Bathrooms

The only bathroom that gets a specific mention of its own is the Prefects’ Bathroom on the fifth floor (fourth door along from the statue of Boris the Bewildered). This is, presumably, one of a number of bathrooms set aside for the Prefects and is extremely sumptuous: the fittings are all made of white marble, the room is lit by an extravagant candle-filled chandelier, and the bath itself is almost the size of a swimming pool, complete with a diving board. A hundred golden taps line the sides of the pool, each delivering a different sort of bubble-bath mixed with piping hot water, and a pile of fluffy towels is also provided.

They obviously treat their Prefects pretty well at Hogwarts. What bathing facilities are set aside for the rest of the students is never made clear, but whatever it is, it’s certainly not going to be as nice as what the Prefects get. If nothing else, Harry notes that he’s much less likely to get disturbed in the Prefects’ Bathroom, which means that the ones the ordinary students have to use must be a bit of a free-for-all.

If you’re ever in the vicinity and you want to check it out, the password is “Pine Fresh”, or at least it was in 1995.

NB: This article refers to rooms with baths in only. For information about toilet bocks (in particular Moaning Myrtle) see Toilets.
