MuggleNet's Top 15 Moments

Part 1: Moments 15 through 11

Throughout October, MuggleNet is celebrating its 10th birthday with a variety of special features looking at the site and the fandom. Below is Part 1 of our look at the site's Top 15 Moments.

15) MuggleNet's annual April Fools pranks

Lots of websites across the internet enjoy partaking in April Fools Day pranks, and MuggleNet is no different. For several years we've pulled different stunts in an attempt to fool you. From announcing the closure of MuggleNet to wild stories about Trelawney having a drinking problem, we've always had fun coming up with new tricks. (see our 2008 jokes here and our 2009 jokes here).

14) MuggleNet's Chamber of Secrets Forums

One of the oldest and largest Harry Potter forums online, MuggleNet's COS Forums has been a Potter discussion hub for years. The forum launched a couple years after MuggleNet, and is currently run by its own dedicated team.

13) The Wall of Shame

Infamous. Beloved. Shameless. These are a few words that can describe the popularity of MuggleNet's Wall of Shame. Originally started by Emerson to showcase some of the strangest e-mails he's received, the Wall of Shame has turned into a fan favorite thanks to the entertaining e-mails and Emerson's even funnier responses. The Wall of Shame has even been recognized by JK Rowling herself: "[It's] nearly as funny as some of the stuff I get."

12) MuggleNet's Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows book release parties

We at MuggleNet love meeting, interacting, and celebrating everything Potter with our visitors. That's why in 2003, we held a Order of the Phoenix book release party in Chicago. The event was HUGE, and so successful that we did it again in 2005 for Half-Blood Prince and in 2007 for Deathly Hallows. For the latter, we also hosted a party in London which included a live MuggleCast. We're proud to have hosted two release parties on different sides of the globe on one night for the final book.

11) MuggleNet's Fan Fiction section

Our Fan Fiction section has been wildly successful since its launch several years ago. We're proud of the site and its team for being one of the top places to go to on the web for Potter Fan Fiction. Over the years, the site has expanded with such cool features as Audio Fictions (Fan Fictions in audiobook format), contests, and much more. It's so popular, it accounts for 30% of our traffic.
