Chocolate Frog Cards

Appearance: Small cards with a magical (moving) picture of a Famous Witch or Wizard along with a brief description of his or her importance and accomplishments. One is included with each Chocolate Frog candy.

Function: One part collector's item, one part educational tool.

How to Use: Read, look, collect, enjoy!

Notes: Ron states that he has about five hundred, and only names two cards he doesn't have (Agrippa and Ptolemy), so there must be roughly five hundred different Witches and Wizards on the Chocolate Frog cards.

Trading Chocolate Frog cards is a popular pastime with Hogwarts students. Trading has been seen between Hannah Abbott and Ernie Macmillan, and Harry, Ginny, and Neville. Those searching for or offering a specific card can post on the notice board in Gryffindor's common room (and presumably on notice boards in other House common rooms as well).

The information on the Chocolate Frog cards can come in quite useful, as Harry found out when he eventually realized the identity of Nicolas Flamel in his first year by rereading Dumbledore's card.

Harry compares the pictures on the cards to Muggle photos, so it is assumed that the pictures on the cards are magical photographs rather than portraits.

When Dumbledore's reputation was attacked during Harry's 5th year, he told Bill Weasley that the Ministry of Magic could take any of his positions from him, as long as he was still on a Chocolate Frog card.

Known Famous Witches and Wizards on Chocolate Frog cards:
Agrippa
Circe
Cliodna (druidess)
Albus Dumbledore
Alberic Grunnion
Hengist of Woodcroft
Merlin
Morgana
Paracelsus
Ptolemy
