Interview with As I Lay Dobby:

1. Why do you play wizard rock?

Matt: Huge fan of Harry Potter, and I enjoy meeting people who like Harry Potter as well.
Steve: I'm a huge fan of meeting the people that talk to Matt; people love him.

2. What do you personally get out of being in a wizard rock band?

Matt: Good times, and some friends.
Steve: I get to talk to random people I never met to tell them about a Hardcore Harry Potter band, awesome.

3. What influences your music/your style?

Matt: Heavy Music and Harry Potter
Steve: Linkin Park (who by the way has a new album out, Minutes to Midnight). Catch their new hit single "Bleed It Out" on the radio!
Trunks: The emotion that flows out of the mind of J.K. Rowling. Gotta love it.

4. How long have you been playing?

Matt: Guitar 6 years.
Steve: What, wizardcore? A month. Bass 6 years.
Trunks: 8 years. Not counting when I went back in time.

5. Do you plan to continue having shows and writing songs even though
the Harry Potter series has been completed, and why?

Matt: Yes.
Steve: Yeah, why not? We still have movies and what not to look forward to; the way I see it we still have 2 more solid years before we need to worry. So in 2 years ask me again.

6. What is your favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

Matt: Meeting EVERYONE!
Steve: Ditto, and the ladies love us :)

7. What is your least favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

Matt: none.
Steve: No such thing.
Trunks: Takes times away from hunting the androids.

8. What advice do you have for potential future wizard rockers?

Matt: Never give up your will to fight!
Steve: Don't stop the rock.

9. How do you explain wizard rock to people who are new to the genre or to people who (heaven forbid) have never read Harry Potter?

Matt: I tell them to read it and experience the magic of Harry Potter.
Steve: Um, it’s easy for us because Matt came up with the best band name ever so people usually go with that. For the most part everyone knows Harry Potter; if they didn't read the book they saw the movie.

10. Is your band completely DIY, and do you think that being completely DIY is an integral part of being a wizard rock band?

Matt: YES. Being DIY is essential to not selling out.
Steve: We have to DIY so no choice - if we didn't do it, it wouldn't do itself.

11. Have you ever been approached by a corporate record-label asking to sponsor your band? If so, what was your reaction and if not, what would your reaction be in such a situation?

Matt: No, but I would totally do it.
Steve: No, but I would hop on that band wagon so fast that a jack rabbit on a cooled summers eve couldn't even cool it down.
Trunks: Yes, Funimation for my likeness to be represented in the hit anime series DRAGONBALL Z!!

12. Has your band ever had any copyright-infringement issues, and if so how have you dealt with them?

Matt: No, I have no idea.
Steve: No, we probably will if we get bigger.

13. Is there any specific message you would like to share with your fans?

Matt: Live for the music, DIE for the music!
Steve: Scream our songs in your car, seriously and be proud.
Trunks: Live free, Die hard.
