Afshan Azad (born in 1989) plays Padma Patil in the Harry Potter films.
She got the part when casting agents visited her school;
after several auditions, Azad was chosen for the part. She currently lives in Manchester. She is a Muslim and a second-generation Bangladeshi.
Azad and her co-star Shefali Chowdhury became very close after acting in Goblet of Fire. Seventeen-year-old Azad is also an A-level student studying chemistry, biology, English and media language at Xaverian College and has just taken her AS level exams.
