Goblet of Fire Fan Reviews

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire review by Heather Chamberlain Like most Potter fans I was equally thrilled at the prospect of another film and couldn't wait to see it. Two words can only describe what I felt like when the film ended. Simply Smashing.
I was not a fan of 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' book, and I am one of the few probably who feels like this, but I have to say the film blew me away, capturing my imagination in a way that the previous films have been unable to do. I really felt like that they had captured the spirit of Harry Potter for the first time. Yes, they left a lot out but what they left in was relevant to Harry's journey. Having him watch the whole of the Quidditch World Cup would have been pointless, in my opinion, because he does not learn anything that is relevant to the basic plot of GOF. The only thing that was important in the Quidditch World Cup was the appearance of Victor Krum. It was an easy way to introduce a character that would become of relative importance to Harry's life. They did not have to go any further then that.
I know that most fans are disappointed that Dobby and Winky were not in the film. Again, they are not essential to the overall plot of GOF and I was thankful they were not in it. Yes, they changed it so that Barty Crouch Jnr was there, but does that matter? It made the whole film different from the book; it gave it a new light. I, for one, enjoyed the film. The changes did not bother me, as I managed to look past the book, and see a truly magnificent film that brought to life the journey of Harry Potter.
Another thing that I liked was they way they did the three tasks. The dragon was exciting, the underwater task was enchanting, and the maze was frightening. I quite liked that Harry did not encounter anything in the maze as it led to the mystery as to why he was not being attacked at all, and we know the others were. For me, that led to a deeper suspense in the film then having Harry encounter dark creatures.
I am especially pleased with how the acting was in the film. Dan, Rupert and Emma have improved brilliantly. Dan proved that he can cry (especially after that disastrous attempt in POA), Rupert played Ron well, nailing his jealousy and yet still being comical, and Emma proved that not only can she be a brainiac, but she can also dazzle the likes of Victor Krum and Ron.
Once again the adult actors were excellent, especially Ralph Fiennes, as he did a marvellous job at bringing Voldemort to life. Not only was he scary but he was believable. Kudos to him!
The only small gripe that I had with this film was that they completely ignored the relationship between Harry and Sirius. That is an important part of book 5, and I felt that their characters were not expanded enough to show this relationship. Other then that, the film was brilliant.
I give this film a 9 and a half out of 10. Best Potter yet.
