Rhys Ifans talks about Deathly Hallows and Evanna Lynch

In a recent interview, Rhys Ifans – the actor who will portray Xenophilius Lovegood – commented on how thrilled he was to be cast in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. His reaction? “I got it man!” He also spoke highly of Evanna Lynch: “She's amazing,” he said. “If there's a question on set — and they have a plethora of researchers and people who've read the books — but if anyone needs to know ANY miniscule detail about anything that has happened in any Harry Potter novel from start to finish, they ask her. She knows it all. So it was quite intimidating. I was working with this expert in Harry Potter. But she was a joy to work with. All of them, all of the kids or whatever you call them, it was just a great couple of weeks.” To read the full interview with Mr. Ifans, click here! Read More »

Rhys Ifans says opportunity to work on Deathly Hallows was “like getting knighted”

MTV has a new interview online with actor Rhys Ifans, who plays Xenophilius Lovegood, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He talks about getting the part, what it was like on set and working with the cast. “When you're an English actor and you get the 'Harry Potter' call– it's like Batman, you know? You have a phone, you have a normal phone, and then you have one that is made out of wood. That's the 'Potter' people. They call you up [and] you get your wand out, you put your cloak on and off you go. It's a real honor. It's like getting knighted or something.” “You just sit with all these actors you've starved with in the theater… sitting there dressed as wizards [and] having wand-offs. So it's very pleasantly surreal.” Thanks to Tom for the tip! Read More »

Ciarán Hinds, Rhys Ifans talk to ComingSoon.net about entering the Potter franchise this late in its life

The stream of new Deathly Hallows-related comments from actors promoting other films continue to flow. Tonight, ComingSoon.net has released bits of recent interviews with Ciarán Hinds (Aberforth Dumbledore) and Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius Lovegood). They both discuss entering the franchise at this late stage in the franchise's life: Ciaran: 'I had the joy of sharing the scene with three… well, they're not kids anymore… Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. They were very charming, very gracious, made you feel very welcome and you're aware. Here I am at a certain age with all my experience and these kids really know what they're doing, they know their characters and here I am saying, 'Who the hell am I… apart from Michael Gambon's brother?' Rhys: 'You get on set and you see all these actors who you've either admired from afar or more often than not, actors you've worked with before, all sitting there, dressed up as wizards, having wand-offs, and then bitching about other actors who didn't get the call-up. It's just such a surreal situation to be in. I was really genuinely proud to have been invited to be part of that whole machine.' Thanks to Tommie for the tip! Read More »

Rhys Ifans interviewed about role in Deathly Hallows

Readers may remember that in late-March, Rhys Ifans confirmed he had a role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. His role was later revealed to be Xenophilius Lovegood, and we now have a new interview with Rhys where he talks briefly about this opportunity. In one part of the interview, he discusses Leavesden Studios (where all the Potter films have been primarily shot): It's an enormous place, so you walk about and see things like a zoo full of owls, so if you need an owl for a scene, you pick up the phone and someone comes across with an owl. It's a like a machine. I've never been – in America – with an employer of so many people. I'm not a big fan of Harry Potter but it feels like a privilege to get called up with people like Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon so it's an honour that they thought of me to play a cross-eyed wizard. He’s a good wizard – a really great guy.” And Jason Isaacs, the actor who plays Lucius Malfoy in the Potter films, recently did a short interview at the 2009 Empire Awards, saying he is “heartbroken” that everything will soon be coming to an end.
