MuggleNet | Mistakes in the Books


Before submitting mistakes, please read ALL of the following.



  • Check the dictionary before sending in mistakes involving word usage or spelling. Chances are it's simply a British or seldom used word.

  • Read all the mistakes currently on the site. It may seem tedious, but it removes potential for repeated mistakes.

  • If the mistake you've spotted is not on this site, please consult J.K. Rowling's Official Site and make certain it isn't answered there.

  • It is advisable that you check interviews, but this is not required.

  • Please be aware of jokes. Not every inconsistency is a mistake if the source or context is considered. For example, Slughorn calling Ron "Rupert" is only there to highlight the fact that he can not remember Ron's name. Remember that he also calls Ron "Ralph" earlier in the book.

  • If you submit a mistake and it is not posted, please don't continue to incessently submit the same mistake. If it isn't posted, it probably isn't a mistake.

    SUBMISSION OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MISTAKES IS PUNISHABLE BY A LIFE-LONG SENTENCE IN AZKABAN:

    - Ron/Rupert mistakes. See above for explanation.

    - Any mistake concerning the thestrals in any way. The explanation is already posted.

    - Mistakes concerning who was Head boy or prefect.

    - Typos/misspellings. No one is perfect; that includes editors.

    - Any mistakes already answered, posted, submitted incorrectly, or mistakes that we've asked not be submitted will be ignored.

    Once you've spotted new mistakes, be sure to include:

  • The Edition
  • The Page Number
  • The Excerpt with the Mistake
  • The Name you want it credited to
