Sunday Mirror Article Excerpt:
Jamie Waylett
From Sunday Mirror September 16, 2001. Transcript courtesy of the Harry Potter Galleries (unfortunately, no longer active).
Jamie, born 1989, was spotted when talent scouts for the film Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone, which has its premiere in London on November 4, unexpectedly turned up at his West London school.
He didn't hear anything for months. Then, out of the blue, he received a call to go for an audition. He said: "When I came home and said I was going to be in a film everyone just laughed and said it wasn't going to happen. Then I got a little bit more excited as I kept getting one step nearer actually being in the film."
"I only really knew for sure I was going to do it when they were measuring me for my costume and I thought: 'Why are they measuring me if I'm not in it'?" Jamie, who says he is glad to have got the part because, "everybody loves a villain" will begin work on the second Harry Potter movie in October 2001. He said: "All of us in the cast are really good friends and the filming was a real laugh."
