Harry's back, and he's got hormones! Harry Potter 4 is the first of the books which deals with darker subjects and more adult material. It's also twice the length of the previous books, which must have caused the script writers quite a few problems. If they included everything the movie would probably have been at least 5 hours long! In fact at one time they were considering making 2 movies out of it. That may have been a good idea, because the finished version feels like a lot of stuff was cut out just to keep it within a reasonable running time.

As a fan of the books, it was sad to see what a lot of sub plot and detail was left out for the movie, but I do understand that it would have been impossible to keep everything in. However, I think the story suffered because of it. A number of sub plots given importance in the book were totally left out, and a lot of the character storylines were abridged to the point where they became almost irrelevant. And it's not just because I know the book so well, I spoke to people who haven't read the book and the general comment was that it felt like a badly edited version of the movie.

However, having said all that, it's still good fun. I never enjoy the Harry Potter movies as much as I would like too, partly because the books are so good, and partly because I can't stand Rupert Grint, who plays Ron. So my expectations weren't very high, and since Ron doesn't have too much to do, and doesn't spend the whole movie mugging at the camera, he didn't bother me as much as usual. And Hermione is growing up nicely, she's just lovely in this.

As for Harry, he's not amazing, but he's okay, he just about managed to cope with the more demanding emotional requirements in this movie. The action scenes are not abundant, but they are fun. I felt the ending was weak, and not nearly as horrifying as it should have been, but overall I had a good time.
