Pastiche du Potter:
Part II: The Beginning of the End

I have been asked what I think about the beginnings of Book Seven. Something major will almost surely be revealed on Privet Drive, through Petunia. It will involve Dumbledore's early letters to Petunia, and, perhaps, the means for Harry to get to Godric's Hollow (see SE #16). It seems that it would be too early for it to concern the burning question of why Dumbledore trusted Snape, but perhaps not. It may be that something is revealed here that Harry doesn't grasp or make proper use of until much later in the book. Was Snape the "awful boy" that Petunia overheard, and if so, is that conversation connected to Dumbledore's iron clad trust of Snape?

I wonder whether we might possibly learn of other letters that Petunia may have saved. I got an image of a box full of letters from Lily to Petunia, from her years at Hogwarts. I suspect that beneath Petunia's brittle, jealous and bitter exterior, there is some trace of Lily. I hope that part of her was sentimental enough to save her sister's letters, and will be kind enough to pass them to her nephew. Perhaps Harry will learn a great deal about Lily's eyes, as he reads her own words and learns more about how she saw the world.

How Bill and Fleur's wedding will figure in, I am not certain. Will it be the set up for some major, unexpected and violent confrontation? I sincerely hope not, as the Weasleys deserve a joyous and love-filled day. It may be the last one for quite a while. I think the wedding may be the setting for another conversation between Ginny and Harry, and may set up Ginny's role in Book Seven. Ah, the Potter men and their redheads. Ginny seems an awful lot like Lily, not only in looks, but also in chutzpah. I don't think she would openly defy Harry's wishes to keep her safe, nor is she of age to defy her parents in the matter. However, she will be useful - very useful. She is already a powerful witch. She has her own score to settle with Tom Riddle. She wants Harry safely home, she is resourceful (definitely Fred and George's sister), a great flyer, a deft hex master, and very Gryffindor-ishly brave. She also is compared with a cat several times over the course of the series, and as far as we know, none of Harry's contemporaries has even attempted the art of the Animagus transformation yet. Might Ginny find a way to participate unseen in Harry's adventure, perhaps with Crookshanks at her side? If a new ginger cat suddenly appears to be following Harry's adventures, we'll know why. And watch for Ginny's OWL results, if, indeed, her class has been able to take OWLs yet. (Remember, all exams were postponed at the end of HBP.) If the youngest Weasley happens to receive an "O" in Transfiguration, keep a lookout for a new animal companion.

What will Harry find at Godric's Hollow? I have absolutely nothing to venture on this one yet, sorry. I must continue to mull. However, I do have a scenario to posit regarding RAB and the Locket.
