Goblet of Fire Fan Reviews
By Conrad
Spoiler Warning!
The film starts out very dark like no other Harry Potter movie has. The first scene jumps right to the death of Frank and the whole Riddle House plot. Then just like in the book Harry awakes from the dream with his scar hurting, therefore he doesn't wake up at the Dursley's but at the Weasley's. A few other shots go on, and onto the quidditch world cup, this part actually was done kind of fast but very intense.
The entire quidditch world cup scene lasted about three minutes, with no actual quidditch being played in the scene. While at Hogwarts Harry Potter is mysteriously entered in a triwizard tournament which is a tournament that is about one-hundred years old, and it involves students competing for a prize, and eternal glory. Only students above the age of seventeen are allowed to put their names into the Goblet of Fire, which is what chooses the three champions. (Other schools also compete in this tournament and their entrance is excellent, visual effects wise.)
Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire on the decision night, and he is completely freaked out by this, and this scene I thought was very difficult for Harry because in this one, Dumbledore actually yells at him, and the whole scene itself was excellent. The three champions, and in this case four are: Cedric Diggory, Fleur Delacour, Victor Krum, and of course Harry Potter. The four of them have to go through three different tasks that will test their ability to cope with danger.
The first task is...Dragons. The whole dragon chase I thought was spectacular and it steps visual effects up a notch. The second task is underwater. The champions are to rescue something valuable that is put underwater. This task was the fastest in my opninion, but was still really cool. The third and final task was the best task in the entire movie, in my opinion. It involved finding the triwizard prize in a maze.
This part was the darkest one in the entire movie because it followed the best scene - the final confrontation with Lord Voldemort. Harry is fearful of Voldemort but at the same time he has the courage of facing him, in his first actual duel. I won't give out any other spoilers involving Voldemort, because that will be a scene that I hope, takes your breath away. The ending is slightly sad because there is a death of a main character, but this just hints that the upcoming movies will get darker and scarier.
The film ends with the foreign schools leaving...then there is a shot of the Goblet of Fire spitting out pieces of parchment with the - credits. 5 Things to Look forward to: 1) Harry Potter dancing. 2) The duel between Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter. 3) The three tasks. 4) Harry's cry. (It improved so much since the third film.) 5) Mad-Eye Moody and his magical eye.
