Leslie Phillips

Leslie Phillips was born on April 20, 1924 in Tottenham, London, England. An aspiring actor from a young age, Phillips received elocution lessons to lose his natural cockney accent. At the time, a strong accent was considered an impediment for an actor. It was his mother that encouraged him to take these lessons. Phillips lived through World War II, serving with the Durham Light Infantry (1942-45) until he left due to shellshock. After this, he returned to acting. He specializes in playing quintessentially English stereotypes, but has performed a variety of roles. Phillips has acted in everything from film and television to theatre and radio, as well as appearing in television commercials and voicing audiobooks.

He has four children with his first wife, actress Penelope Bartleby; their names are Caroline, Claudia, Andrew, and Roger. His second wife, Angela Scoular, was a former Bond girl. Phillips married his third wife, Zara Carr, on December 20, 2013 at age 89.
