Okay to start off, Best movie yet! I absolutely loved it. You've heard it tons of times already, but I really truly think they have stepped it up a notch this time! I'm not going to give a scene by scene play by play. I'm just going to give you the run down.
Okay. Now, the movie starts off really fast. He has the dream and before you know it.... they're walking toward the portkey. (which by the way, I loved the camera shot of them silhouetted against the sunrise. It was perfect.) The whole style of hermione giggling, looking around.... when they're walking toward their tent.... the camera angles... the style... It was terrific. Now, I am one of those huge gigantic hp fans, but also understand that they can't have everything in the movies. It's not possible to fit everything in and I'm usually quite understanding about that. I know there have to be huge cuts in a big book like this but, I was very put out when there was no actual game. Oh well.... life goes on. The dark mark was really cool and kinda scary. Crouch jr. seems like he's not only evil, but has a serious mental illness as well, like he's off his hinges, which really played into his character really well. So now they're on the train and harry writes a letter to sirius. I wish I could've seen sirius more in this, because I think the bond between harry and him is important to book 5. And might I say, they did a very good job casting cho. She is very pretty. But I'll get to casting and acting in a miniute.
I loved the entrances for the schools. Although it wasn't in the book, I thought it was really amazing. Beauxbatons... that was hilarious and Durmstrang with the spark sticks, was some wicked stuff. I loved, LOVED, the unforgiveable curses scene. It was all very true to the book with good additions into it as well. It's all funny at first then, when moody gets to "throw itself out a window" part, it really sets the mood of the whole thing. You can just see the seriousness and horror that it caused and the looks on the students faces.... It's .... very true to the book. Neville! You feel so sorry for him! Then hermiones screams and..... you know the story. There is this part after class where there is this glass stained window of a cloaked lady. I love the effect that it looks like she's crying because it's raining outside. I just thought it was a perfect end to a serious scene like that. It was pretty cool. Fred and George are back and are more of themselves.... more like their characters than anyother movie and are pretty funny when they put their names into the cup. And thank god that they are in this movie more than they were in the past ones! I did not like dumbledore this time around that much at all. Throughout the whole movie he seemed like he was confused and frustrated. It seemed like he didn't have the answers and was taking it out on harry. It wasn't his character at all. He got very physical with Harry and got right in his face in the trophy room. But I do have to mention(not that this is relavant) we get a great evil glare from ron. If looks could kill..... Harry and ron's fight is awesome and is so real that you think that they actually were mad at eachother on set one day. Ferret scene is so hilarious and it just makes you love moody more than you did in the book. The dragon was scary. Not to the point were you had to cover your eyes, no. But so scary that even though there are three movies and book left, you still worry for harrys life. The scenes before the yule ball are hilarious and sadly so, so, so true to real life crushes that you find yourself relating to similar cases.
The study session is so funny , that after seeing it many times, I still laugh out loud. The yule ball itself is stunning. The set is "wow me" fantastic and Emma Watson,of course, is gorgeous, even though she already was before the yule ball. Harry can't dance worth crap, which makes it even funnier than heck. The weird "sisters?" . Although not women but a punk band were quite fun and I loved the fact that it shows hermione just having a great time with krum. She's dancing and laughing. She so twitterpaited that when she sits down, it's exactly like the book, a slap in the face to hear Ron say stuff about her date. By the end of it... hermione is in tears and yells " you spoiled everything!" then sits down on the marble stairs and takes off her shoes while ron and harry leave her to cry. It's so sad you want to cry with her and want to make a little hand gesture to ron for being such a jerk. The scene with myrtle was funny and made me so embarassed for harry and quite nervous as well. I loved the mersong that came out of the egg as well. It was so beautiful.
I loved the second task! Harry choking on the gillyweed was really funny and neville freaking out. The special effects where amazing and totally weren't overdone like I thought they would be. The grindylows made my cousin jump and again you are fearing for harrys life. The transition inbetween tasks is faster the second time. Only a few scenes of, Harry stumbling upon crouch dead in the woods, The pensieve, which was fantastic by the way, and you really capture the seriousness of it all, some thing between harry and snape and veritaserum, then the third task. I must say, I was in tears through the whole thing. From the time cedrics dad wishes him good luck to the end of the movie, I was balling! The whole maze part...... I knew what was coming ..... I only wished it wouldn't. I was a little disturbed by Fleurs face when she gets pulled under by some vines. It was very eerie and kinda cool at the same time. The drama when harry and cedric are racing toward the cup and then cedric get pulled under was great. Harry split in two as he decides to turn back and help cedric, was pretty wicked. Then they race together and you don't want to look but you can't look away as the graveyard scene unfolds. Your saying to yourself," run you idiot! get back to the cup!" but you know what happens......
Voldemort was PERFECT! Ralph captured voldemort sooooooo well. I wasn't scared of him but disturbed. His character is sooo out there ......so twisted that it made me nervous. Voldemort touching harrys scar.....OH that was...... just utterly chilling to the bone. you can tell he enjoyed the pleasure of knowing harry was in pain! Priori Incantatem.... Oh man.... when harrys parents came out and started talking to him.......... it puts you into the moment.... the music..... the encouraging voices...... I think that and the next part is when I cried the hardest! It is so compelling that the scene over powers you with emotion and you just can't help but break down. I loved that when they got back that no one noticed anything wrong. Then fleur screams in relization. I didn't like it at all, it was very sad, but to put that into a movie was a very beautiful detail. Then Amos comes down screaming over is sons dead body....... I can't even see the picture clearly because I'm crying so hard! And may I say that dans crying skills are amazing and really help capture the moment of the whole thing. Then theres crouch off his hinges again and really makes me nervous to even watch him. Then theres remember cedric.......More crying......
I loved the ending. LOVED the ending. There was a feeling of hope. A feeling of strong bonds loyalty, basically the backbone of the whole series in the ending. Hermione says her classic line " everything is going to change" and harry comforting her says "yeah". Then they talk about promising to write this summer and they look out at beauxbatons and durmstrang leaving in the sunset. The music set a great feeling of hope like tomorrow is a time for healing. That sort of thing. Okay now the overall technical stuff. THEIR ACTING IS SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER! Not just the trio but ginny, mad-eye, snape.... everybody! Then, you know how in the other movies you get the feeling or thought in your head, "why are those three freinds?" I mean ya sure theres this troll they fought yada yada. But you never really see them being friends. It's always serious buisness and never joking around. IN THIS ONE YOU SEE THE FRIENDSHIP STUFF ALOT! WHICH IS FANTASTIC! I LOVED IT! Just alot of being regular normal human beings, who insult eachother and laugh about it. And just have a good time. Normal things that you would see everyday in school, Like fred (or george) whistling when rons dancing with Mconnagal. And the thing is it's not there to fill in time. It's not there for long stretches or there for the heck of it, it's just there. Tiny little pieces spread throughout the whole movie like sprinkles on ice cream. Just the fact that for once they are being normal teenagers and not robots with lines, is very refreshing.
There is alot of characterization in this movie. You see alot of characters come out of their shells. You see more of Ginny(obviously preparing us for movie 6) and more of Neville. And like I said before, it's not just lines. You actually get character behind it. You get their personality come across so well in this film. Especially with fred and george! I loved them this time around and thought they were hilarious! All in all, best film yet. It's one of those movies you want see again and again. But not just because it is Harry Potter, but because, for just a movie in general, a very great must see.
