Laura Mallory fails again
A judge in Gwinnett County, Georgia ruled on Tuesday that the Potter books can stay in school libraries (after local concerned parent Laura Mallory tried once again to have them banned from schools and libraries). After all of these attempts in court, Mallory has finally admitted she may "need a whole new case from the ground up."

Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Shmookness, you're overdoing it, you know.

Posted by Destiny123123 May 31st 2007

Obviously she needs another "Idiot of the Year" award. PLEASE Washington Post do us all this favor!!!

Posted by harrypotterwiz101 May 31st 2007

We really shouldn't pick on her too much...Yes, she is crazy because Harry Potter is the best kid in the literary world, but she's only trying to be a good mom. (If you haven't read the books, PLEASE don't complain about them!)

Posted by sirius8787 May 31st 2007

ughh that makes me so mad.. has she ever actually picked up a harry potter book and read it?

Posted by Shmookness May 31st 2007

Thank you so much AnyaMarcos for telling me I am overdoing it. Don't you think I know that? I am just tired of the same old thing everyday. The same old ignorance that flows out of people's mouths. If these are what REAL Harry Potter fans are then I don't want to be a Harry Potter fan and I don't wan to be a part of this website. I just want it to sink in and for people to know that what they are doing is wrong. I know I can get people to listen to me because I have done it before, and things like this need constant care because someone will always step out of line, but everyone is human and they will all make mistakes and they will hate each other and rip each other apart because of each one of our differences. But this is what I believe in and even though people are making me think twice in what I believe in I am going to stand my ground. The same thing happened with the Virginia Tech incident, but I still said what I believed and said what I thought was the right thing to do. I feel this is the right thing to do and I may not be able to do big things like politics now but I will try in the future, but maybe I can on this website.

ANYAMARCOS: Would you STOP bagging Christians for ONE second??!? People don't want to hear it! It just makes Christians like me upset and angry (I'm Catholic) and that's really not what this site if for! You cannot base the whole Christian race on a few bad Christians! When are you going to learn that we're not all idiots like Mallory?

Posted by lisa May 31st 2007

this lady needs to get a life or die, SERIOUSLY. she's pissing everyone off and NOBODY LIKES HER.... WOW she sucks.

Posted by kellbell May 31st 2007

When I first read this I thought it said "Laura Malfoy". Haha, that wouldn't be such a bad name fur her considering what shes doing is trying to get rid of Harry Potter.

Posted by mrsweasley5 May 31st 2007

As a parent, I can understand her desperation to protect her children from something she considers evil. I'm sure she knows there are children who go to the library and just read them there w/o checking them out. I just wish she'd see past her fear and give the books a try. Or maybe she should read some of the literature out there written by Christians who were against HP but read the books (thinking they were going to find proof they were satanic) and now defend them vehemently.

Posted by insomnia1505 Jun 1st 2007

Laura Mallory has no right to say that he books indoctrinate children in Wicca or witchcraft if she hasn't read the books. First of all: WITCHCRAFT IS NOT REAL. Second of all: SHE UNDERESTIMATES CHILDREN. No child is going to seriously go to the devil and get into witchcraft because a book told them to. Children are much more independent now, and anybody old enough to be interested in Harry Potter can decide for themselves whether they want to practice nonexistent witchcraft or not. Dude.... I'm a Catholic and she freaks me out. Can you say U-M-B-R-I-D-G-E? She reminds me more of umbridge than my science teacher ....And that's saying something! Harry Potter rules!

Posted by luna_phan Jun 1st 2007

i agree. you can't say something's bad unless you've tried it. i bet you $10000000 if she actually read them she'd find out they weren't that bad... no ok picture this, laura mallory gets addicted to them and sets up her own potter fan website. lmao. i mean come on.

Posted by Shmookness Jun 1st 2007

I told you already. There are people out there who WILL think it is real. As I said the same thing happened with The Matrix, I think. These people put on trench coats and started shooting up a place, but I will have to look into it. Like I said, I knew a person who really did think The Matrix was real. He didn't hurt anyone, but in his mind he thought he was in The Matrix world and he had to get therapy and go to a hospital. You can say these people are "crazy" but they aren't. They have mental illness issues that they need to work out. You people keep complaining about Mallory, okay? I understand you don't have the time to go through and read all these comments, but find it in your mind what the right thing to do is. Just because she judges your PRECIOUS Harry Potter books doesn't mean you should judge her. I do admit Harry is the thing that got me reading and it helped me out with my depression when I felt alone and I had no friends, I could just read the book and go into his world, but I am just trying to see Mallory's point of view and honestly most of you are being too closed minded to see her point of view. I see a few people here and there. But I don't go around hating people just because they are different than me. Please, people you are being just as bad as her when you bash her. I'm tired of preaching to all of you. I guess no matter what you people who have your sucky attitudes not that you are sucky people, and you will have your opinion. Good luck with all of you and by all means, keep bashing her and she what she does. I am turned off by all the fans on this website. Apparently no body on here REALLY READ THE BOOK. But maybe it is not just this website, it is the whole world..

She has no legitimate reason for getting rid of Harry Potter. Hehe.

Posted by freakishBBQ Jun 1st 2007

Banning Harry Potter is really stupid. Even if she did ban it, there are tons of fantasy books and movies out there about magic. And religon isn't even mentioned in it! GRRR!!! She is also generilizing all Christians. My aunt is a minister and she LOVES Harry Potter. I do feel kind of bad for Laura Mallory though, because soooo many people hate her and are saying mean things to her.

Posted by xxILoveFred_Geroge_Ron Jun 1st 2007

Shmookness, i'm not going to apologize for what I said. She's BANNING books she's NEVER even read! Just because she doesnt like it, doesn't mean other people doesn't. She has NO right whatsoever to ban the books she's never read. It'd be completely different if she did. But did she? no. So, I'm not going to apologize for what I said.

Posted by GrownUpChick Jun 1st 2007

I've only had time to read the first fifty comments and I can't believe what I'm seeing. Laura Mallory got dissed on the Faux News Channel? You must be joking! They love people like her on that channel! In fact, they are the only ones who will even give her any kind of real coverage. She is either barely mentioned or ignored entirely by all the REAL news channels. Well, anyway...I see that this latest failure is not going to deter this attention-seeking wench! By now, she's in "me against the world" mode and that's really hard to fight against. People like her believe that, in addition to being right, they also have God on their side. What was with that "We need God in our schools" comment? Doesn't she home-school her kids? People like her make me sick with their hypocrisy. She won't let her kids read HP but I'll bet they are little brats just the same. Alot of the born-again types have absolutely monstrous children!

Posted by potter4president Jun 1st 2007

Ha thats what she gets for being completely stupid.

Posted by Mnemone07 Jun 1st 2007

Honestly, people! One of the things I love most about the Harry Potter fandom is the fact that it is such a worldwide thing- people from all over the globe and from countless different cultures now share at least one thing in common. For this reason, I was always under the impression (rather naively, I might say in bitter hindsight) that we were a generally tolerant group. But the comments on this article make me realize that I need to revise my idea of the world. I am the kind of person who likes to be realistic, and recognize the problems the human race suffers and causes, but at the same time appreciate the beauty of the world we are blessed with. It is highly discouraging to read posts flippantly wishing the death of a fellow human being, as biased and ignorant as that human being may be, and others blatantly insulting other peoples' beliefs with no consideration whatsoever for their feelings. I try to be objective and not involve such tentative subjects in my posts, much less outright insult those who may feel strongly about them. Whether it is one's shipping preferences or religion, I do my best not to instigate a spat. I am most certainly not perfect- hardly. I have many moments of hypocrisy and stereotyping, don't get me wrong. But in situations where such people are present, or others who may take offense to it nonetheless- never! For shame! AnyaMarcos, you are undoubtedly aware of the many Christians who visit this website, read your comments, feel hurt, and are completely different from the stereotypes you carelessly throw around. And yet you continue! Please, let's try to have respect from one another here! Just because YOU believe a certain group of people are a certain way (entirely erroneously, might I add!) doesn't mean YOU have the right to be an....well, I think you should understand by now my thoughts on your behavior (collectively, not just you). I apologize for this, but please know that you are being as intolerant as you claim Christians to be!

Posted by Shmookness Jun 1st 2007

What you said, xxILoveFred_Geroge_Ron.. Made me very angry, but I realize there is not point in getting angry at you. You will continue to grow up and think people should just go kill themselves because they are just so worthless and that makes me extremely sad. It hurts my feelings when people say "That person should just go kill themselves." It really does hurt my feelings because I think about killing myself a lot and I try to be as happy as I can be.. But then people say ugly things like you just did and it makes me even more sad and angry to be living on this planet, so should I go kill myself? Should I? But what do you care if I go kill myself? I am no worry to you. I am just some person you know on the internet. But you know what? I would care if you died. I would stop you from killing yourself. I would not say such things. I was going to go off on you really bad but I calmed myself down and now I am being as nice as possible because my goal in life is to achieve kindess all over the world, if that is possible. Just remember xxILoveFred_Geroge_Ron that life is very precious and you don't get to decide who lives and dies and THANK WHATEVER GOD IS OUT THERE that you don't get to decide who lives and dies. It is fate. Please, next time read my comments and choose your words a bit more carefully would you? Also, please show some compassion, and understanding next time.

Mnemone07, I have no idea who you are but you are now my favorite person on this website for understanding and commprehending what I am saying. I thought I was going crazy for a moment.. I thought I was fighting and endless battle of something I want to believe in: Kindess. The world would be such a wonderful place if we were all kind to each other.. Just think of all the things we would/could do.. I got goose bumps just thinking about it.. I absolutely loved what you had to say. It was so well written.. I thought I was going to cry at the end.. I totally agree and feel the way you feel one hundred percent. There is so much beauty in the world and we have to open up our eyes and see it.. To me the most beautiful thing is love.. and we aren't showing any love.. we are showing hate.. no matter what this Mallory lady does I will love her as a human being as I love all living things and even non living things. Thank you soo much Mnemone07 you really made my day.

She is REALLY Starting to psst me off. Why doesnt she just tell her OWN children not to read the books? Im Really sorry for her kids.

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jun 2nd 2007

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jun 2nd 2007

Mnemone07, please show me the posts of mine that you are referring to.

Posted by xxILoveFred_Geroge_Ron Jun 2nd 2007

Shmookness, ok look, if you really want me to apologize for what I said because it pains you, then fine, I'm sorry, and you what? you're right, I don't ge to choose, but isn't it the same of what Laura is doing? She's taking the books off shelves AND there are MANY OTHER books that have magic in them too. Should she REALLY be doing that? She's just CHOOSING which books "look" dangerous. I still stand for what I said about her having no right whatsoever about banning Harry Potter. She should at LEAST try a few pages. It's not that hard.

Posted by GrownUpChick Jun 2nd 2007

Mnemone07: You said you like to be realistic and recognize the problems the world faces. Laura Mallory is an example of one of the world's biggest problems...narrow-minded ultra religious people. Unlke AnyaMarcos, I am not an atheist; however, I completely agree with one of their opinions. They say that religion has been responsible for more human suffering than any other idea in the history of the world. True. While Laura Mallory certainly isn't making anyone suffer(except maybe her own kids, to an extent) she is narrow-minded and intolerant of anyone else's beliefs or even of what other people enjoy, such as reading HP books. People like her want to take away other people's rights. She has NO RIGHT to tell her local school board that they can't offer HP books. While I agree that it is silly and childish for anyone to come on here and wish actual harm to this woman, I agree with everyone who has expressed their frustration and yes, anger with the ignorance of this woman. Before anyone can talk about banning anything they should be informed. Mallory has not read any of the HP books; therefore her opinion of them is irrelevant.

Posted by Shmookness Jun 2nd 2007

Aren't you being narrow-minded yourself when you aren't seeing her point of view and not opening up yourself to her and being kind? Even though xxILoveFred_Geroge_Ron has offended me and refuses to see my point of view, I see her point of view. She is frustrated by the fact that this woman has not read something she treasures so much and won't take the time of day to know anything about it. I know exactly how that feels. But can you see Mallory's point of view? Can you see my point of view? Frustration and anger will get the best of us, but as I demenstrated you CAN control yourself and you CAN be kind to others. I have no idea why she is doing these things, but I'm not going to judge her as she judges us and be mean to her as she is mean to us and maybe in return, we will get kindness, and if we don't at least we can say we tried and feel better about it in the end.

Posted by GrownUpChick Jun 2nd 2007

Laura Mallory is the one who is narrow-minded. I am a fairly open-minded person but I can't stand people like her because they want to dictate to others how they are supposed to live and what they are allowed to do. That makes me narrow-minded? I don't think so! Shmookness, I think you should tell it all to your psychiatrist. If you don't have one yet, please get one. You come on this site to make comments and start all this desparate talk about the world being so screwed up that you're not sure you want to stay in it. Get help. That is, unless you're really Laura Mallory in disguise and are just using the suicide talk to throw people off the scent. I truly believe that egomaniac would go onto a Harry Potter website just to see what others are saying about her. You asked, "Can you see her(Mallory's) point of view?" Yeah, I can see it quite clearly. It sucks.

Posted by ScienceNerd51 Jun 2nd 2007

A whole new case? PSH! What she needs is a new brain. Because the one she has is not working for her.

Posted by gymgrl Jun 2nd 2007

some people just never give up.....& if she does somehow end up winning her case i'll personally ship harry potter books over to the kids in the next county (i live in the county right next to it).......

Posted by Mnemone07 Jun 2nd 2007

AnyaMarcos: I have to apologize for singling you out and perhaps exaggerating your beliefs. I was a little edgy last night, and while there were no prolonged insults, you did make one offensive post. Here is the comment:" 'Aren't these comletely contradictory statements?' Travis, don't expect reason from her kind. Contradiction and hypocracy are the backbone of Conservative Christianity. Love your neighbor as long as he's Christian, Straight, White and Republican. Otherwise, hate him and spit on him. That's what I learned from Christians, and it is why I am not one any longer." I'm sorry for being so snappish, but I was in a rather bad mood- I am Christian, and yes, I may not [personally] approve of certain things, but I don't hate people who are the way they are, much less spit on them. If using the term very lightly, I can say "I hate Mallory", but I don't, I merely dislike her actions against our beloved books. Hatred is far deeper than that- hatred is the root of all evil, which is something Christians strive against (love really is the basis of Christianity). While terrorists claim to commit their atrocities in the name of whatever deity they worship, it is only hatred and evil, and if one believes so, the devil, that they serve. In any case, I'm ashamed to have taken my bad humour out on you. Do keep in mind, though, that as much as you have the right to say what you want, you can also prevent people from being hurt and/or offended without sacrificing your beliefs. In my mind, that is the right thing to do, but of course I am no better than the person next to me, so you don't have to listen to me- I would not blame you if you didn't. I only hope that you read this through, see where I am coming from, and possibly can forgive me for rashly dumping all of the blame on you. Hey, we both like Harry Potter, as I assume most people commenting here do, and seeing as we're on a HP website, that's what counts. Shmookness: Aw, thanks! That really made my day!

Posted by Shmookness Jun 2nd 2007

GrownUpChick, I am sorry I put you on the spot like that but I don't believe I was being rude to you at all. I was being nice to you and there was no need for what you said. By saying what you just said you are just proving my point at how closed minded you are about the whole situation AND including mentally ill people. You were very rude and I don't know why, but I deeply apologize if I have offended you in any way. I want you to realize that there are people out in the world who have mental illnesses and deal with depression everyday of their lives and I happen to be open about it. I have a physicatrist, therapist, and I take medicine, but still no matter what they do for you, they can't help you all that much. It's all up to you to be happy and I try to be as happy as I can but it's things what people say, like what you just said, that totally turns me off from the human race. It seems to me you have never met someone who is kind. I apologize again for offending you if I have and next time, please watch what you say. And Mnemone07 you write so beautifully and I congratulate you for it. It moves me and I'm so glad you agree with me. You made my day again. Thanks.

Posted by Radik8ter Jun 2nd 2007

I have been keeping up with the comments posted on here. I have noticed that Shmookness, you post these long drawn out explanations on how we should act and how everyone should sympathize with Mallory. I'm sorry, but anyone trying to get good books banned, they aren't on my favorite list of people. I read all the books and don't believe that they are corrupting our children or teenagers. So you think that you can come in here and put all of us down for speaking our minds, shame on you. They are just opinions and so what if they have something to do with someone who is trying to get the books taken off the shelves. Let people speak their mind...you seem to be quite good at that.

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jun 2nd 2007

Look, OK! This is getting pathetic. Anya, truce. I just like coming to this site and reading up on the Harry Potter news, talking to people about the topic etc. However, what I don't like is seeing my religion constantly put down by Christian-haters! Nobody does, it may not affect you, but it does affect us Christians. I know what you think of me, I don't blame you for hating me either. I have been a really rotten person towards you for the last couple of months, but you too have to admit that you haven't been exactly 'angel-material' either. I hate it when people bag Christianity, or when I get bagged by Christian haters for being Catholic. And especially here, is this the right place for put-downs? No, it isn't. Mnemone07 has got a very good point. You cannot base your anger on every single Christian, I totally agree with you in the field of Religion causing most of the past's suffering. As if it hasn't! But it’s changed, maybe it's not the most perfect change, but it has changed. There are some idiots out there (points frantically at Mallory) who do not respect other people's beliefs. I mean, as if Harry Potter is teaching kids to turn evil. That woman is arrow-minded, and it's actually becoming funny to see how she is not quitting. She's not going to win, anyway. But... there are people out there, Christians I mean, that aren't idiots. They help the world, they donate, they understand. They are like any other ordinary person. Now also, it's not Christian’s fault that they, or we are.... Christians. It's how we are brought up. Like it's not 2 Zebra's fault that the female gives birth to a baby Zebra. Imagine! 'I BLAME YOU FOR GIVING BIRTH TO A ZEBRA! WHY DIDN'T YOU GIVE BIRTH TO A LION INSTEAD? HUH?' It's how we are brought up. People, let's just... stop the fighting. No more bagging others fights etc, horrible comments about other people's beliefs. After all, is that what we're here for? No. I don't believe in Heaven or Hell. But I am a Catholic, and even though...

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jun 2nd 2007

I do not believe that Jesus Christ had powers, or healed people (which is what Catholics/most Christians are supposed to believe I must regret) I do believe however, that he was a real man. And he had great influence on people. And even though he lived thousands of years ago, he still has great influence on people. I go to a Catholic school, I enjoy it, I have really nice friends, I learn stuff. It’s not this: ‘You must hate ALL people who do not believe in our Religion!’ It may have used be that way, but it most certainly isn’t now. It’s just a normal and ordinary (posh **cough**) school. Any other Catholic HP fan on this sirt who attends a Catholic school would agree with me. And even in Mass I pay attention. I don’t bag people about their Religions. It’s an awful thing to do. I won’t be an annoying freak anymore Anya… just please. Can we stop World War III?

Posted by Shmookness Jun 3rd 2007

I'm sorry but I don't think saying someone should go die and saying how horrible someone is speaking your mind. I think it is rude and disrespectful. I DO NOT like this Laura Malloru lady in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. But as MUCH AS I DISLIKE HER I will not bash her or be as closed minded as her. I do not SYMAPATHIZE with her, I am trying to see her point of view and why she is trying to do this. Yes, they are good books and they have nothing to do with corrupting children, but just because she is doing this I am not going to look down on her and bash her like this. I don't know why but I do weird things like this. I am getting sick of saying the same thing over and over again and none of it sinking in. I am sick of the world.. But whatever. You people go ahead and say whatever trash you want to say about her. In my mind you are acting as just as bad as her, prejudging, crisizing, and closed mindedness. Don't you see you are doing the exact same things as her? No matter how much someone annoys me and and no matter how much I dislike them I still try to love them and see their point of view and be open.. But you can't do that all the time.. I understand all of your frustration.. I understand.. But these books are never going to get banned, let's just face it, get over the fact that she's doing it. Get over it.. realisticly she is going to go no where with her case and EVERYONE has read Harry Potter and knows what it is really about, and these books aren't going to get banned.. So just get over it and leave her alone so she can die with what is left with her.

Posted by evil_1 Jun 3rd 2007

ahahahahaha i love it wen *uses disrespectful language* people get thwarted. Rock on slytherin.

Posted by GoodShipper Jun 3rd 2007

Plain and simple, she's looney. Maybe if she actually read the books, she'd know what she was talking about and stop this little crusade she has going. It's ridiculas.

Posted by hobbitsrule1 Jun 3rd 2007

i'm on her side. somebody should have made a case against harry potter ages ago. If you read The Lord of the Rings then you will realise how much j.k. rowling has copied from it. I can't believe nobody's done something about that.

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jun 3rd 2007

haha silly, silly woman :D

Posted by ospreypatronus Jun 3rd 2007

Do you suppose her next hobby will be repeatedly banging her head against the wall while tearing up $1000 bills? Seriously, woman, give it up!

Posted by Dobby4ever Jun 3rd 2007

HAHA, LAURA! She will NEVER get them banned from the school libraries! I mena, why should they be?

Posted by GrownUpChick Jun 3rd 2007

Oh, yay! Timothy is here. It was only a matter of time. Where Anya goes, Timothy goes. This argument is getting old. For Tim and all you other Christians reading these comments...why are you letting an atheist, that you've never met whom you know only by the comments she makes on this site, bother you so much? People with truly strong faith don't let anyone get to them. Oh, and Shmookness...perhaps the comment board on a website is not where you shoud be at this point in your life. To both of you: you're not going to change the minds of any people commenting here so don't waste your time trying.

Posted by Shmookness Jun 3rd 2007

You are right, I can't change people's minds, but I made a few people see.. and that's what matters.. Your whole paragraph is a set of contridictions, you know. You are still judging me and you say Timothy judges AnyaMarcos, but anyway.. If MuggleNet has a problem with me commenting, I will glady stop commenting and just come here for the news because that is what I used to do. I have no problem with it, but they should do it nicely. Anyway.. You are right.. There will be people who just don't listen and don't want to listen.. I have said it over and over again.. I feel like I shouldn't give up.. I don't like giving up on things.. But at least I tried.. you know.. and I got a few people to listen.. Thanks to the people who listend.. It meant a lot to me..

Posted by chillcat Jun 3rd 2007

*looks around nervously at the Potter World War I going on between Shmookiness and some other person and dives out of the way* Seriously guys, this is getting old. Boohoos. Mallory lost. she's going to try again anyway. potterfans in georgia will beat her. she's going to try again. they beat her even more. she tries again. the end. for now.

Posted by xxILoveFred_Geroge_Ron Jun 3rd 2007

I don't have time for this, Shmookness. You're hopeless. You can think what you want, but I still stand for what I said, and nothings going to change the way I see things. What more do you want from me? You wanted me to apologize, so I did, now you're talking point of views. I don't have time for you're "feelings" ok? If I die? Why would you even care? You don't know me. What are you going to do? Say, "aww...that's soo sad, she died..." and next thing you know, you're back to your daily life. What kind of pathetic person would even talk about stuff like this. If a person did something you REALLY didn't want, you'd be mad too. So you know what? Think what you want. I don't care about your mumbo jumbo crap.

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jun 3rd 2007

Timothy, I stopped a long time ago. You're the one who always attacks me, now. And I will never, ever forget or forgive you for that remark saying that you hoped I ended up like Hitler. That was a disgusting thing to say, and it's not the kind of thing I can just forget. And Mnenem, whatever your name was, I am entitled to my opinion. My comments are based on the Christians I PERSONALLY have encountered. Maybe there are lots of Christians that are good people, but I haven't met any yet.

HP 2, Laura Mallory zip. Once again harry potter wins by a landslide!
