JKR's open book tour of the US
JKR's open book tour of the US JK Rowling announced plans today to embark on an "Open Book Tour" of the United States. From her news section:

"In October I will be touring the USA for the first time since 2000. The Tour will include four events, three to be held for schoolchildren in Los Angeles, New Orleans and New York City and one event in New York City for any U.S. Harry Potter fan who wins a ticket through a sweepstakes to be held by Scholastic, my US publishers. At each event, I will read from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series, answer questions about the entire series, and sign copies of the latest book."

Visit Scholastic's Potter section beginning July 30th for information on how to enter this sweepstakes and complete rules.

OMG AWESOME!! I love Jo! Hey maybe I'll actually be able to go to a harry potter event for once! I think NYC is like 2 hrs from here. ^_^

Posted by hermioneg288 Jun 14th 2007

hey that's great she's coming NY!! I go to school there! But what sucks is you have to win a contest to get in..which means that limits my chances..grrr. not cool. don't you think the contest would be open to all US citizens and they would include traveling in the prize..thats what I would think. I really hope I can win tickets to go because that would be amazing! I missed out last time she came to NYC. but school children...so I dont get it only school children are going to get to go those events in other cities..i dont think thats fair...adult fans are waay more obsessive usually..or teen fans whatever than little kids and we would appreciate it so much more. whatever, I'm glad she's coming NYC and I hope I win tickets! she should do a tour of the UK really because thats where it all started..and she should go to other countries too for all the non american fans

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE Jun 14th 2007

thats awesome. we all love her and we all know it. woot!!!

Posted by Holly09 Jun 14th 2007

I don't understand why they are having this for "schoolchildren in Los Angeles, New Orleans and New York City." What about the rest of us? And how about the people who don't live in these places? The rest of us will have to just hope we will one of the tickets to NYC? I went to see her last summer in New York (and I live in Indiana, not close) and it was awesome. Why don't they do it like that, instead of a contest. This will be just luck. Please, open it up to everyone, not just the lucky or the school-aged!

Posted by hprebel311 Jun 14th 2007

Well great. I'll be a senior, so I guess that might still count as a school child, but I live in the Panhandle of Texas, so there is no way I could get to any of those. And I'm sure the NY one will only have like 5 winners. Why can't she just come to every state and just let people fight to book tickets first like a concert.

Posted by MuggleMage Jun 14th 2007

hmm...those places are really inconvenient for those in the Midwest, like me. I wish she could have come to Chicago. Ah well. I guess I'll just have to enter that contest and find all my lucky charms (not the cereal) =)

Posted by elphieweasley1 Jun 14th 2007

EXCITEMENT! I'm definetley entering!

Posted by OMGWTFBBQ Jun 14th 2007

New Orleans is only an hour away from me!! I hope I can go....Does it say how old you have to be anywhere?

Posted by grangergirl32 Jun 14th 2007

Why don't celebrities ever do things in Chicago? It's a big city, plus it's right in the middle of the country, so it's not as far for a lot of fans to go. It's easier for a kid in like Missouri to get to Chicago than to LA.

Posted by OMGWTFBBQ Jun 14th 2007

A thousand readers will be chosen for the sweepstakes? Thats pretty cool. I would still rather go to the one thats only an hour's drive away from me though....boo

Posted by hpgirl_91 Jun 14th 2007

Is the 'schoolaged' thing for a specific school in LA? i live in San Diego and am in high school... hmmm.... maybe i will pretend that my little sister goes to the school and we will sneak in! *plots*

Posted by mischiefmanaged12 Jun 14th 2007

I wanna ENTER!!!!SWEET!

Posted by maxevans19 Jun 14th 2007

I don't get all the people who are 'planning' their trips to one of these cities. You have to WIN tickets to enter ANY of the events. Three are for schoolchildren and one is for the 'public', but you still have to WIN the sweepstakes. You cannot just buy a plane ticket and go see her... While I feel discontent over the fact that she is not coming to the SouthEast, is it really surprising? Can you imagine the HOARDS of people that would flock to see her if everyone were allowed? So, I suppose I understand the need for certain restrictions so that she is not completely overwhelmed. All we can do (for us older fans at least) is enter the 'public' competition and hope for the best...

Posted by funkypotter Jun 14th 2007

yay! jk is coming!

Posted by Glubad Jun 14th 2007

cool! Happy summer break to all the montgomery county people! Woot!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Jun 14th 2007

well this sucks. I'm not a school child anymore, and I don't live in any of those cities, not even near any of them. And chances of me winning a ticket to see her in New York City are slim to none, I've never won anything. OH wait, I did win a basketball in a JumpRope For Heart door prize in like, 3rd grade... ha, 3rd grade was when I first started reading Harry Potter. funny, but off topic... well not really. ha. (I'll end there... my rant is making me a bit angry.... cuz I'll never get to see Jo!)

Posted by Alina Jun 14th 2007

YES! This is soooo cool! I love the fact that I live in New York City! Everything exciting happens here! I wish I could meet J.K Rowling! That would make me soooo happy!

Posted by Czechmetz Jun 14th 2007

Holy CRAP, this is the best news ever! The chance to see Jo Rowling?! omg!

Posted by HarryandtheDA Jun 14th 2007

This is great!! Question, though, for Ciaran, or anyone else, but is JK coming after DH comes out or before, because the date says July 30, which would be AFTER DH comes out??!! I don't know, just wondering!!

Posted by Alina Jun 14th 2007

No, LOL, Rowling is coming to tour in October, which would be after Deathly Hallows comes out. The sweepstakes begins July 30! Good Luck everyone!!!

Posted by HarryandtheDA Jun 14th 2007

WHOOPS!!! My bad!! it says she's coming in the fall in october. Sorry guys, I'm really not awake this morning!! ;P

Posted by browneyed_mudblood Jun 14th 2007

YES YES YES YES YES! i am so excited! finally!

Posted by merry_muggle Jun 14th 2007

I can't wait. I love the fact I don't live -that- far from the city...

Posted by anvilsized Jun 14th 2007

OOOOOMMMMMMGGGG!!! SHE'S COMING TO NEW ORLEANS!!! THIS IS THE COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD!!!!!

Posted by bwof Jun 14th 2007

Wow, that´s very cool- fun, wish I could be there. Very weird, just 36 days left...I´m still wondering what I should eat, how fast I should read it ie how much to restrain myself from reading it at once...

Posted by mugglecast_fan Jun 14th 2007

HOLY SNAPE!!!

Posted by FilmMagic Jun 14th 2007

This contest better not be for people under 21 again. >:|

Posted by redrider Jun 14th 2007

With so many loyal fans there is NO way JKR can greet/meet all of us. I am excited especially for the children who will get to meet her. I just want to read her answers to the ?s.

Posted by Susan_Bones Jun 14th 2007

*groans* I don't live near any of those cities!! Well I guess I can't control this kind of stuff, so whatever.

Posted by dobby_rocks Jun 14th 2007

Jo defiantly doesn’t have a preference for USA fans, last Summer 2006 was the first time she’d been over here since 2000. Though it would be nice if she could do a world tour but she has a teenage daughter, 2 young children and husband who is a doctor so its is understandable.

Posted by ennaxor Jun 14th 2007

Man, it figures. Rowling finally returns to the US, and I'll be in England for the year.

Posted by amy4dan1327 Jun 14th 2007

it's not fair she always goes to New York, why not Chicago???? oh well, it's great that she's coming to the US anyways!!!! :)

Posted by riddleisourking Jun 14th 2007

Everyone who is complaining, it's not like a lot of US is going to get to be involved with this. From the description is sounds like 3 of the 4 appearances are not going to be where just anyone can show up. It sounds like some sorta thing for certain kids or if you win, or something. I'm not sure the description is weird. But New York and New Orleans? Okay, well US is pretty big so most of us still don't get to involved, so all those in other countries, don't get too jealous.

c'mon Jo while your over on this continent come to CANADA !!!

Posted by Rictusempra115 Jun 14th 2007

That's awesome that she's coming to the US but I wish she could come by where I live. Don't think my parents would take me out to California or any of the other places for that matter. Have fun all of you who do get to go!!!!

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jun 14th 2007

OMG I MUST GO!!!!! I ALWAYS WANTED TO MEET JO SHE IS GOD!!! But, off-topic: This July is going to be the greatest month of my life. Ever. OH GOD I WANT TO MAKE OUT WITH DAN RIGHT NOW!!!!! Anyway, wouldn't it be hilarious if during Dan and that da*n lucky bi*** Katie's makeout scene, the song "What Is Love?" by Haddaway was playing? OMG THAT WOULD BE Freaking hilarious!!!

Posted by aries_fellintona Jun 14th 2007

just for schoolchildren? but but but..i live in new orleans..or did til hurricane came though.. i am 20, but i still wanna meet her...i wonderful if i can get my godkids that time and have kids, hopefully i can win tickets for them..er erm, me!..hmmm i wonder

Posted by Bubbagus194 Jun 14th 2007

Well that's all good and dandy but what if you're not a "schoolchild" in those areas... what 'bout southwest Arkansas!?! And I'm not ever lucky in sweepstakes so... I wish she'd do a tour of like the capitals of certain states (I'm not far from Little Rock, JK!!) open to anybody... I'd buy a ticket if I had to...

Posted by riddleisourking Jun 14th 2007

like i said, school children, don't get took flabbergasted over the USA's "luck"

Posted by cedarbluff Jun 14th 2007

why don't alabama have stuff like that? we may not be as big as new york, but that dose not mean a thing!! do the people that make up these things think that harry potter fans just live in big places? its not right!! if it was not 4 us small states harry potter would not have made the money that they did!! it p's me off!! i am glad that i am not the only 1 filling pain!!

Posted by FLHPFan Jun 14th 2007

That is so cool! I know that some people think that she should do this in other countries as well, which I agree. However, you also have to look at the fact that she hasn't done a tour like this since 2000. So it really isn't unfair if you look at it that way. I think seven years is long enough without a Jo tour, don't you? lol. I just think it is so cool that she is stopping by the U.S. in October!

Posted by gemini88 Jun 15th 2007

I think its great that shes coming to New Orleans of all places..im still shocked..its usually only places like New York and LA and other random cities up north that get anything cool.. When it comes to concerts and other stuff, we usually get skipped. I just wish it wasn't for "schoolchildren" only? I wonder what she technically means by that.. I hope being a college student counts..I'm also a child at heart!

Posted by Dobby4ever Jun 15th 2007

Well, good for you guys in the US. But we in Denmark are still waiting for an announcement, which says that she'll come to Denmark.

Posted by BellatrixAclyon Jun 15th 2007

Its about time the bloody Americans have a shot at the good stuff ... Wo0t!

Posted by hobbitsrule1 Jun 15th 2007

*SARCASTIC SOB* oooh noo she's in america!! she doesnt come to jamaica!!! LIKE I CARE ABOUT THAT FILTHY RIP OFF!! I KNOW THAT ALL YOU FANS WOULD POLISH ALL HER FILTHY $10 000 000 SHOES BY LICKING THEM IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE!!! I DONT CARE IF SHE TRAVELS FIRST CLASS TO THE MOON I'LL STILL HATE HER!!! IF J.R.R.TOLKIEN WERE ALIVE THEN I COULD SEE WHAT HE'D DO ABOUT HER COPYING- OH AND DID YOU SAY SHE WAS JUST 'INFLUENCED' BY IT??? WELL ITS MORE THAN JUST INFLUENCIAL PSYCHOLOGY HERE!!!SHE HAS SOME NERVE, COPYING FROM J.R.R.TOLKIEN'S BOOKS BECAUSE HE'S DEAD

Posted by voldy1788 Jun 15th 2007

Hmm... I live in the US, but I'm too far away from those places... and it'll be the school year, so my parents won't let me go that far. :( Why can't she include Chicago in the tour?

Posted by fell4snape Jun 15th 2007

AWESOME. I live 30 minutes from New York City!!

Posted by demonchild13 Jun 15th 2007

Zomygosh, if I can I'm so going to go! My parents have to let me, LA isn't that far away and they know how HP obsessed I am so it would be torture to have Jo in the same state and not letting me go! I'm so excited * begins countdown to greatest day of my life*

Posted by magickgirl Jun 15th 2007

Why doesn't anything happen in Utah????? I think "school aged children" Means she is going to some of the schools there. I think that is totally unfair.
