Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an upcoming film trilogy based on the supplementary book of the same name. The movies will follow Newt Scamander, author of aforementioned book, and will take place in New York during the 1920s. The first movie is being released on November 18, 2016, while the second and third movies are being released November 16, 2018, and November 20, 2020, respectively. At least the first movie will be directed by David Yates, the director of the final four Harry Potter films. The first screenplay, which has been completed, was written by J.K. Rowling herself. The producers will be David Heyman, the producer of all eight Harry Potter films; Steve Kloves, the screenplay writer of seven of the eight Harry Potter films; Lionel Wigram, the executive producer of the last four Harry Potter films; and of course, J.K. Rowling. Stuart Craig, the production designer of the Harry Potter films, will return as production designer for Fantastic Beasts. It has been confirmed that Eddie Redmayne will play the main role of Newt Scamander.
