Teachers at Hogwarts


A brief guide to teachers at Hogwarts past and present.

Prof. Albus Dumbledore

Position: Headmaster

Details: Long, silver hair, wears half-moon glasses and has a long crooked nose. Fond of Muggles, lemon drops, and warm, fuzzy socks. Former Transfiguration teacher.


Prof. Minerva McGonagall

Position: Transfiguration/Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts/Head of Gryffindor

Details: Very strict, stern and has little patience with rule breakers. Always wears her hair in a tight bun. An Animagus who turns into a tabby cat.


Prof. Severus Snape

Position: Potions/Head of Slytherin

Details: Tall man with greasy hair, a crooked nose, and shoulder-length hair. Bitter and twisted, and hated by most of the students. Shamelessly favours Slytherin and dislikes everyone else.


Prof. Flitwick

Position: Charms/Head of Ravenclaw

Details: Very short, white hair, squeaky voice. Has to stand on a pile of books to see over his desk. Seems to be somewhat emotional.


Prof. Sprout

Position: Herbology/ Head of Hufflepuff

Details: Has gray hair, dirty nails, and usually wears a patched hat. Teaches classes in the greenhouses.


Prof. Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank

Position: Temporary Care of Magical Creatures Teacher

Details: Brisk, elderly, grey-haired witch who took over teaching Care of Magical Creatures when Hagrid was incapacitated. She was much better at it than he was.


Prof. Sybil Trelawney

Position: Divination

Details: Wears huge glasses that makes her eyes look like an insect, has a misty voice, and wears many bangles, rings, chains, etc. Very fond of cooking sherry.


Prof. Rubeus Hagrid (commonly referred to just as Hagrid)

Position: Care of Magical Creatures/Gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys at Hogwarts

Details: Half giant, twice the size of a normal man, with tangled black hair. Although he has a large size, he is very kind if somewhat incompetent. Has a soft spot for what he calls “cuddly pets”, which most people would call dangerous beasts.


Prof. Binns

Position: History of Magic.

Details: Only Hogwarts teacher that is a ghost. Looks very grey. Classes are endlessly boring.


Prof. Hooch

Position: Flying teacher/ Quidditch referee

Details: Yellow, hawk-like eyes, short, gray hair.


Prof. Sinistra

Postion: Astronomy. No details known, except that Prof Sinistra is a witch.


Prof. Vector

Position: Arithmacy. No details known, except that Professor Vector is a witch.


Prof. Kettleburn

Position: Care of Magical Creatures Former teacher. Quit because he wanted to spend time with his remaining limbs.


Firenze

Postition: Divination Former teacher.

Details: Remarkable for the fact that he is a centaur.


Prof. Dolores Jane Umbridge

Position:Defence Against The Dark Arts/ Headmistress/ /Hogwarts High Inquisitor/ Ministry Witch

Details: Short and fat, she usually affects a girlish demeanour in a failed attempt to be endearing. Underneath she is a vicious psychopath and megalomaniac.

Prof. Quirrell

Position: Defence Against the Dark Arts

Details: Always wore a turban due to the fact that Lord Voldemort was hiding on the back of his head. Has a stammer in his voice, and is usually pale and nervous. Now deceased.


Prof. Gilderoy Lockhart

Position: Defence Against the Dark Arts/Order of Merlin 3rd class/Celebrity and Author/Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defence League/Five Time of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award

Details: Golden wavy hair, forget-me-not blue eyes, perfect smile. He is obsessed about himself, and his secret ambition is to rid the world of evil and market a line of hair care products. Professes to be an expert on everything, but in reality can do very little except memory charms.


Prof. Remus Lupin

Position:Defence Against the Dark Arts

Details: Brown hair that is beginning to grey, looks ill and lacking in sleep most of the time. This is because he has lycanthropy and turns into a werewolf once a month.


Prof. Alastor Moody

Position: Defence Against the Dark Arts/Auror

Details: Dark grey hair. Has one magical eye that can see through solid objects and see invisible things. Known for being the best Auror the Ministry had, but now a paranoid and trigger-happy recluse.
