUILT UP ALL MY HOPES AND CRUSHED THEM AGAIN!!!!!!! NOOO!!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOOO DEPRESSED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Avalon May 30th 2007

Good news at last! Though there could hardly be any other decision, could there?! :) If this woman ever won the trial, I would probably loose my faith in rational thinking human beings :|:|:|:|:|:| Read the books first, then start talking about them - as far as I know no one has started workiping the Dark Lord because of them. D'oh. I'm not going to post about this woman ever again - she makes me too angry and is definitely not worth my nerves. :(:(:(:(

Posted by LaurenWeasley May 30th 2007

HAH! take THAT laura! -gigglesnorts-

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

Cleavis20 "Kids are not safe anymore. He has to be alert. He has to know the dangers that are there." You sound like Mad-Eye Moody, but I completely agree with you!

Posted by cleavis20 May 30th 2007

Thank you, I am a little Mad Eye Moody-ish! LOL

Posted by phoenixknight May 30th 2007

I agree with that one you said cleavis20. Wow, you sound like one of the oldest guys here if your son is 7. But i agree. from 4-7, the books start getting darker and more violent, obviously not as much as those gun, gangster or other movies, but the parent ought to teach their kids what is real and what is fake. I don't think Laura "Malfoy" knows that. If there were many parents like cleavis20, the world would be soo much better.

Posted by HarryPotterFreakers May 30th 2007

She is such and idiot. They make a lot of fun of her on Mugglecast and it is great.

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

All, right anyone who is a devil-worshiper on this sight, please raise your hand. ... no one? ... Yeah, thats pretty much what I thought.

Posted by cleavis20 May 30th 2007

Thank You, phoenixknight, I am really not that old. 27 actually...just had my son young! He thinks I am dork so thanks for the encouragement. I just always believe in the truth. I have never known a kid to die from being told the truth. Anyway, if he ends up worshipping satan I will come back and say that I was wrong. But so far he wants to be a pastor when he grows up so I think I am doing something okay!! I am still laughing about the Mad Eye Moody comment because that is so me!! LOL

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

Lol, Cleavis, you sound like him, which is totally awesome. I really don't see any encouragement to do any Satanic Arts because of Harry Potter at all, and I've read all of the books about 7 times. I really can't see how mallory could possibly find anything satanic about Harry Potter if she hasn't even read them properly. *eyeroll* I hate it when people judge stuff by its cover, which is exactly what she's doing.

Posted by Blankey May 30th 2007

This deranged soccer mom just needs to give it up and find more useful things to do with her time. Top 150?

Posted by july21tillhp7 May 30th 2007

ok if your a witch cause you read harry potter, raise your hand! anyone?? nobody?? good! ~what more proof do u need laura??? as u can see no1 here is a witch cause they read harry potter!! also goths, emos, gangsters dont come from harry potter(like she said on fox news earlier today)

Posted by phoenix_in_flight May 30th 2007

Omg, she should just give up and realize that we potter fans shall always win...... and she shall always lose! lolz

Posted by Azazel May 30th 2007

Take that Christianity!

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

Hey now Azazel, not all Christians are like that, I mean there are freaks in every group. I'm a die-hard Christian as well as a die-hard Harry Potter fan. You musn't judge an entire group of people because of one person in that group.

Posted by hpintwense06 May 30th 2007

HAHAHAHAHA! Yay! Laura Mallory loses again! lol well I hope she stops trying. She's just going to keep losing.

Posted by cleavis20 May 30th 2007

It is the same thing with music. How many times has say Marilyn (not spelled right) Manson been closed down because he causes people to worship satan? LOL I am really showing how old I am here but is he still cool? Anyways, I listened to him when I was younger. Never worshipped satan, I did wear A LOT of black, but never killed any chickens or anything! Soccer moms need to take a break. They are too "involved" anyways. Their kids must feel smothered. It is ridiculous really.

Posted by BetZZZlovesHarry May 30th 2007

suck it laura mallory!

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

Lol, I dunno hpintwense, I kinda hope she keeps trying, i find it terribly entertaining.

Posted by ladyofemynarnen May 30th 2007

She really needs to find something better to do with her life and her time. What a waste.

Posted by AnyaMarcos May 30th 2007

Snicker...if you go to that website for her, and click on "Support", it says ".: 404 error - Page not found." Oh it's SO true.

Posted by lupin May 30th 2007

This woman is mental. Magic does not exist unfortunately, so even if kids were going around "doing magic" no harm would come from it. I rather have kids thinking magic is cool and waving around wands than have them playing violent video games and waving around guns instead.

Posted by phoenix_in_flight May 30th 2007

She will lose every time if she continues to protest the book without reading it....... and even if she did read them, there is nothing wrong with the books! I have been reading them since I was about 10, and I have not turned gothic, or started worshipping the devil, nor have I begun practicing witchcraft! She really needs to give up! lol

Posted by EloquentPhoenix May 30th 2007

There's only one thing to really say, isn't there? Lol!

Posted by Torbug16 May 30th 2007

There's a website? oooh I wanna see that! Lol. She is quite mental, and I mean seriously, if she doesn't want her kids to read them, fine, but why try to prevent other kids from reading them?
