Alfred “Alfie” Lewis Enoch was born on December 2, 1988, in Westminster, England, to English actor William Russell (you might know him as Ian Chesterton in Doctor Who, companion to the First Doctor!) and Brazilian physician Balbina Gutierrez. Enoch, who is just over 6′ tall, enjoys a good game of basketball. He graduated from Oxford University in 2012 with a Bachelors degree in Modern Languages and is fluent in Portuguese.
He got inspired to go into acting as a young child while watching his father perform in the opening season at the Globe theatre in London. Enoch says of the experience, “To call it a formative experience is a bit much, but it’s something I remember so clearly and it was just so exciting.”

Enoch plays Harry Potter’s Gryffindor classmate and friend, Dean Thomas, in the Harry Potter series.
Enoch learned that Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was being made into a film while on tour with the National Young Theatre. Being a fan of the books, Enoch knew exactly what they were all about – and why it would be amazing to be cast in the films. However, the first time casting agents came to his school, he decided not to audition, thinking “Nahhh, why would they pick me?” Lucky for him, and for us, the casting agents came by a second time and Enoch decided to audition. After all, it’s not often that you get a second chance at an opportunity like this.
He did 60 days of filming on the first film – a lot considering he only had one line!
Enoch has said that he has always had a “soft spot” for Dean but didn’t really think about him until Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix when he argued with Dolores Umbridge by defending Remus Lupin and “that immediately shot him up to ‘characters I love’ status.” He also comments that “[Dean's] friendship with Seamus, both in the books and in the movies, is one of my favorites and I was really pleased that he played a bigger role in Deathly Hallows (the exchange between Seamus and Dean when Dean comes back to Hogwarts is one of my favorites in the entire series).”
Oh, and his OTP? “Not ashamed to say that Deathly Hallows made me ship Luna/Dean (the part where they’re emptying the Room of Requirement and Dean waits for her and takes her hand is just so sweet). I’ve also always shipped him with Lavender.”
